*Official Fall 2010 UC Transfer CHANCE thread*

^bump bump bump

Major: Sociology

UC GPA: 3.2

Applying to: UCI, UCD, UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, UCSC, UCR, UCM

Prereqs: finished

IGETC: finished

TAG/TAP: No. damn it.

ECs: Part of a church youth group, clubs in high school, a lot of volunteer work with the homeless (almost 4 years), attended many events for fundraisers such as the AIDS walk and etc., worked at a daycare center with kids, and was part of a musical in high school.

Essay: 1st. Talked about how my love for sociology sparked as a kid, but I never knew how to define it as a subject until I discovered it. (sounds like bs, but it’s really true). 2nd. Talked about how i’m very open-minded person & how it affects my life in a very positive manner. I spoke about how it was beneficial and allowed to be stand out between my peers because I was able to experience things they would not experience due to their ignorance and biases. 3rd essay. talked about my drug use and how it affected me during my first few quarters/semesters in college. I spoke about how I went into a drug-induced depression that made schoolwork my last priority, which explained why I received such poor grades. Then explained that I eventually achieved sobriety, set my life straight, and dedicated my life to school and staying positive in life. I heard that this sort of an essay was a “no-no”, but I felt that talking about this subject was very necessary because those events definitely affected my schoolwork and life.

In general, my essays were written very well due to a lot of peer reviewers and friends who aided me. I would give them a 9/10, if they were ratable.

Other: My grades show a really strong upward trend from a mix between A’s B’s and C’s to only A’s. The only grades that I received B’s and C’s in are the ones that are not under assist.org for my major.

Major: Poly Sci
applied to UCLA and Berkley
1 year transfer
igetc: done by spring
pre reqs: 5 for 6 done by spring(stats and 4 polysci classes)
GPA 4.0 first semester from 19 units same thing most likely in spring. so ill be in good shape to appeal i feel.
TAP no figured ill do it if i dont get in this year

Major: Film Studies/Media
UC GPA: 3.35
Applying to: UCSB, UCSC
Prereqs: After Spring Completed
IGETC: Already Completed
TAG/TAP: TAG w/ UCSB
ECs: I interned at a local news station,
Essay: I think an 8/10, I talked about how growing up in a small town shaped me and how film is my passion.
Other: I am worried because I am taking 25 units my last semester, poor planning on my part but, work and life got in the way. Now I am completely devoted to school. My first choice is Santa Barbara, but I am scared that because my last semester is going to have seven classes in it that they will not accept me. Anyone have a similar circumstance. Thanks.

@ Pscholler

I think you should be into Film Studies with your TAG at UCSB as long as it is included in TAG.

@ DCSPORTSFAN

I’m confused if you will have finished all your prereqs by Spring, if you have finished all then you should have a really good chance, 90%. If not, then you might be auto-rejected because UCLA PS is impacted.

@ Misteranonymou

UCLA is possible, but doesn’t seem plausible. 30%
The other schools you should be fine.

Well I think I have TAG, UCSB’s TAG was on the UC application, am I right?

Ya it should be, sometimes majors are excluded from TAG for certain reasons.

Anyone know what my chances are?

You may get in, or you may not.

Major: History
UC GPA: 3.7
Applying to: UCSB, UCSD, UCI, UCLA, USC
Prereqs: completed by Spring
IGETC: completed by Spring
TAG/TAP: none
ECs: volunteered, clubs, etc. the usual
Essay: I think an 7/10, I talked about my financial circumstances, family, volunteer work. I talked about Anthropology as my major, even though I switched to History after I applied.
Other: I am taking 19-22 units in the Spring. I switched my major to History after I applied. My first choice is UCLA, but I am taking most of my major classes, math, and english in the Spring. So I’m worried that because I am taking most of my major and IGETC classes in the Spring, they will not accept me.

Please chance me. My situation is very weird.

what about me guys?

^ You should try to contact the schools that you applied to. If it helps, look at this [Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2009 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof09_mjr.htm#AA) to try to compare yourself with admitted students to UCLA

Can I get more feedback please? My information is on the page before this one. Any help will be appreciated!

misteranonymou, last year everyone was accepted at UCSD with a 3.0+ from many sources that I’ve read on this site. The cut-off was 3.0. I’d say you are in at UCSD.

I would also say you’re in at UCSB, UCM, UCR, and UCSC.

The schools that I’m not as certain about are UCI and UCD. I’m not very familiar with UCI at all, so I can’t be of much help there. UCD I would say is a match-slight reach. If your personal statements are as good as you say, I’d say you’re in there too.

UCLA is very doubtful. A 3.2 is pretty low, and generally UCLA is all about the numbers and having the prereqs done with. I would say it’s definitely a reach even with your great trend. It’s possible, but I wouldn’t count on it.

Hope I helped! What are your favorites?

@ saad.ahmed: I’d say you’re in at both UCI and UCSD. You’re good to go with those EC’s, good essays, and solidish GPA.

@ emilsinclair9 can you please chance me my stats are on the 4th page :)

@ emilsinclair9

Thanks a lot for the feedback. The schools that i’m realistically aiming for are UCI, UCSD, and Davis - the rest are emergencies and LA was just for fun, haha. What do you mean by the 3.0 cutoff, can you be more specific? Again, thanks for the feedback <3333

@ misteranonymou: I’d say that you’re definitely in at 2 out of those 3 and possibly all 3.

To briefly explain the UCSD cut-off: Last year everyone…yes everyone who applied with a 3.0 or above were accepted to UCSD as a transfer student. I’ve also heard that this is the case this year. You should be fine for UCSD with a 3.2.

Davis and UCI aren’t as clear-cut about everything, so chancing is more ambiguous. But like I said, and now that I have more info after seeing your grade trend in the other thread, I’d say in at 1, possibly 2, but I wouldn’t expect to get into both.

Hope that helped, and I wish you the best of luck!

@ la4ever09: I need a little more information. What sort of EC’s/jobs have you done? Are any of them relatable to History?

Do you have an upward trend?

I would say 100% in at UCSB and UCSD.

With TAP, I would say 75% for UCLA…pending you have some solid EC’s.

I’d bank on getting into all 3 because of TAP certification…GOD I wish my school had TAP!!! haha.

@emilsinclair9

Thank you so much for all your help, here’s an online rose to show you my appreciation:
