***Official Emory ED1 Class of 2018 Results Thread***

Emorydad, the mail says “Congratulations”?

Fordham FA accidentally emailed today to those accepted before its stated announcement date(Friday) and a few hours later the admissions confirmed that. The mail begins with “Congratulations once again on your admission”

Yeah it does seem like there are a lot of recruits I’m a recruit for track… Emory dad I didn’t apply for financial aid that’s probably why I didn’t receive an email like that

Just wanted to wish you all good luck! My son is a sophomore at Emory. He got in ED1 two years ago. His decision was released at 7 PM on opus as promised and not a minute sooner.

@coco4721- The email implied nothing of the sort, that the recipient had been accepted. Perhaps it was a mistake on Emory’s part- I dearly hope it was- but I don’t think there is any evidence to suggest that.

freaking out right now…

I am from a small city in China…and I apply to both college ED1…I am nervous right now…All good luck

I have a higher level maths IB mid term on monday, and this countdown is distracting me crazily (not that i’m bad at academics, but IB maths hl is worse than walking on crushed glass barefeet).

And then you come to Emory…and take some of the chemistry exams.

It did not say accepted in the email. Curious only why they would bother assigning people before a decision has even been made. I do have another child that attends Emory now but no email was sent like this. I hope that you all are able to get in and best of luck.

@bernie12 , well I’ll be majoring in business so I guess I’m fortunate haha (that is, IF I get in).

Btw, does anyone know what the system for being rescinded is in Emory? I’m an IB Diploma Candidate and have 3 HL courses and 3 SL Courses. I score around a 32-39 out of 42 points, but I haven’t been studying for my mid terms too much (slacked off) so I’m predicting somewhere in the lower 30s. My school doesn’t give out grades, only points.

Is admission in Emory contingent in any way? I’ve heard people say Emory (and other colleges too) usually don’t use the IB scores and they don’t matter in your admission (only for college credit), but I’m still unsure. Do I have to score a minimum number of points or something after I get accepted to prevent getting rescinded?

@hizzledrizzle- From my understanding- which is admittely limited on this topic- Emory will only rescind your acceptance if your grades drastically decrease; that is, from, say, an A average to a C average for the semester. If IB scores are similar to AP scores, they aren’t published until July, meaning that Emory cannot view them until then at the earliest. They have no bearing on your admission.

Hope to join you in the business school!

@swapilot IB is like AP in terms of scores coming out in July. Does that mean they don’t decide my admission and I don’t have to worry about getting rescinding?

@hizzledrizzle- Correct, test results released in July will not impact your admission. It is your perogative to release those scores to the university in the first place, and they will only be taken for credit if applicable.

The final thing that has bearing on admission would be your final transcript from your school- and again, hardly so in reality.

@swapilot- So right now I’m in the middle of my mid terms. If let’s suppose I get in Emory, does that mean I can slack off from my mid terms a bit?

EmoryDad

Track coaches do have some pull in D3 because they can tell admissions who they want to have on the team but the decision ultimately comes from admissions. Also, not every recruit that applies gets in, but a majority of them do. By the way, I’m only speaking for track and field because it’s the sport I do. I was track recruit last year (currently a frosh) and I was deciding between Emory and a few other D3 and D1 schools so I have some experience on this.

@hizzledrizzle- I tend to avoid the term “slack off,” because it implies barely skating by, just passing the class, which is certainly not the type of student Emory wants to accept. But I wouldn’t be concerned if you don’t ace all of your finals.

Personally, this year has provided me the chance to learn without focusing so much on the grade I recieve. I think this is a better way to approach your finals, rather than granting yourself permission to “slack off.”

@swapilot Yeah I probably won’t ‘slack off’ to the extent where my performance plummets. But it’ll definitely decrease the immense pressure IB has on me at the moment.

How much does my final transcript affect the admission? Just like the July IB scores I assume?

@flyeagle17

what were your GPA/SAT or ACT?

Is it a bad sign if i didn’t receive an email from the financial office? seems like a lot of people received that email. I applied for financial aid, but didn’t get an email.

@sang7239- It could be an indication that you have not submitted all materials required to recieve an estimate with your letter. You might check OPUS to confirm that the flinancial aid office has everything.
