according to an Emory Admissions person, all finalists in the past that attended the interview weekend have recieved atleast a full tuition scholarhship

I know for a fact my liberal arts scholarship did not make mee part of the emory scholars program, for it says so explicitly on my letter. It seems the only question is whether the 2/3 scholarship will get scholar standing...

The following comment appears in bold on the Emory Scholars website:

All Emory Scholars, regardless of the particulars of their award, are full members of the Emory Scholars Program and are eligible to enjoy all of its benefits and opportunities.

My understanding based on the above and discussion at the Emory Info Session is:

***150-170 out of the roughly 2000 Emory Scholars applicants are invited to join the Emory Scholars Program -- some being told now that they're getting 2/3 tuition; others being invited to the finalist weekend where some will thereafter get 2/3 tuition, some getting full-rides (full tuition, room & board, plus) -- but ALL are Emory Scholars who "enjoy all of its benefits and opportunities" (just enjoying different level of monetary awards).

***Emory offers other merit awards. Some come from the Emory Scholars pool; some from the general applicant pool. But, these other awards -- as generous as some may be -- are not part of the Emory Scholars Program.

Continued good luck to all.

I'm a finalist. Wow missing four days of practice right before our games start isn't going to fly well with my volleyball coach.

congrats emporer! you have really high scores.

I got the liberal arts scholarship for $12,000. I don't know whether to be happy or sad.....

does every semifinalist get something? and how much is the 2/3 scholarship?

My sister a few years ago was a semifinalist a few years ago and got nothing. I got a finalist letter today inviting me to the weekend, but it doesn't say anything about a guarantee of 2/3 tuition.

Question for finalists,
Are you all really good at academics or extracurriculars or both? I think I'm top notch in both but I'm not a finalist. Can you all discuss how good your credentials are? By the way, congrats.

I got my letter in Alabama...

I'm a finalist, YES!

i got my finalist letter this afternoon

testace,

My academics and extracurriculars are decent (2270 SAT, SATII: 800 Math 2 and 770 Chemistry, 3.98 unweighted GPA, 10/215 class rank, 5 APs between this year and last year, Scholar's Bowl, National Ocean Sciences Bowl, Mathematics League, NHS, Ultimate Frisbee Club, Outdoor Pursuits, Harvard Model United Nations, Eagle Scout). However, it's probably because of some of the unusual things I've done that made me a finalist (my sister had much better stats than me 2 years ago and she only made it to semifinalist).
For example, I've been working on a science project with a university professor and we recently submitted out publication to Developmental Psychology. After the hurricane I made an online student registry for the displaced Tulane students. In my essay, I emphasized how my interests and experiences with technology led me to my interest in studying cognitive science. I'm guessing that they like to see kids taking initiative outside of school to learn stuff on my own (I taught myself a number of programming languages) and doing stuff that stands out from the hundreds of other students applying.

I got my letter today in Los Angeles.

According to a handout I got last year while visiting Emory about 400 people become semifinalists. Of those about 150 get 2/3 tuition. 75 get invited to the weekend (these are the "finalists"). The interviews on that weekend decided which of the finalists get full tuition (50 people) and which get fulltuition along with room and board(25 people).
