does anyone know stats for acceptances into the honors program or merit aid? I know they take top ten percent for the honors program and give top 25% merit aid but does anyone know where test scores and gpa would be for around these percents? i know it differs every year but just a general idea

alli, we went up and sat in on the honors presentation during their big open house a few weeks back…what I understand is that they take the top 15% of the applicant pool and consider them all for honors, but not all get in. I guess the quoted rate is 10%. However what I’m not clear on is what qualifies as top 10% - it isn’t strictly by SATs or GPA, so they must have a formula that they follow. My daughter fell right in the middle of their “middle 50%” as they quoted it (I forget what that was, but she has a 1360/2100 total with a 32 ACT) but I don’t feel overly confident she will get accepted into honors although I hope she will!

Good luck to everyone.

thanks that helps. i have very similar scores to your daughter so best of luck to both of us!

^same here. I’m really hoping I get into the honors college because if I do, I’m gonna go and tour the campus. So does anybody who has visted NEU, know whats it like? Is it really an urban environment feel or is it still like a college campus just in a big city?

^ I had a fantastic time touring NEU. You can read my visit report at [Northeastern University Visit - noimagination](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/vibe/northeastern-university/8366314.html)

To provide a little more detail:
Much of the NEU campus really does feel like a campus, albeit a busy one. The Centennial Common is surrounded by campus buildings that almost enclose it from the city sort of like a wall. Still, you probably wouldn’t mistake NEU for a small-town school. Even when you can’t see the city, there’s an urban vibe in the air.

The northern end of campus is much more urban all around. After you cross Huntington, the city feels closer.

I strongly recommend visiting. Campus wasn’t what I expected, and I was pleased to get a closer look.

Hello! Another NEU hopeful here :] I applied engineering, and and am thinking computer or EE. I visited the campus and LOVED it. Definitely one of my top schools, even though I applied to schools like Tufts, Brown, MIT, etc.

RADtomato, the school is the best of both worlds - a campus setting within a big city. BU doesn’t have the campus feel and BC doesn’t feel city-ish at all. We actually almost didn’t tour Northeastern because the first time we went we couldn’t find parking and it didn’t look appealing. The next time, we had appointments to meet people, so we had to park, and we were so pleasantly surprised! The school became my daughter’s favorite after that visit in August and it’s remained that way despite some visits to highly ranked LACs.

The only thing I want to tell you is that NEU has their own police force - so if you want to be where the cops can’t find you …

;-)

Here’s a campus video tour that will get you psyched: [Northeastern University: College Profile | YOUniversityTV](http://www.youniversitytv.com/colleges/neu)

anyone know when we start hearing decisions from NEU???

Mid to late next week I’d guess

Last year they were released Thursday 12/17 starting at 3:00 pm.

They were released in geographic waves, Mass first then outward.

^I’m in SoCal, so would I receive them a couple hours after the East Coast does or more like a day later?

Did we need to fill out CSS no matter what? I don’t think I qualify for need-based aid so I didn’t fill it out and now I am concerned…

theRADtomato47,

Heard they’ll have ALL EA decisions out by 9:00pm (local)

Stocktrader: Which date?

Another reason to hate living in Arizona I get to watch all the east coasters on CC get their decisions while I rock back and forth nervously and refresh my email every 5 seconds.

(I’m kidding about the rocking back and forth. I think.)

^ It could be worse… I’m from AK.

^I’m sorry bro.
@MirandaKH, lmao.

I think decisions will be released on Dec. 16 (thurs.) or Dec. 17 (fri.) this year [just an educated guess?]. Last year it was on dec. 17th a thursday. So the question is does the day of the week stay the same or does the actual day of the month stay the same, for when decisions are released?
