Official Ed Decisions!

We DO need all the help we can get....at one point (i.e. pre-deferral), I loved Princeton in a large part because it is so unique...now I'm wishing there were places just like it. :/

Decision: ACCEPTED!!

Congrats Gianievve!!!

GIANI!!! CONGRATS!!! :)

EDIT: Thats pretty late for an acceptance (glimmering hope for me!). Which part of the world are you in again? (UK?)

She's in Wales! Yes, Gianievve, congrats!!!!!

Decision: Deferred :(

[] Other stats: nothing major, except for a 99V/91M (=1540) on the AAT and a 99 each in english and computer science AAT Subject test*
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: quite long but great otherwise (simple language)
[] Teacher Recs: excellent (incl. best in career rating)
[] Counselor Rec: mediocre (school policy to mark everyone "above avg")
[] Hook (if any): self-taugh musician (sent cd), midi sequencer (professional level), lots of programming n stuff (national and intl awards et al)
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: India
[] School Type: Private
[] Ethnicity: Asian (Indian)
[] Gender: Male
[] Degree(AB/BSE): BSE (Comp.Engg., cert in AI & Robotics)
[] major strength/weakness: Strength - see hooks, weakness - crap scores
[/ul]Other Factors: I think the counselor rec and sat scores were the only factors holding me back... coz everything else was great IMHO

so the dream is now shattered. time to work on other apps...

Academic Aptitude Test, its like the SAT I and II but is tougher (for students in indian education system)

*not in Wales, but close.

Sorry Mercury - I loved your posts about Jennifer Anistons from waitresses and such :).

Hello all! This is my first post here--I'm here to meet some of the people in Princeton Class of '09 because I just got accepted Early Decision. So, being in Rome, I shall do as the Romans only without the fancy formatting:

Decision: Accepted

Stats:
SAT: 740 M/800 V
SAT II: 800 Biology (Molecular emphasis), 800 Writing, 800 Math IIC
GPA: 4.2
Rank: top 15%--I'm not sure how precisely my school reports class rank
Other Stats: National Merit Semi-Finalist; AP Scholar with Distinction

Subjective:
Essays: Kinda lame. But I am hypercritical and abhor soul-searching self-revelatory writing, so I hate them on principle rather than because they are inherently bad.
Teacher Recs: Awesome. I love my teachers and they are much better at talking about me than I am.
Counselor Rec: Quite good I think.
Hook: Parents went there. I hate this fact.

Location/Personal:
State or Country: California
School Type: Private
Ethnicity: Anathema (AKA didn't check the box)
Gender: Female
Degree: AB (math or maybe an interdisciplinary major, possibly a certificate in linguistics or intelligent systems)
Major Strength/Weakness: Strength--psychotically obsessed with learning; Weakness: Class rank/GPA (my school is competitive to the point at which GPA ceases to be a good indicator of desire/capacity to learn)

Other Factors: I think I'm the only one from my school who applied early to Princeton.

So yeah, it has been my policy to refrain as far as possible from obsessing until I know where I'm going. Now I know, and therefore I am amenable to discussion of Princeton. The only thorn in my side is that I wish my parents had not gone there. Until September I didn't want to go to Princeton because of that and preferred Yale, but (being real with myself) Princeton has much better math, physics, and philosophy departments, and those are basically the things I want to do. So I applied there. And that is my story.

*Decision: DEFERRED * :(

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT:1510 (M760, V750)
[] SAT IIs: 800, 790, 780
[] GPA: 4.0 Unweighted
[] Rank: Unranked; est. 1%
[] Other stats: IB diploma, IB French:6, bunch of math/science awards, 7th in provincial essay contest, bunch of top/outstanding student awards.
[/ul][ b]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: In hindsight, one good, one average, one self-aggrandizing and moronic
[] Teacher Recs: one excellent, one dunno
[] Counselor Rec: didn't see, no idea how good
[] Hook (if any): Art. Sent in art portfolio, wrote essay on it, etc. Gallery shows, good ref. letter.
[] Major ECs:ART, peer counselling, community, webteam, magazine chief editor, youth philosopher's cafe founder, debater, karate bronze medalist.
[] AB/BSE: AB
[] Strenth/Weakness: I'm really well rounded, but I'm from Canada, which prob. works against me. I think one of my short essays sucked in hindsight, and I applied for financial aid (prob. not good idea since I'm international).
[/ul][ b]Location/Person:
[ul]
[] State or Country:BC, Canada
[] School Type:Public
[] Ethnicity:Asian
[] Gender:Male
[/ul][ b]Other Factors:**
[*] Why do you think you got deferred/admitted: Well, it seems like Princeton's not taking many art people this year. Art seems to not be a hook there anymore. Neither is IB diploma, so there goes the only two cards I held. My crappy essay probably cancelled out my good one, and applying internationally, being Asian, and not having any good hooks probably killed me.

I've already told her in three different places, but I'll say it again.

CONGRATS GIANIEVVE! :)

I'm so proud of you, gian!

And FZero, don't worry too much. I got deferred and my hook was art, too. I was talking to a friend (a freshmen @ Princeton) about it and he said he knows quite a few people who were admitted after deferrals. Your stats are very good, so you're still in the running :)

Kebree, I've seen your stuff and IT IS AWESOME! There's not an art institute in the world that would not accept you! I've shown a few other people your work and everyone agrees that it's completely Princeton's loss not to take you right now. I was simply stunned at your oil and watercolour pieces. Being an artist myself I know how difficult that is to do. It really does seem like pton's not valuing art nearly as much as people thought they would though... Darn... Good luck next round!

kebree - you will be one of those that are admitted after deferral. i hope both of you kats are. praying for you two =P u have definitely made princeton board much more special and belong at princeton!

hear hear! go kats! supa-cats. Thunda-cats. Or just the musical Cats. Anyway you put it, they're wawawawesome! :)

Decision: Deferred

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 1460 <760 (M) 700 (V)
[] SAT IIs:790 (Math IIC), 770 (Physics), 700(Writing)
[] GPA: n/a
[] Rank: 3/~420
[] Other stats:
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Pretty OK i guess
[] Teacher Recs: 2 of them were outstanding, i didnt get to see the other two (YES i sent four)
[] Counselor Rec: Outstanding
[] Hook (if any): NONE
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Oman
[] School Type:Very large Private/ Community School
[] Ethnicity:Asian (Indian)
[li] Gender:Male[/li][/ul]Other Factors:
i'm not really into any sport.. so my ECs have almost no sports.. maybe it factored in my deferral

why is it not working n why is that smilie out there? bah... such a bad start to my winter vacations....

You have to remove the space before each [ . :)

thanx genie

Rm, sorry to hear of your deferral. Keep your hopes up for the RD round!

Thanks, phil + shrek. Kat2 - I still can't believe you weren't admitted; it's quite shocking. They made a big mistake with your decision - but thank goodness it's not too late for them to remedy the situation!

On a matter of more immediate importance, I have never seen Cats. What is it about (I'd assume cats, but you never know... could be about rabid squirrels) and am I just incredibly dumb for never having seen it?

Anyone else really excited for the Phantom of the Opera movie coming out? I've seen the musical like four times and am going to see it again this winter - I love love love Phantom!

i dont get it seriously... very few intls who used to post regularly on CC got in..( btw.. i used to lurk a lot arnd here!)
