thaisteak, I’m living in an off-campus apartment…but technically it’s on campus because it’s so close.

I don’t think there’s such a thing as hoping too much, like I said, my situation is unique. If it’s not what I was initially hoping for, there’s always a chance it will change later on in the year. I’ll just have to see how it all pans out.

Is it possible for packages to get better as people commit/decline UT? For example, if a student that was admitted received an attractive package but chose a different school in the end, could they give that money to someone else?

yes msolo45, that’s very possible. I was told to always check and see if there is any available money left a week before school starts. Apparently, if they have money leftover and no one claims it then anyone else who is eligible can claim it.

I just got my financial aid package today. As of now, I will only have about $3,500 total in loans per semester. The rest was covered by grants. Sundoll, I don’t know what your full situation is, but our efc is the same and I’m in COLA too. I’m happy with what I got though since I will most likely get a scholarship/grant to cancel out a loan or two before the end of the school year.

I’m happy for you longhorn, must take a load off for you. That sort of ****es me off seeing as how our circumstances appear to be similar, especially since I have another person in my household to take care of, but of course I don’t know their methods and should be thankful I’m getting at least a portion of my education subsidized. Hopefully in the spring I’ll qualify for more scholarships since this time around I was really limited by not having my UT gpa yet.

and apparently I can’t use the slang term for being perturbed lol

Lol. It is really odd. I really don’t know how our packages ended up different, but I hope things change for the better for you :)

Try filling out UTs special circumstances form, thats what i did at UH. Im sure UT has something of that nature.

Did that already - it got me about 700 extra bucks for the semester, that was it. Maybe I’ll go hold up a bank…kidding. ;)

congrats to everyone who got accepted especially you Xcellerator, i was reading through out this whole thread just watching all your posts of you waiting and waiting and waiting l, the suspense was killing me but anyway AAli4Real, i don’t get how its possible to get 6,400 per semester in financial aid when the pell grant is only 5,550 isn’t it? every year i get the pell grant here at my local college and if i get accepted to ut austin, i’m worried i won’t have enough with only the pell grant since its more costly

the pell grant is $5,550 for both semesters, so $2,275 per semester. That leaves room for other types of financial aid to be given out. For example, I received 4 other types of grants besides the pell grant per semester. I actually ended up receiving a little more than $6400 in grants per semester.

wow really longhorn, thats crazy, dam i was worried i wouldn’t get more money from grants, i mean my mom doesn’t make much at all, so hopefully i can get as much as you so i don’t have to go to loans or scholarships since those are a whole different ball park

True. As long as you get your FAFSA completed and sent to them by the priority deadline I think you should be fine :). Btw my efc was as low as it can get

Do people usually walk to class or do they skateboard or bike?

The majority walk. Some bike. Few Skateboard.

hey longhorn, forgot to ask, like did you get anything back in refunds, extra money for yourself, you got over 12k in one year , and i know tuition, fees, books is like 8-9k in a year not including housing cuz that’s another 8k, not sure if ur living on campus or not though

@RatedRudythat’s actually my financial aid for fall 2010…so they haven’t released my funds yet. I will be getting a refund since my housing is less than 5k per semester. but most of that money will be spent on the apt since it’s not furnished

o ok, so ur not living on campus then right? also did it say what the other 4 grants u got were called, their names? cuz i know one is pell grant, not sure what the others are called

no i’m not. and the other grants were just grants you get from your academic standing…and the UT Grant. I’m pretty sure they knew that had to give me something to replace the academic grant I was supposed to be receiving at my old school.
