No matter how good scores are…there’s always that chance…

10PM sounds good to me…

keeping those fingers crossed.

@x0julie: did you find out through financial aid updates or did your “application under review” change to “accepted/approved”?

I’m a Hispanic applicant.

I received a 33 on my ACT.

35 - Reading
34 - English
31 - Science
30 - Math

I am in the top 4% of my class.

I’m hoping that my test scores and my transcript will compliment each other because my test scores are just about the opposite of my grades in school. I’m maintaining a perfect score in Calculus AB AP this year (and I was one point off from this in Algebra II and Pre-Cal), but as you can see it was my lowest scoring section on the ACT. The SAT just wasn’t my test, and I regret sending those scores and subjects tests in now that I’ve seen the scores of other applicants. I recall having read that Rice will use whichever test puts the applicant in a better light, so I have been banking on that concept.

How did the essay writing go for all of you?

i got a 32 on the ACT and a 2170 on SAT.
…my SAT II scores were completely horrible though. Wayyyyy below Rice avg. :(

The essay writing went well for me, I think. On the first essay I wrote about Atticus Finch (TKAM) and how inspirational he was. And my second essay was about moving to America and going back to visit…I had two AP English teachers look over mine.

i think that my essays are one of the strongest points on my application

I did see a link to a financial aid letter before the official status update, but we (last year’s ED applicants on CC) only speculated that it was an indication of acceptance. I remember a separate window popping up when I logged onto Esther to find out my admission notification. It said something along the lines of “Your application has been approved.”

Yeah, I feel the same. And I think I used the “2-D dimensional, scan able object” thing to the best advantage I could.

and what’s the “avg” Rice sat scores? i got a 2270 (800 writing, 770 math, 700 reading)…is that good enough for rice? i know my critical reading is kinda low…but my sat IIs make up for it, i hope!! but it looks like so many applicants have 2300+ scores. gahhh

and i kno, i kno, scores aren’t everything :P

and thanks for the response x0julie - i’ll be watching out for a random box to pop out telling me (hopefully) of an acceptance

most people DO NOT have 2300+ scores…CC is just filled with a lot of high achieving individuals that it appears daunting

people on CC are a SMALL sample compared to the rest of the applicant pool

i dont think it will come tonight-like julie said they found out financial status before 10pm, and then the actual status at 10. we havnt even found out FA statuses yet!

hold on a sec - I thought that Rice students (and Rice applicants, by default) wouldn’t be the type to shove their scores prior to decisions in everyone’s faces… it’s not very nice to show off when some people on this board are worried about their scores - am I right or no???

I don’t see it as “showing off” scores. It’s more of getting a feel for the people your competing for admission against?

I felt really good about my supplement essay, and the AP English teacher I got to proofread it for me really enjoyed it. I don’t know how my common app essay went over (I did the “write about an issue” topic). I tried to let my personality shine through it since it was my opinion in the first place, but I didn’t get to have it proofread as intensively as my supplement.

@RaeBanging
theoretically speaking, this small sample of applicants could be just the type of people rice doesn’t want, a bunch of show-offs, and will not be rice students.

Just kidding!!
I am sure nobody meant to “show-off”, and we are all just nervous and looking for something to occupy the time.
