Official Ed Decisions!

You have a 1600. You are ranked #1. That helps.

sigh sorry

Congrats, ilovemath! Way to go! '09...

skatinsunshine05--lemme guess; you go to tjhsst? I'll see you at Princeton!

I'm also wondering what happened to Dizzyson. Do you think Dizzymom is passed out on the floor somewhere? I'm worried about her!

WHOA c_j! First of all, congrats on the Princeton acceptance! You sound like you'd be an awesome addition (imo, of course). I'm also completely astonished by the fact that you worked with Dave Eggers. I had this period of time when I was completely obsessed with his book Heartbreaking Tale of Staggering Genius. I mean, it was amazing!! which is why your essays are probably just as amazing. But, anyway, yeah, I just wanted to point out that I am stunned :) I'm actually applying to Pton RD, so I'm going to PM you with my email address, so that I can take a look at your essays, if you don't mind :)

ACCEPTED!!!!

oh man, i can barely believe it~~~~~

Dizzymom is on the phone with the computer repair-guy right now...

We haven't heard, which makes me think we are deferred. The only other possibility is where we live, which is sort of funny in terms of mail.

A bad time to have the computers go down...

Congrats to all...

Condolences to all...

zant,

"I honestly believe that Princeton is taking the people with lower scores now and saving the higher stat people for later. Is it true that they want to up their stats in the RD round?"

why do u think so?

PW - How are you holding up? When will you hear?

i dont know! im worried! i thot i'd get fedex today.. but i didnt.. hopefully tomorrow.. but i dont expect much after seeing the results.....

gosh.. this is really depressing.....

congrats olivia! Way cool.

PW,
Just going off what ilcapo said, that they want to boost their stats regular. But I think I'm just lying to myself. Whatever.

Zant -

I talked to my guidance counselor, and some admissions guy. He said they often take the EC 1's (i think thats the scale) and hold off on the academic 1's, because it is easy for them to balance. For example, they took someone with a 1300 this round, and he is attending, so they will average him with all the other applicants, and judge where the pool lies. If the SAT average is 1420 in ED, they will NEED to take 1580's in order to boost the average. I believe the same is true for rank, my acceptance clearly brings down that number of "top 10%" students, so they will be unable to take more risks in the RD round, relying on the valedictorians and others.

Hope that helped....and realize that there is a whole other round, and a whole other chance for acceptance.

thanks phlin- congrats to you too!

lol, my mom came in and was like "hmm... would you say that this was a small envelope or a big envelope?"

...that was the start of the freak out

I hate you all. This makes me sick.

No, you know I don't mean that. I just had to say it.

I haven't written in a year or so, but since I do college stuff full time now helping kids, I'd thought I'd throw in a few words. Princeton was BRUTAL this year so Zante, don't feel bad! Part of the problem is that Princeton gets so many kids from NJ and surrounding area that they coudl fill the class 10 times over with only NJ kids and they won't do that! With numbers like yours Zante (and the many other stellar all 800 kids who were deferred from Princeton), take heart -- you WILL get into a top college. Make sure you application reflects your intellect. No use having all those numbers if you don't SHOW a love of learning. I've been looking over the apps of a few kids who got turned down from Princeton and other top colleges and sometimes the brightest kids are the ones who don't take the time to really flesh out their academic passions. Just being a good test taker is NOT enough -- show your passion for learning!

Thanks, aisforadmission. It's comforting to know this was a hard year for Princeton. I definitely tried to focus on my passion for history and writing as one of my essays, but I still was deferred. After I send in some additional supplements over break, here's to hoping for RD success!

Why do you think you got deferred/admitted:
I don't think there were many first generation, asian captains of the football team applying. Living in 4 different countries, Texas, and Washington during my life didn't hurt either.

I feel likea fraud for getting in. My stats were lower, my LOCATION was a hook (which is kind of whack to think about it), and i really dont have special qualities that should have gotten me into princeton. :(, i hope i dont feel like this at Princeton....

CONGRATUALTIONS SCHWABY! Charles Schwab <--- I bet you get ALOT of these jokes.

you're not a "fraud" hobbes, that's such a ridiculous thing to think. be HAPPY you got into princeton, and don't worry - i'm sure you'll be able to hold your own with anyone there.
