spkerjff25: Decent shot at UCSB and UCSD, probably not too great for UCLA but they do take essays into account so that’s a variable.

I’ll join (though I thought there was already a thread for this somewhere…)

Essay: my personal one was decent (wrote about how my stubbornness helped me while living with abusive mentally ill parent and then to pay for moving out/paying for college myself), my intended major could have been better, I think (want to become a lawyer, do education reform thanks to belief in public schools/13 year in lausd, blah blah). I can’t judge my own writing, but I didn’t get anyone else to review them…

Other: Feeling good about my EC’s and ok about essays, but worried that they’re only gonna see this semester of grades, and especially if I get that B in English (it’s one of those classes where no matter what, you just don’t know what your final grade will be).

jbustos: I think you still have above the average GPA of a UCLA anthro major, haha. PLus your volunteer work sounds awesome and LA does do the “holistic” thing,

**Essays:**mentioned **** which shows I have alpha male characteristics: values family, driven, persistent, capable of higher level thought. Mentioned work experience and wrote about how working has defined me as a person and has driven me to want to further my study of business/econ. Major neutral essays so the essay would apply to any of those three listed major(not that that’s hard to do, add the words “and economics” after business) Other essay was about my integrity and backed by examples. Both essays flowed and played off of each other but were acceptable alone. On other thoughts, mentioned struggles with calc and the other stuff… 1070 words total between 3 essays with roughly 400 words per essay for the first two and 250 for the other thoughts section.
**Other:**Took college classes since age 16, had a W in calculus 1, retook calcII 3 times, got a C the final time, took Honors calc 1+2 got a B(after taking it a SECOND time), neither parent graduated college. GPU has a U shaped trend, but doesn’t vary THAT much. Non-Calculus GPA is something like a 3.8, either 86 or 90 units, applied as junior(I got into a class I hadn’t thought I would be able to)
also a local(20 mile radius, 6 miles for UCI) to all colleges I applied except UCSB and possibly UCR(though I’d be commuting their anyway… EUGH)

just guessing and am by no means an expert and I’m probably too strict since it gives justification to my own paranoia:
jbustos: good shot at UCI, low reach UCSD, reach for UCB and UCLA
spkerjff25: low reach at UCSB, reach UCSD, high reach UCLA
arcadefire1027:if from CC I’d say in at all not sure about UC transfers… probably in at UCD and UCSB and low reach for UCB and UCLA
MidnightGolfer: in:UCI UCD; low reach: UCSD; mid-reach: UCLA, UCB
Eshug1: in: UCSB; low reach: UCSD; midreach: UCLA, UCB, USC
cpbbookworm: you’re a wild card, can’t really be accurate, but in:UCD; low reach: UCSD;mid reachUCB, UCLA
SMCguy:low reach UCSD; high reach:UCLA, UCB,

rough percentages: in: 80%ish; low reach 60%ish, mid 40ish high 20ish
I’m pulling numbers out of my rear FYI, also didn’t look at TAG/TAP just skimmed GPA, essays and EC
