*Official EA Thread Class of 2016*

I just got into BU ED so even if I get in to NEU I won’t be going. Its unfortunate that BU puts their decisions out for ED so close to NEU’s EA decisions, otherwise I would have withdrawn my application from NEU. Im sure someone would really want my spot (assuming I get in)

Is it easier to get in if you applied EA?

No.

NEU loves to defer people.

bahhhh! Are we sure decisions are going to be released the 15th?? I’m so nervous. I live in North Jersey so hopefully I find out sometime in the afternoon as opposed to sitting up all night refreshing the page…

Someone at my school said NEU was sending out decisions tomorrow, can anyone confirm? I’m really nervous! ahhh! I just want to know!

Blackrose I wish you would stop going around spreading false information.northeastern has a typical 40% acceptance rate. The admissions board isn’t out to defer people. if you are in the top 40% of applicants, or have similar stats/ecs you will most likely get in.

While NEU isn’t as selective as the ivys or duke or stanford or BC or Michigan, it isn’t a cake walk to get in. People are going to get deferred, but people are also going to get accepted.

“When applying to Northeastern University, it’s important to note the application deadline is January 15, and the early action deadline is November 1. Scores for either the ACT or SAT test are due February 15. The application fee at Northeastern University is $70. It is more selective, with an acceptance rate of 37.9 percent and an early acceptance rate of 51.9 percent.”

From the most recent college survey on USNews:
[Northeastern University | Best College | US News](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/northeastern-university-2199)

Also, I’m not entirely sure why you are comparing it to BC and Michigan. BC is only 31%, so not that much lower- certainly no where near the Ivies. And I’m not sure what Michigan you are talking about, but every U of Michigan and Michigan State have higher acceptances than Northeastern…

Bud check the rankings

Umich Ann Arbor, BC, and all the Ivies are in the top 25.

Northeastern is in the 60s, so there is quite a big gap between the set of schools.

And still, you prove my point - 51% EA acceptance rate, meaning there are going to be a whole different 50% getting deferred or rejected.

No college is out to defer people, but they will if you do not fall within their top %.

@rbethell76

Congrats. I wouldn’t worry about someone not getting your spot. Northeastern knows that only a percentage of applicants accepted will enroll and so they have statistically anticipated your decision and made adjustments for it.

rbethell76. Note, there is a difference between admission selectivity and US News rankings. NU is in fact more selective than UMich with a 34.31% overall acceptance rate for 2011. NU SAT average of 1341/2014 I believe is also higher than UMich. Michigan is a fabulous university but their admission selectivity is nowhere near the ivies.

I’ve heard many different things so lets clear this up right now. Are decisions tomorrow, thursday, or later in the month?

Calm down everyone.

Northeastern doesn’t release a decision date. Yes, they’ve had patterns in the past, but none of us know because we have NO affiliation with admissions.

Nothing is “clear”. Relax.

rbethell,

One year NEU accepted a ton of its normal applicants (i’ll hunt down the exact year for you), but then they ended up having more kids than they needed, so they had harder admissions for RD.

The reason I say it’s harder is because I have heard (I have been saying I have heard each time) that they only accept their top applicant for EA.

Yes, people will be accepted, but if you’re just a normal applicant then they might defer you. I learnt this from my very own G.C. so that is what I have been told (Once again, i’m saying this is what i’ve been told).

That is all :)

Statistically, the admission rate has always been higher for EA, but they may also have a better applicant pool than RD. However, if you just go by the raw statistics, EA should be easier.

If they defer you it means that you are borderline and they want to see if you improve your grades or test scores in the meantime to push you over whatever threshold they have set.

what you are saying sounds a bit more like BC than NU

these are just some observation from the past few years.

■■■■■ if the decisions don’t arrive by Thursday now, I’m gonna flip a ****. Haha

Eric, I’m hoping that they’ll be out by Thursday as well. >.<

Bud? Try learning how to read, seeing as my post had NOTHING to do with rankings whereas your post was about selectivity, ALSO not rankings.

You’ve been rude to every person you’ve replied to in this and other threads. For someone who hasn’t even gone to college yet, you sure do act like you know everything about every college on the planet.

All I can say is, thank god you’re going to BU.

Can any of you guys chance me for Northeastern through EA? I’ll chance back if needed.
