I get deferred.
Good luck to anyone else!

Accepted! Will post stats later :)

ACCEPTED!!! can’t wait to meet you guys :D

Any other admits having trouble getting to the form on the website? For me it says: This page is restricted to the Amherst College community or groups within the community. If you are logged in and still cannot view the content, this page may be restricted to a specific group due to privacy or copyright concerns.

Now I’m scared they sent me the wrong email :)

Yeah, no worries. Same thing is happening to me. I just withdrew my applications to UChicago and Michigan, so it would seriously blow if it turns out they sent the wrong emails…

(But I’m not going to worry about that for now)

What does Amherst defer mean? I’m still competitive in RD? Or just a kind of consolation prize given to most of the applicants who don’t get in?

Yeah I’m with you guys on the link error. They did say that they would send us the same form in the mail soon, so I wouldn’t really worry about it.

SophiaW I would think you are still competitive in the applicant pool. I considered myself a competitive applicant and got rejected flat out so good luck.

Sophia… do not fold on this. If they said “defer”, consider it for what it is. This is a “no harm, no foul” scenario. Continue with the dream and go forward. This is not the time to second guess. Get your “plan B” in place but do not give up.

I’m really sorry for you Squire.
Thank you kurtataltos. You’re right I should get plan B but do not give up.

Rejected. No further comments other than this is both a blessing and curse.

i was deferred congrats to all of you who got in. I guess Im going to see how it plays out but i know god has his plans for me and i all i can do is enjoy the ride

i was rej-ed… gd lk to evryone who got in or was def-ed…

To lollyrock: I made a mistake, too.

btw, to people who were deferred, plz post outcome + stats in the future… just curious =)

Has anyone gotten the physical copy of their financial aid info in the mail yet?

Waffletown, seeing how it’s just an estimate, I don’t see any reason for them to send a physical copy of it in the mail. They definitely will send one in April, however. That will be the actual statement, not merely an estimate.

I was told that the deposit waiver form would be sent via US Mail along with the financial aid estimate

The only FA notification info I heard was that FA information would follow acceptance by “about a week”.

The three abiguous points all stuffed into one sentence are “FA infomation” (degree of specific content ?), “would follow” (electronic or hardcopy tbd) in “about a week” (7… 9, 11 days?).

It would appear that “something” happens in the next 5-6 days. That’s only my guess. The school needs to provide reasonable specifics, albeit “ballpark”, in case there is a significant hardship situation that may affect a students ability to attend, giving that individual time to seek another venue if the Amherst situation just won’t/can’t financially work (a situation absolutely no one wants…).

In the big picture, the school has done this process thousands of times and for most of us it the first. They know what they are doing and also know there is a degree of anticipation going forward by studends and parents. The acceptance hurdle is over for most, this will work out and (hopefully) we can go forward at the beginning of the new year with a clear understanding. I think this ambiguity is inherent with the ED process but… again… I am no expert…

I’m not sure if you’ll get a hardcopy of your preliminary financial aid award in the mail --this is how they did it a when my son was accepted ED a few years ago, but they may have switched to putting it online-- but one way or the other, you will get a very specific breakdown of the cost of attendance (tuition, books, room&board, travel, personal expenses) and a breakdown of how those costs are paid (parent contribution, student contribution from summer earnings, grants, workstudy for those that qualify, etc.)

It will be very specific, but it is preliminary. After your family’s 2010 taxes are done and any other financial info for the year settles and is verified by the required documentation, you’ll get a final offer in the spring.

Our final offer was extremely close to our preliminary offer, so if your estimates were good you shouldn’t have any surprises with the final offer.

In our case, it took 8 or 9 days, if I recall, for the aid award to come after the acceptance letter, but this was a few years ago and we live on the west coast so the delivery time was a bit longer than for many others.
