Official Fall 2010 Transfer Thread!

Please posts your stats here :)

I'm applying as a transfer for the Fall 2010 semester to COLA Anthropology and Geography from Houston Community College. My current GPA is a 3.356 with 27 hours. I'm taking the Spanish CLEP, 17 hours this semester and finishing up my Associate of Science in the summer.

What do you think?

Your chances are ok. GPA is a little bit on the low side, but you might get in.

I’m a current freshman Biology major applying for Biomedical Engineering (Cockrell) and Biology (Natural Sciences) from Texas A&M. My current GPA is a 4.0 with 24 hours. I’m taking 18 hours this semester and will hopefully have the same success as the first. :)

I was accepted for the Spring semester so, I hope my stats can help you out.

GPA: 3.48
Hours: 43
College: COLA

I’m applying to COLA Fall '10 … I’m confused how the transfer procedure works. I have 17 units right now with a 3.8 GPA, however, taking 19 units for Spring '10. Will I have to submit my transcript when I’m done with my 19 units then they will make a decision whether I’m in or not?

Xcellerator - Thanks for the helpful feedback! I have tons of EC’s, most of which I am an officer, as well as job experience related to my field of study. I have also requested LOR’s from various professors. Maybe once I submit my updated transcript after my Spring semester, they will see my positive academic trend and higher GPA :)

msolo45 - Thanks for posting! Did you have a lot of LOR’s? And did you submit a resume?

thaisteak - According to the transfer page, you must have at least 30 creds before you start the semester you are applying for. Since you will have more than 30 before the fall, I think you are okay. Also, they allow you to send your updated transcript after the Spring semester by June 15th. They might take a little longer in determining whether you are accepted because they will have to review your classes, but I could be wrong.

Thanks man. Good luck to you!

Does anyone know about transfering as a pre-nursing major???
My first choice is pre-nursing but I hear nursing is really competitive.
My second choice is Psychology which falls within the COLA.

I’m currently a freshman at Richland Community College within the Dallas Community College District. This past fall I took 17 hours and have a 3.53 gpa. I just finished a “wintermester” course and made an ‘A’ which now makes my current gpa 3.6. I’m taking another 16 hours this Spring. Total transfer hours will be 36 hours. I read somewhere that they take into account you taking courses within your desired degree program, but who knows for sure.

I read the resume wants you to explain the past five years of your life so here are my EC’s at a glance…
-Band all four years of high school.
-Colorguard and Winterguard also for all four years. Was Captain my senior year.
-Junior year I was on journalism staff as a photographer.
-NHS junior and senior year- required a total of 45 hours of volunteer work each year (junior year i was co-historian)
-Beta club Junior and Senior year- required a total of 9 hours of volunteer work each year
-then a few awards that were selected by teachers.
I have no real college Ec’s, but I am currently volunteering much of my time to helping clean my church (about 12 hours a week). <– should i even include that in my application?

Letters of Rec? definitely yes! I’m getting one from my psychology professor for sure. I think i’m only going to turn in one.

Essays will be fine.

***to clariffy the 30 hour thing in comments above…
I talked to an admissions counselor and they told me you can apply before you have the thirty hours completed but you must have them complete before they can make an admission decision. So as soon as you are done with the spring semester send in that final transcript.

Hey! No, I did not submit any LORs but I did submit a resume :)

UThopeful22 - I don’t know anything about the Nursing program, but you should definitely get accepted to COLA! Try to get a LOR from your HS band teacher and the volunteer coordinator at your church! And yes, include anything significant that you are involved in!

heyy guys.

transferring from a school in ca to COLA with a 3.65 gpa. think i got a shot?

oh and do out of state people have the same/better/worse chance than texas people?

thanks :)

Does anybody know whether they only look at your GPA from ONLY transferable classes or do they look at your overall GPA including those remedial/nontransferable classes?

sclove09 - I think you have a great shot. A 3.6 is pretty good for an out of state applicant. I know someone from Oregon that got into COLA with a 3.63. Just be sure to get some LOR’s and do the optional essay as well :)

thaisteak - I think they only look at the classes that will transfer. You can double-check which ones transfer here: [UT ATE System - Query by Other College’s Course](<a href=“UT ATE System”>UT ATE System)

adridnepenthe - thanks for the website, but i’m out of state and i don’t think they include the oos schools on there.

Aw man, I’m sorry about that. Maybe you should just give them a call or something. They’ve been really helpful to me.

My units that I’m taking right now are all transferable to a UC (University of California) system, but I’m worried they aren’t transferable to UT. Do they just decide if the class is transferable in general or do they consider the ‘30 units’ to be the classes that solely transfer to UT only?

The 30 units have to be transferable credits only.

Transferable to UT only?

As long as they are courses that are offered at UT. If they are basic cores like Eglish Comp 1 and College Algebra, you should be good.

oh crap… i’m taking experimental psych at my school right now and I doubt that’s a course that is offered at UT…

Hmmm…you should meet with your adviser ASAP and see what classes transfer over. UT is huge, so they probably have the Experimental Psych course.
