Congratulations to all for their acceptances! GVA mom, I just read your post… my daughter also just got accepted to the class of 2017. We are Swiss also but live in the US and hold dual citizenship. Judging from your screen name you are from Geneva… I went to school and lived in Canton de Vaud for seven years. Looking forward to meeting you and your son. Maybe the two of them can connect on the Facebook site for accepted students.

This may sound like a dumb question, but how do you send in the deposit? Do you just mail a check to them?

@glasstourist – if you are in the US, that is the easiest. I would suggest that you send it with proof of delivery since the deadline is received by the 20th. For International students they sent a wire routing number as well and suggested that you fax proof as well.

@swatmom17 my son goes to the International School of Geneva in Founex, so the Vaud connection is there as well. I am sure that they will meet up, he should be on FB tomorrow.

sirlaithsalot,

I don’t really have any tips. My child emailed his admissions counselor and he was advised to inform the office if he had any additional achievements since sending in his application. I also read somewhere that it would help to send admissions a letter convincing them why he should be accepted. My son is not the type to do that. He also did not have any additional achievements to speak of. So he basically did nothing.

Have you tried to contact your Swat admissions officer just to ask his/her advice? Be brief but sincere about it. (These admissions people are very busy at this time of the year and they would probably appreciate a short, concise [but polite and sincere] message.)

Also, it is VERY important that you keep your GPA up. They want to make sure that you can keep up with the rigor of the academics at Swat.

I have a strong feeling of “now what?” We have all been working towards this moment for four years, and now the whole college search is over. Does anyone else feel this way? Don’t get me wrong, I am incredibly happy and overjoyed! But it still feels a little strange not having to worry about it at all.

Very normal feeling IMO. I think it speaks well to the sacrifices you have made. Parent…

Isaiahstock, my daughter is feeling the same way so you are not alone… it will take a while to digest this new reality!! gvamom, I’m very familiar with Ecolint… I went to St George’s school in Montreux and we played them in sports. What a small world…

Son plays basketball so he also knows St. George’s. Funny, he said the same thing when I told him about St. George’s!

Good luck to all for a relaxed and calm remainder of your senior year, which is well earned!

Does anyone who was accepted ED know when the admitted student visit days are? Thanks!

hi! first off, congrats to everyone who got in! i’m applying rd and i had the same question as musicmad20. can anyone post their stats? just an overview so i sort of know where i’m at. it’ll be very much appreciated!!

@musicmad20 and @lalalove7
I feel awkward posting stats here but as a general overview my SAT was 2260 and I’ve had roughly a 4.8 GPA for four years. I feel like my letters of rec were solid but nothing flashy. I think the most important things were my community involvement, organizing, volunteering, and activism which go well with the school’s values. I’ve also been on the school newspaper for four years and editor in chief for two. Commitment maybe?
Who knows why I was chosen over so many qualified applicants.
Best of luck to you both!

I will second intparent’s question - with a daughter who applied RD and has a lot of spring activities, it would be good to know when the accepted student days are if she should be admitted (we know that it is big IF). Did the acceptance letters include any info about Ride the Tide? Last year it was April 19-20.

Yes, the reason I asked is because D got into U of Chicago EA yesterday. She wants to commit to an accepted students weekend there, but they have a couple of options. In case she is lucky enough to get into Swat RD, she wants to keep the Swat date open. There is no info on this that I can find on the Swat website.

There was nothing about the Ride the Tide weekend in the ED letters. Your best bet would be to check with Admissions.

I just have a couple more questions…
First, are we going to get any sort of confirmation that our deposit has been received by admissions?
And second, how does one go about withdrawing their applications from other schools?
Thanks :)

Anybody applying ED II to Swarthmore?
How many people normally apply ED II anyway, and does the admission rate fluctuate between ED I and II?

According to the admissions Office, they will send an email to the admitted student once they receive the deposit. As far as withdrawing the applications, normally your College Counselor should be able to help you and may actually want to be involved since they had to sign that they knew you were applying to a binding school. But just in case you don’t have one for some reason, I would send a letter to each of the Admissions Offices (or an email if you are less formal) advising them that you have received a binding Early Decision Admittance (up to you if you name the school, but I am sure that the other admissions offices would be interested), and that you would like to withdraw your application for admittance to their school, thanking them for their consideration.

collegeconscious,
If I remember correctly, the Swat Dean of Admissions recently gave out those statistics. EDI acceptance rate ~33%, whereas the EDII acceptance rate is ~20%.

@ chookie
thank you so much!
