*Official Fall 2010 UC Transfer CHANCE thread*

hahaha no problem! Yeah, it’s tough getting a chance when there are so many looking for them, especially when they’re all in one or two threads. I was looking for a chance (either in this thread or the other one) a few weeks ago, and someone helped me out.

Always good to help others out, so I’ll try to keep chancing people if they want. I’m a Psych major lol so I’ll be helping others in various ways in the future, or so I hope. Just let me know on what page and stuff like that.

Glad to help, and I wish ya luck!

One of my EC’s was volunteering at the VA medical center. Even though it’s technically not related to history, i spoke in one of my essays about how i discussed history and historical events with the veterans at the VA medical center. My trend has been pretty consistent so there is not an outstanding upward trend with 4.0’s. I appreciate you taking the time to chance me :)

^
nice move. i wonder if i can teach calculus to veterans…

thanks. that may be a difficult task but it doesn’t hurt to try…lol

@ la4ever09:…Yeah, that EC will definitely work; that’s really unique. Okay, I’d say you’re a lock for UCLA too.

thanks emilsinclair9

@la4ever09 i don’t know if i’m as optimistic as emil. 3.31 gpa is the average applied last year for history and UCLA got a record amount of application this year. I believe the average admitted GPA was 3.71 .

On the plus side you have TAP but i don’t know if TAP can make up the .4 gpa maybe. The good new is history was a 44% admit last year bad new is it’s impacted.

So i would say 50/50 shot with tap

Please chance me :)

Major: History
UC GPA: 3.7
Applying to: UCSB, UCSD, UCI, UCLA, USC
Prereqs: completed by Spring
IGETC: completed by Spring
TAG/TAP: none
ECs: volunteered, clubs, etc. the usual
Essay: I think an 7/10, I talked about my financial circumstances, family, volunteer work. I talked about Anthropology as my major, even though I switched to History after I applied.
Other: I am taking 19-22 units in the Spring. I switched my major to History after I applied. My first choice is UCLA, but I am taking most of my major classes, math, and english in the Spring. So I’m worried that because I am taking most of my major and IGETC classes in the Spring, they will not accept me.

Please chance me. My situation is very weird.

So you saved all the difficult classes for last hmm.

i say you have a good shot at all of them you are right at UCLA’s average GPA your essay is kinda weird in the sense you talk about another major.

What UCLA might and probably will do is offer you a provisional acceptance with a near 4.0 gpa requirement in the major pre-req classes

Your situation is seriously weird lol you’re right about that.

Okay well here’s my take on it:

The fact that you don’t already have grades in for math and English definitely hurts your chances. Those are the core courses that they want to see grades in.

I don’t know anything about USC, so I can’t help you there.

I would say you’re in at UCSB, UCSD, and UCI.

UCLA is going to be a reach because of those core courses that you’re in the process of completing.

UCLA could offer you a conditional acceptance, but no one on here has any say on how exactly that will happen if, indeed, it does. Thus, barring a conditional acceptance, I’d say your chances are around 40%. If you get a conditional acceptance, however, you should be good to go as long as you meet those requirements.

I’d say you have a higher chance if it weren’t for those English and math courses you still don’t have grades for. UCLA is all about requirements and GPA. You’re there for GPA. I can’t say you are for IGETC and major requirements.

wow guys thank you for all the feedback.
@emilsinclair9 so you think that I could get accepted to UCLA, but there is a 40% chance that they might offer me a conditional acceptance.

thanks peterr86 ive heard many people say 50/50. So is it going to come down to my PS, EC or what?

E.C=>Essay=>location your at now

thank you emilsinclair, really appreciate it! i really hope you get into UC Berkeley, you really deserve it!

Haha thanks saad! I hope so too. If I don’t get in, it’s either Davis or UCSD for me…or maybe UCLA if I get in. I hope you go to wherever you prefer! Wish you all the best man.

Hey guys! I was wondering if you could chance me? I’m near the bottom of page 16!
Thanks!

Hey der134ch3l0r, so here’s my chance:

You’re above the mean for admitted transfers for UCLA according to their Profile of Admitted Students. I would say that you’re definitely in if you have all the prereqs done. I also think it’s really unique that you received your AA while in high school. That’s extremely cool, and I think admissions departments may find that interesting. So for UCLA in.

I’d also say you’re a lock for UCSD. Last year everybody was admitted with GPA’s 3.0 and above. You should definitely be fine there.

I’m not as familiar with UCB’s political science department, however, I would imagine it’s average transfer GPA is around 3.7, so by that I’d say you’re in. Also, I think your EC’s are solid and your essays sound very relevant to your major. Again, if you have the prereqs done, I would say you’re in.

Also, how old are you? I’m just wondering because you said you received your AA while in high school. That’s awesome. I also took about half of my CCC credits while I was still in high school.

I got mine the quarter after I graduated high school. Did you do Middle college or duel enrollment or something along those lines?
