*Official Fall 2010 UC Transfer CHANCE thread*

didn’t read the UC transfer faq?

GPA is the primary tool of consideration for UC transfer

^
In no way was that official. But yes, thank you for the chance.

^ it is official, the UC system publicated that GPA is the primary factor for condsideration wen it comes to transfer students.

^
Kewl. Thanks.

Hey guys I’m a history major at UCSD looking to transfer for my junior year to UCLA or Berkeley. I was wondering if you guys could give me an honest reply of what my chances are of getting accepted.
UC GPA: 3.7 plus
I have a strong grade trend, where I started out with a 2.8 and then went to a 3.9 3.6 and then another 3.9
Also, even though my units go chronologically 16, 18, 14, 12, last quarter I took 3 Upper div history courses
I have 87 units and took 15 over the summer (9 after my freshman year, 6 after my senior year in high school). Would really appreciate a response

Also, as for my extra cirriculars,
I have NO working experience but am in Calpirg and have made provost honors 3 out of the last 4 quarters.

^ you should be in NP 3.7 is fine just finish your Lower division there and check what classes you need at Cal which may be different then what your classes are there.

You did finish UC reciprocity right?

I honestly dont know what that means. But, yeah, I am done with my lower division requirements. Now I am taking all upper divs for my major. Thanks again for responding so quickly

So after doing some research I found that UC Reciprocity means that you need to finish your lower divs and GE’s. I’ve done that but my brother is telling me that some of my classes will NOT transfer over when I go to my new school. Does this mean I still have uc reciprocity?

hey guys, could you give me some insight?

Major: international relations @ UCSD, UCSB, UCD; crim @ UCI
UC GPA: 3.76
Applying to: ^^^
Prereqs: spring 2010 it will be done for my uci (which i focused on) 1 class left for sd/sb which i might save for summer
IGETC: completed
TAG/TAP: sadly, none.
Units - i have completed 37, i have 24 right now as of Spring 2010.

thing is, im feeling overwhelmed( i work 25hrs a week), and i don’t need one of my 3 unit classes…so im thinking could i drop it…finish spring with 58 units…then take a random class during the summer to finish?

uci rep said its fine…actually told me to take 18 and do 6 over summer.

all the other schools say its very important…and im meeting with an sd rep…ahhh

Major: Civil Engineering (but some schools don’t offer certain engineering majors)
Secondary: Applied Math
UC GPA: 2.85
Applying to: UCI (Civil), UCSB (Mech), UCSD (Structural), UCR (Mech), Pomona (EE - Mech and Civil are impacted), SLO (Civil), SDSU (Civil), Fullerton (Civil - already got in)
Prereqs: Finished all math, physics, programming, and chemistry courses… didn’t get around to doing Statics though so missing 1
IGETC: Finished by Spring 2010
TAG: I wish…
EC’s: President of Engineering Club, ICC rep for Math Club, Big Bros and Sis of OC, American Cancer Society Volunteer, been working part time since high school (jobs and tutor), volunteer tutor at the school.

Essay: Every rep I talked to said the essay only matters if you apply for money (with such a low GPA, im just worried about getting in…) but 9/10 i’d say…

Other: Thyroid Cancer Survivor (diagnosed last Spring and got the good news just before the app update so I mentioned it =)

I know my GPA is terrible and there are no excuses. I’d really appreciate honest opinion though. Thanks guys!

Just throwing it out there, the reason I applied to some pretty gnarly UC’s was mainly because of UC StatFinder (counselor’s advice). By theory I have about a 30% chance of getting into UCSD. What’d you guys think? Also, I know this is shallow but should I mention my cancer situation to any of the school rep’s so they can put a memo on the app or something? I don’t (in anyway) try to sound like a baby but seriously it wasn’t easy balancing radiation and physics homework… (not to mention multiple surgeries)

Dino:

First of all, I would strongly recommend taking the CIM 1 class to replace the CS1A grade =) and if you don’t have 60+ units you won’t get in anywhere. I know 24 is ton but in my opinion it’ll pay off soon. Cut back on work dude, your gpa is solid. I would focus on keeping those grades up (work in the summer). You need all the units you can get right now. But as far as your chances go, if you go through with everything, you’re a shoe in everywhere.

PS. Don’t drop english 1B!!! You might not get an A but you don’t need more then a C now…

PSS. Here’s an idea, if you don’t need one of your 3 unit classes, drop it and add CIM1 (if you can get an APC code). You’ll have your 60 units and your GPA should be pretty close to a 4.0. Make sure you can add that class before dropping anything though…

Dangel: UC Reciprocity basically means you finished your GE requirements at your current UC prior to transferring. If you do transfer, these classes basically transfer over but not in a literal course-to-course equivalent manner.
However, you did write you took 3 upper div history classes and they might not actually transfer over. The issue with upper divs is they have to be pretty close/dead on to a class at the UC you transfer to, mostly because upper divs tend to be specialized.

luis:

jesus christ you scared me lol. I’m like how did he…ahhh

I emailed my professor for a diff class, so im hoping to keep my 24 units + the CIM1 class. should be interesting.

im not worried about dongell either, i have a 4.0 if i retake the cim class, so 1 or 2 b’s won’t hurt.

good luck to you. the **** you’ve done, completely out****s mine. hope you make it big, man, and thanks :]

edit: <60 units is not good for ucsb/sd/d as i saw…but they highly recommend you finsih 60+ by spring 10’

uci says you need 60 by summer 2010…ill still finish it now…put up or shut up…

edit2: i took 22 last semester but…i just want a lighter load… w/e ha

What are my chances at all UC’s except for riverside and merced.

Psychology major

3.59 GPA

IGETC along with the Assist page completed.

My Grades show an upward trend

4.0 GPA in psychology courses.

volunteered for a whole summer at a mental hospital.

If i applied right now, what are my chances at the mid to high tier Uc’s?

what could i do to increase my chances besides raising my GPA?

I think you have good chances at UCI for sure.

In terms of increasing chances…not so much stuff you can do for a Fall 2010 transfer…all thats in…is in…just keep up the good grades…

Major: Political Science

CC GPA: 3.72

Units completed: 78.5

Applied to UCLA, UCB, and UCSD

Prereqs: All done except Stat (which will be completed this Spring)

IGETC: Completed

Degrees: AA and 2nd AA done by this Spring

EC: Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Men’s Choir, Tennis, Church Volunteer, Open Heart Kitchen worker, Ultimate Frisbee, Academic Excellence awards, music letters.

Working part-time: Yes

Essay: 9/10 basically how I found a love for international systems through travelling and witnessing them first hand. Second essay about how I earned an AA degree before finishing High school and how I matured and developed while taking two school loads from freshman year to my senior year.

you’ll get into UCSD for sure. I don’t think you’ll get into Berkeley but keep your fingers crossed. As far as UCLA goes, I would flip a quarter to decide your admission.

CURIOUS: Did you already apply or are you applying soon? Sorry i’m a little confused… If you already applied, Dino’s right, there’s not too much you can do. But if you haven’t yet applied, do internships and start a club at your school or something. EC’s look good when your GPA is high up there. Keep it up!

Peterr 86:
I appreciate the comments that you gave me about uc reciprocity, and my chances to get into UCLA and Berkeley, but with my lack of ec’s, what makes you so sure that I will get in?
