btw @btknight17, i noticed you got gt to cornell ilr. i’m still waiting for their decision as well

Do you guys think all the decisions will come out tomorr? I dont want to be in second round again…so tired of waiting!

Also, what time?

no idea what time. the suspense is driving me crazy. i was told by an admissions counselor that i would know by tomorrow.

okay, for further clarification: an admissions officer said they will be released at 7:00PM tomorrow.

7? Dang! I was really hoping for them to come out at 5 PM. Tomorrow is going to be a torturous day.

@sat100: tell me about it. it’s going to be a long, long day. best of luck to everyone who applied.

do you guys think not sending in mid-term grades hurt my chance a lot?
i was told by a nice lady that decision will be released around apr, 26th and i don’t have to send in mid-term grades.
but then i was told by a very, very rude lady that my decision will not be released without mid-term grades
i don’t know what to do at this point

and one more question
as i am taking 21 credits with some of the heavy classes like calculus 2 and writing intensive sciece course with lap and advanced probability and statistics, my current grade in calculus 2 is in between B- and B. Would it really hurt my chance becasue my major is econ? or would it be okay as emory univerisy requires only one calculus?
sigh… super nervous
i almost fought with my cal professor for two problems, which he took 21 points from.

Two questions:

1) Will the decisions be posted on opus alone or will we get emails as well?

2) Anyone transferring from a Community College?

Best of Luck everyone!

here im from community college in ny

Nice, I’m from a community college in Alabama.

@tndud6364, I also applied to Emory as an econ major. To your question about your major possibly affecting your admissions chances, I was told by an admissions officer that our choice of major does not affect our admissions decision to CAS (I noticed my supplement application for Emory also mentioned this as well when I had to indicate my choice of major). However, I am not sure if and how they weight specific courses for individual applicants (I’m also currently taking Calc II and already took Prob & Stat) but I can only imagine that a rigorous course load and relevant courses can only help your admissions chances in the eyes of the admissions officers (IMO, it helps validate your GPA and your readiness to immediately tackle the Emory curriculum as a transfer student).

To your question about the midterm report, the Emory website is actually quite confusing. In one portion it states: “Any student with less than 30 hours of college credit will be required to submit a mid-term grade report.” However, on that same page under application requirements, it also says: “Mid-Term Report if currently enrolled in school.” The first part makes it seem like it’s only required for students who have less than 30 credits but the later part says it’s required for all those currently in school. Either way, I personally chose to submit my midterm report even though I have over 60 credits (I had all A’s on my midterm report anyway).

Furthermore, based on my knowledge of the transfer application process from researching and speaking to people, the midterm report is not usually the deciding factor for your admissions unless you’re a current freshmen applying for transfer as an incoming sophomore (since current freshmen only have one semester of college level work under their belt for admissions counselors to review). The usual deciding factors are your GPA, essay(s), and LOR. The midterm report just helps the admissions committee know that your stated GPA is reflective of your current academic status (i.e. you’re not flunking all your classes, hence making your stated GPA less reflective of your true and most current academic record).

I know I wrote a lot but I hope all this makes sense and is useful to you in some way!

@ilovekoreanfood

i really appriciate your long and kind responses, and i am very glad to see that you love korean food as i am korean lol
btw they first said mid-term report is required of all transfer students no matter how many credits they have taken so far, and later they said it’s just recommended, not required lol im going to send in mine next week unless i get my decision tomorrow.
my gpa, essay and rec’s are pretty good like yours.

anyway i haven’t been able to focus on my works and i currently have my mid-term grades like A,A,A-, B+, B+,B. I wanna believe this is becasue my super heavy course loads and hope to make those B’s A’s after killing all the finals.
Do you think those B’s are okay because my B’s are not exactly same as other’s who are taking like 3 or 4 of so-so classes? (not trying to show off or something lol)

anyway thank you again for your responses and hope we all are accepted and study together at emory

So I’m guessing literally 24 hours and 28 minutes later we will see some traffic in this thread … watch opus crash x]

@tndud: I’m also from a community college in New York – Borough of Manhattan Community College to be precise. What school are you attending?

@emersongarcia

i go to queensborough community college!
i have friends at your school and heard your school is a bit harder than mine lol
and dont worry we are going to be accepted
the admission people might be like, “oh these guys from ny gave up a lot of opportunities in the city and chose our school, great” lol i really hope they think in that way, which i really dont think would happen

7 pm tomorrow…

This is probably going to feel like forever!

Anyway, I hope we all get in! :)

@tndud Is Emory your first choice? I know you’ve applied to UVA and Amherst too.

@emersongarcia

Start here go any where! Lol
Hey, I am from BMCC too. What’s your major?

Sent from my LG-MS770 using CC

@tndud: best of luck! I hope being from New York helps!

@sleepytransfer: Wake up! Kidding. I was a liberal arts major, but applied to Emory as a Biology major. What about you? Glad to know others from BMCC have decided to apply. It really is true – “Start here go anywhere!”

@sat100

long time no see! how have u been?
as you already know i applied to liberal arts schools like uva, emory, amherst and unc.
my first choice is amherst college, of course, but i know my chance of being admitted is like 0.5% lol
So, forgetting about amherst, my first choice would be unc which i got waitlisted from. If im accepeted to uva tomorrow or someday next week, i will wait for unc to release decisions for waitlist and then decide which one to attend.
I am not so obssessed with transferring to other schools at this point as im going to prepare for SAT next semester if im rejected by all the schools.
But yeah, it would definately be great to be accepeted to one of them, hopefully amherst and unc. how about you? which one is your first choice?
