Official Fall '07 Transfer Thread =)

Hey, Shoebox, I'm delighted to hear you're okay. My age-addled brain did not remember that you were one of the Hokies's I 'knew' until this morning. I had to wait until I got home from work to see if you were all right. I'm guessing that Dean J. PM'd you an answer. She, like all of us, would move heaven and earth for a Hokie this week.

And, let me offer my words of encouragement. The next few weeks are going to be tough. You're going to need some courage and strength to get back to class and get through it. You can do this. We're rooting for you because, well, we need you. More than you can imagine.

God bless,
RB

blackflag -

my research makes me think that. everyone keeps talking about them releasing decisions early last year (people started getting them on the 25th). But if you take it a step further and look at the last two years, in 2005, people started getting them on the 18th. Since friday will be the 20th and colleges tend to like to mail things out on friday, I would say that it is a reasonable guess to think that the mailings will begin tomorrow.

Just keep in mind that this guarantees nothing, as both years there were two waves, and the second wave is always about a week behind the first. and yes, decisions will be posted online around may 1st, but history tends to show that people receive their letters in the mail first.

if there are any errors in my logic, im sure Dean J could correct them or in fact give us a hint as to when the mailing date may be.

Hebrew Hammer - through all of this, I have one thing to say: there are better things to worry about in life. Trust me. And right now, I hate (hatehatehate!!!) to admit this, but UVa's decision is the last thing on my mind. Yes, subcounciously I worry, but in honesty, life is too short to be worried all of the time. Please, go outside, call your mother, enjoy friends, and laugh.

Redbeard- thank you for your concern. I almost cried when I finally logged onto CC that night and saw that there was already a "Shoebox10" post with two pages filled. You guys have been incredible, and I thought of Dean J and saw her post in the transfer thread and immediately realized that this truely affected everyone. And no, Dean J has not responded, but honestly, I do not worry. I was trying so hard to avoid the realization and acceptance of what had happened that I was trying to focus on something else. I don't even really remember writing that. In hindsight, i realize that she is busy and might be grieving as well. And believe me, I know she would do anything to help a Hokie, as she would go to great lengths for many even before this. As for classes, see my Shoebox10 thread. I've been using that to keep everyone updated, and will continue to do so well into May about my thoughts and impacts from this on VT, as well as my transfer status. And thank you, so much, for your encouragement. I don't know how many classes i'll have the strength to finish, but I will do my best, I swear on my fallen Hokies.

Easttowest- Dean J said she would post a mailing date on her blog ( http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/ ) as soon as she knew. Trust her to follow through. UVa is going through a very difficult time right now with the VT events, so give them some slack please. I know decisions seem like the end of the world right now, but please, the entire state of Virginia needs some time.

Shoebox, I know you're going through a tough time right now, as is everyone affected by that terrible event. But I was just talking about the subject at the head of this topic. We should continue to talk about how we feel about the tragedy, but this topic is specifically for talking about the transfer admissions for 2007. I don't think it's fair to assume that this is the only think I care about.

I was just trying to point out that the admissions office may be a bit behind due to all of this, and to just give it a bit more time.

I'm just wondering, no aggression intended, what the admissions office would be doing about this situation. There's no doubt that there'd be a lot going on at the school in response (just like there is here at UMW), but the admissions office is probably not associated with it.

On another note, does anyone know if this year's transfer app reading started earlier or later than the previous years? I'm trying to get a time frame for when I'd be finding out since there's a lot of stuff at my current school I'll need to take care of depending on the answer.

Sorry, the emotions these days have been a little high strung. I yelled at my brother the other day when he tried to wear a VT shirt to football practice because I was angry he was going to get it dirty, even though we all know a little water and Shout will conquer anything.
The admissions office is full of Deans, and I would be VERY suprised if they didn't know someone affected by this. Also, they are probably overwhelmed by the thought that this could happen anywhere. I think every single university's adminstration is trembling right now, and since the Adcom office is of topic here, I mentioned them specifically. Plus, some of them might have family at VT and spent Monday and Tuesday making sure everyone was okay.

As for application reading: I know the started two weeks before April began, but I don't know if that's earlier or later than last year. And since they extended the deadline, they might end up waiting till the last minute to notify the most people they can at once. But it would be REALLY nice if they started mailing today or sometime next week. I must say, I too, deep down, am getting a little ansy again.

Yup! thats true!! here in LA, ucla was having drills and stuff "just in case" it happens here.

I gotta say, life is so confusing and hectic here right now, I can't stand not knowing about UVa. I mean, it's hard enough not knowing what to do with classes, but now i'm starting to do nothing but think about decisions. I even dream about them...funny thing is, i've never reached the part of the dream where I know if I got accepted or not, I always wake up before then.

I know how you feel shoebox. It has definately been a long wait. It's been so long that now I dont even care if I got in or not (I would definately like to get in though coz its my first choice).

Hopefully we hear back this week. Fingers crossed!

I'm applying too, if I get rejected there is no recourse for me. But I guess things happen for a reason, whether I understand them or not....

Nothing today =( Dean J said that she would post on her blog when she had a mailing date anyways, so looks like we might actually be waiting until May 1. Boo. Ohwell, i've got enough stress deciding which classes to finish out or not. But i'm hinging a decision about one class on the UVA decision, so it would be nice to know soon here so I can finalize my semester plans.

My guess in Friday.

I guess I'll vote Friday too, which means most students probably won't get the letter until Monday due to most mailrooms only filling boxes Mon-Fri

Well, I have some news, that is either good or bad, depends on how you look at it:
I emailed someone in the engineering school responsible for transfer credit and asked if she knew anything (she's been incredibly helpful and nice, so I figured i'd give it a shot) and she "believe[s] the decision letters go out either this Friday or Monday".

So, I guess we can stop stalking our mailboxes. Looks like we didn't get as lucky as last year :(

thanks for the update shoe... i guess we were all hoping it would come out early (like it always has in the past), but good things are definitely worth waiting for and hopefully its good news for us all.

Wow that's late. I guess we'll find out our fate on the UVA website then? (as we won't get the letters until may 2nd or 3rd).

the website says april 30th, right? so that's next monday...

Haha I bet everyone on here is like me, we see a new post and wonder if it's someone saying they got a letter. Instead, we're coming to the realization that we'll probably see the online decision before a letter. Boo.

MightyNick- the online application status says April 30th, but the UVA website says May 1, sooo who knows. Hopefully they'll mail Friday, because although mail isn't delivered on Sundays, it still moves. So, for most of us in college, we could see the letter Monday (mine could actually be here Saturday, as it's less than 2 hours to UVA from VT, but mail isnt put in our boxes on the weekend, and due to last week's tragedies, we can't access our mailboxes except mon-fri, 10am-5pm, soo). If not, I guess it depends on when they post online decisions, which my guess, is that those will be the only thing that follow last year: May 1.

haha yeah I'm like you...i keep coming here to see if anyone go their decisions.

oh well we've waited months so waiting another week shouldn't be too hard....although it seems the days are passing by slower!!
