Does anyone now how many kids were actually deferred? School says it is a very small percentage, only kids that would actually stand a chance in the regular selection pool, but no real statistics. 2 deferred in our school, and I am told this is unusual, but I don’t really know whether this is true or not.

[ *] Strengths: Hard worker, rigorous course loud, very good at writing, my teachers regard me very highly and I’m known for working incredibly hard, so I’m sure they included that in their letters of recommendation. (I’m also Jewish… don’t know if that helped)
[ *] Weaknesses: not great test scores, but I think they could look past that with my essay and extracurriculars.
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: My essay. Before people read it and they just saw my GPA and test scores, they weren’t 100% sure I would be able to get in. Once they read my essay, they said that any college would be blown away.

You applied early decision and were not that interested (according to your own words). That’s probably why to be honest. Also, if you mentioned neuroscience, apparently that have a Hum/Soc. Sci bias this year, trying to add some academic diversity. You should get plenty of offers from the others though.
