[] Ethnicity: Chinese American
[] Gender: Female

[/ul]Other Factors:Has been on Sci Oly since 8th grade, won some regional + state awards. On Key Club board, maintain website and maintain website for another friend's club.

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I don't know whether I should reapply to CMU, and this time try for CIT and somehow double major in CS...I really don't know. advice?

I actually feel very stupid compared to all of you but either way i was accepted maybe more through EC than through general stats.

OtherFactors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
Congradulations to all the people that were accepted. IM me at AZNPRIDE62388 if you want to start networking. CMU baby!! WOOT! =)

Decision: Rejected from CIT

Stats:
SAT I: 500 V 580 M 540 W
SAT IIs: 570 IC 480 Physics 460 Chem
ACT: N/A
GPA: 3.65 (my school doesn't weight courses through GPA)
Rank: 11/74
Other stats: was accepted into their pre-college program but couldn't attend because of my dad's illness and current financial problems...had been wanting to go there for 7 years....I packed my schedule this year with Honors Gov't, Honors Economics, Honors Psychology, Honors Sociology, Honors Intermediate Computer Programming, Religion IV, Honors Advanced Biology, AP World Literature, Philosophy(elective), Honors Calculus.

Subjective:
Essays: my essay was very meaningful...it was about my dad being diagnosed with colon and liver cancer this past summer
Teacher Recs: came from a CMU alumni...my AP english teacher grad there in 1996 i think
Counselor Rec: good
Hook (if any): thinking cause i was female it would make up for my SAT scores but guess not....also had family almuni there...my uncle attended there and is currently receiving his masters from there

Location/Person:
State or Country: 45 minutes outside Pittsburgh
School Type: Parochial
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: had strong leadership in my school...Homeroom Representative in 11th grade, Student Ambassador of my school in 11th grade(which position is given by being nominated by a teacher), NHS secretary 12th, Track and Field 9th-11th, Cheerleading 9th-11th, Spring Musical 10th, Christmas Plays 10th-12th, French Club 9, Yearbook 11th, Newspaper 10th, Student Anchor for Morning News 10th, Young Hands(Volunteer Service Club) 11th, Key Club 9th...I work all the time at an Internet Service Provider in their call center, about 28hrs/wk. I'm also the only senior this year to be taking 6 Honors/AP courses, and have also gotten college credits from Univ of Pittsburgh for Introduction to Java Programming course.
Previously worked at a Pool Store selling pool supplies at 21hrs/wk
Weakness: SAT scores mainly...and my school doesn't offer like any AP courses. The only AP course they offer is AP English and I took it last year and am currently in it now. I pretty much exhausted their curriculum.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Weak SAT scores?...Admissions are all about numbers from what I heard, so that is probably it, but I am currently making a student connection with a senior at the Tepper School of Business and he had the same SAT scores as me so who knows. He made me feel a lot better from that, and caused me to destroy my plans of burning down Collegeboard lol

Other Factors: I was in the top 10% of my class in 9th grade, and I also was nominated for a scholarship by my Computer teacher to receive the Information Technology Award from Xerox.

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I'm trying to get into EDII for Tepper School but now Univ of Rochester wants me to apply ED for them so I have no idea what to do. I really am stressed from all of this. I have no idea where to go now since I've been striving for this like half my life, but I guess I'll figure something out.

Still haven't gotten my letter, but on the "Where Am I in the Process?" site it now says:

College Choices
1. College:
CFA Dept: DES Program: Decision: Accept

[/quote]

Decision: Accepted to CFA (Design)

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT I: 800V/700M (Old), 690V/700M/800W (New)
[] SAT IIs: 800 Math IIc, 780 Physics, 750 Lit
[] ACT: Didn't take
[] GPA: 4.45 W, 3.72ish UW
[] Rank: 1/475
[] Other stats: 5 on AP Physics B, IB program with 7 on Physics SL and 5 Foreign Language SL (out of 7)
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: common one was horrible, but the school-specific one really good (explained why I want to do design over art, the reason being my personal diversity, which is necessary for design)
[] Teacher Recs: probably really good; I've had all three teachers for at least two years for both honors classes and AP/IB
[] Counselor Rec: very good; she is the IB counselor and loves us IB kids
[] Hook (if any): I am part of my school's first graduating IB class, since this is the first time they have offered it, so I have been one of my school's five guinea pigs. Not only is it tough to pioneer a new program (definitely an adversity I've had to overcome), but it also means that all the teachers and the IB counselor love me, so that's why I'm convinced my recommendations rocked. Also, I did Pre-College and was already told at our final evaluation that during my time there I displayed what they were looking for and they encouraged me to apply. In addition, I was born in the Netherlands and grew up in Europe and will be the first person in my entire family to go to college in the US.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Texas, USA (but I was born in the Netherlands)
[] School Type: Public (2000 students)
[] Ethnicity: Half-white, half-Asian
[] Gender: Female
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: My academics are probably better than you need to get into Design, but I wasn't really sure about how they'd take my portfolio; because of IB Art it's very diversified media-wise, which isn't a bad thing necessarily, but I wasn't sure if I'd done as much straight sketching/drawing as they seemed to want. But apparently that didn't bother them.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: All the reasons mentioned above and basically just a LOT of luck!!!
[/ul]Other Factors: Rocking extra-curriculars. I spend my whole life at school doing various things, from Art Club (president 2 years) to Lit Mag (editor-in-chief 3 years) to Business Professionals of America (civil chairperson 3 years) to International Club (co-founder and Vice-President) to Technical Theater (publicity, set painting, lights, sound, props). Mu Alpha Theta, Academic Decathlon, lots of academic competitions, etc.

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: The past few days have been some of the scariest of my life. I was really beginning to think I wasn't going to get in! One Pre-College Design friend got rejected and one got deferred, and another Pre-College friend got rejected from Tepper. Two of my best friends from my school got rejected from Princeton and Northwestern, and my boyfriend got rejected from Rice. So I am the first out of all the people I know personally to get good news! It was such a surprise! And a big relief! As far as I'm concerned I'm pretty much done with high school. CMU 2010, here I come!!!

Xiehan, congrats!! i was sure that you were going to make it!
courtney, i am so sorry for you. but good luck with your applications. im sure other schools are surely as great as CMU is.

Decision: Accepted to MCS

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT I:760 Math, 770 Verbal, 730 Writing
[] SAT IIs: 710 MathII-C, 700 Physics
[] ACT
[] GPA: ~3.6 unweighted
[] Rank: School doesn't rank, but probably top 15 in a class of 250
[] Other stats: 4 on AP US History exam last year, taking BC Calc, AP Stats, and AP Chem this year
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Pretty good, wrote about Arrested Development
[] Teacher Recs: Great
[] Counselor Rec: Great
[] Hook (if any): Nothing, really. I'm a white guy who likes science. Not very unusual.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: MA
[] School Type: Private, Catholic
[] Ethnicity: Jewish
[] Gender: M
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: My extracurriculars probably would be a little weak (My only sport is cross-country, etc), but I started a monopoly club at my school, and the admissions officer who interviewed me during the SBW seemed to really like that. My SAT 2's were a little weak, but not especially.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I picked the easiest school to get into
[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: WHOOOOOO. I guess posting your screen name is the cool thing to do in this section, so I'm EMoney624. Yankees fans, stay away (but not really)

Hey! I don't think MCS is the easiest...

Anyway, yay! Another jew!
