*Official Fall 2010 UC Transfer CHANCE thread*

@ BayAreaTransfer: You’re in everywhere, especially with writing about ICT in your essays.

You are pretty much in anywhere, too, emil. What about me?

not to say that you’re not in (b/c your gpa is still above the average and I still think you have a very good shot) but the “optional courses” are recommended and do actually have an impact on your admission at Berkeley. I’m the same major as you.

Major: Managerial Economic
UC GPA: 3.9
Applying to: UCB, UCSD, UCLA, UCD, UCSB
Prereqs: done by spring
IGETC: done by spring
TAG/TAP: TAG with UCD
ECs: a cashier in a restaurant, volunteer in Salvation army
Essay:7/10 edit by a english major student in UCLA and english teacher
Other:

@ nero103: What prereq are you missing? Are you taking it right now (IP)? If so, I would say you are in no problem to UCLA. If not, I know that UCLA really cares about prereqs, and that could definitely hurt you.

You are a ballsy guy lmao. Only UCLA and UCB, ehh?

For UCB: I’m not sure how selective their political science is, but I would assume that it’s a little more selective. Maybe like 3.7-3.74 Av. GPA admitted. That being said, if you wrote great essays (I like your topics, PM me if you want me to check em out), prereqs done or IP, and have taken a solid amount of poli sci classes to demonstrate your interest in the major, I would say you’re in there as well.

Oh, I am currently taking U.S. History and Political Theory to complete all pre-reqs for Cal and UCLA.

Sure, I can send you my essays.

Okay here goes:

ijahmanufuxx: You are in at UCSD. Anyone with a 3.0+ is good to go. If you want me to chance you for the others, let me know.

SMCguy: I would actually disagree with edelynly. You may be a tad of a long shot, but I would say you’re borderline. I mean you go to SMC, so that is a major plus. Additionally, you say you’re an underrepresented minority and wrote 9/10 essays. Of course, I’ll have to take your word for it on that one. You also have 5 years of solid work experience. All that being said, I like your chances. UCLA will evaluate you holistically, and all of these factors will come into play. I think your GPA is your only drawback, and considering a 3.41 is still pretty good, I don’t think, if you were to be rejected, that would be the sole reason. Your intangibles, so to speak, are really good, and that leads me to think that UCLA would definitely not accept/reject you based on GPA alone.

Again I really like your chances.

@ nero103: Ok yeah, I like your chances for UCLA for sure. You’re right at their (actually slightly above) Avg. GPA admitted for your major. Again, I like your EC’s.

Berkeley I’m a little more iffy about, but like I said, pending your essay quality and demonstrated interest in the major, I wouldn’t be surprised if you got in.

75% for UCLA. 50% for UCB.

Chance me anyone?

Bulenight, its been less than an hour, no need to repost your stats just yet.
Anyways:
In at UCSD, UCD, and UCSB.
As for UCLA and UCSB, they don’t have managerial economics programs so I’m gonna go off my assumption that you mean just plain Economics at Berkeley and UCLA, which I’de say is about a 7/10. Probably slightly lower at UCB than UCLA because UCLA is more GPA focused where as UCB tends to look more at the whole picture.

@ corinnejay:

Hopefully the Calc won’t make TOO much of a difference because I have everything else completed, including the recommended history course. Is your first choice UCB? Hopefully we both get in =)

Major: Pre-Poli Sci
GPA: 3.5
School: UCLA, UCB, UCSB
TAP/TAG: TAP for UCLA
Pre-Reqs: Done
IGETC: Done
School: Pierce College, Mission College, Valley College
E/C: Internship for an CA Assemblymember

@BayAreaTransfer I think Cal and UCLA are about tied in my mind. I’de be extremely happy with an acceptance to either one. I hope we both get in too! What school do you go to?

@ emilsinclair9 - Thanks for the reply. I’m trying to stay hopful but realistic =)

@ corinnejay

I go to Ohlone in Fremont. What about you? Where about in the bay are you from?

I went to canada in redwood city, but I went to tahoe for the winter and am going to De Anza for my last quarter.

thanks, can you chance me for the others too.

Hey, I really would like to get into UCLA or UCB for obvious reasons. What do you think my chances are?

Major: History
Applying from: Victor Valley College and Riverside Community College
UC GPA: current 3.6 Most likely 3.7 by Spring (Upward Trend)
Applying to: UCB, UCLA, UC Davis: Already accepted to UC Irvine
Prereqs: Done in Spring (for UCB mostly)
IGETC: Done in Spring
TAG/TAP: None
ECs: Model UN, Wrestling coach, Varsity things in HS, community service: some being from older dates.
Essay: Strong (At least I think so) essay (1) Talked about overcoming my depression. Essay (2) My interest in History, my internship, and status in MUN, also future plans. I know it sounds like a lot but I actually had space to keep going…
Other: Hispanic, if that makes a difference. Also, I have one class that was Pass/No Pass during this last Winter session. Spanish 2, but I had already taken two years in HS, and SPA2 has nothing to do with my intended major. Not sure if it’ll effect me though.

I feel so stupid for not applying to more schools! Is there a chance that I might get rejected from all of the school that I applied to, or is it some what mandatory to accept transfer students that completed the IGETC to at least one of the school they applied to?

Please let me know what you guys think, thank you.

Major: Geography
UC GPA: 3.54
Applying to: UCLA, UCB, UCSD
Prereqs: completed
IGETC:will be completed this spring
TAG/TAP: Tap- UCLA (Honors Program)
ECs: Volunteer with various cancer societies, AGS, deans honor list
Essay: ehh…one was about traveling to Bangladesh and how it inspired me to major in Geography. The second was about my personal endeavors… which had countless grammatical errors because i rushed it! =(.

I really need a Berkeley Chance, because I want to visit, but I don’t want to waste my money. I live about a 6 hour drive away from Berkeley (yes, I’m a cali resident), but money is REALLY tight. However, my CC anthropology instructor wanted to set me up on a visit of the Berkeley campus during my school’s spring break. She was going to set me up with some instructor friends of hers over there, and I’d be able to sit in on some of the anthro classes there as well.

My problem?? I won’t know if I have been accepted by Berkeley until April 30th, and Spring break is April 4. If I knew I was accepted to Berkeley, I’d take the trip without question. I’ve never been there, and I know I am going to have to see it before I decide. As I said, however, the trip would ONLY be worth the trip if it is likely that I will be accepted into Berkeley.

Please chance me with this in mind – tell me if it seems like I have a good enough chance to get into Berkeley that I should indeed visit. Thanks.
