Official Emory Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

Hi everyone! I just wanted to start the thread. Hope everyone comes here so we can share our stats and anxieties!

Is NO ONE planning on transferring to Emory?!

I’m applying to Emory for fall transfer! I go to a large state school. Are you a Georgia resident?

Yes I am! Are you?

I’m applying too. Ga state student currently. 4.12 gpa
But bad hgh school test scores. Why does that even matter?

I honestly don’t think it matters that much.

Shall we post out stats? The deadline for the application is coming up soon!

College GPA: 3.82
Major: Education

I plan on applying.

ECs: Very plain with few leadership roles in high school. I have joined 2-3 clubs in high school, but nothing special.

I applied last year, but I was waitlisted. Hopefully, I will be accepted this time around. I have visited Emory and spoken to some students that attended Emory. I know Emory cares a lot about interest displayed towards the university.

My academics are poop, but I have a STRONG upward trend and I have taken the most challenging courses my community college has to offer.

Strong personal essays about my involvement with animals and issues pertaining to their welfare. Also wrote about being bi-racial to not seem one dimensional :)

Kick-butt letters of recommendation.

Hope this enough to get me considered -_- …

Wow looks like I’m really late with posting here!

Awesome Recommendation Letters

My only concern is that I didn’t visit the campus. However, I was in contact with 2 transfer admission counselors through email. And I mentioned that on the Emory Supplement.

Lol seems this thread is dying … that’s weird knowing that Emory is a very Prestigious school.

MY STATS ------

Junior Transfer - Accounting
GPA 4.0
Units Completed 57
Units in Progress 12
Letter of Rec - Decent

not my first choice school but undergrad business is Nationally ranked 5 and I miss Georgia so might as well apply =] Good Luck All ! FIGHTING !

@esai23 I don’t think it matters you visited … I visited when I was in 9th grade but I didn’t mention it because I thought they were asking for like an Emory Scheduled School visit …

^

Emory considers implied interest to be very important. So things like campus visits and whatnot are important and worth mentioning in your application.

Question:

Are the freshman transfer students competing against other freshman transfer students, or every transfer that applies?

@Sat100 I called Emory and told them I had a few visits when I was a Freshmen at Georgia but they said it wouldn’t really matter because It wasn’t a “School Scheduled Visit” … But i did mention it in my supplement essay how I was infatuated with the school and its location … lol Hopefully I will still get in …

Does anyone know the answer to my question?:

“Are the freshman transfer students competing against other freshman transfer students, or every transfer that applies?”

Also can someone chance me please? My stats are on the previous page.

My two “negative” factors are probably:

1) Not visiting the campus
2) Having a 30 on the ACT - which when I told to the “admissions representative” over the phone, said was good.

You can still get in without visiting the school, especially if you live somewhat far away from Atlanta.

As for the freshman v. freshman question, I can’t be certain, but I would assume that freshmen applicants would be competing against other freshmen. Usually, schools are looking to fill up a class of a certain year, so I am guessing that freshmen compete against other freshmen.

And 30 act is probably above average for an Emory transfer. Transferring to Emory is easier than applying as a first-year.

Thanks SAT100. I can only hope I get in. By the way, do you know when we’ll be notified with the decision if we applied “early” (By March 15th)?

I read on the website that we will be notified by April 26th and the person over the phone said April 1st week.

^Are you sure? That is awfully early for decisions, considering the fact that we just turned the application in. Btw, has everyone already turned in their midterm report? I still have to turn mine in; most of my teachers don’t even do all the grading until the end of the semester. Hopefully I can get the midterm report filled and mailed in time.
