*Official Fall 2010 UC Transfer CHANCE thread*

^ Well, good luck! If you save the world, that frees up a lot of my time.

alright i gotta get out of this forum and concentrate on studying, test in 3.5 hours! thus an end to our bromance. good luck with your admissions.

PEACE OUT forum!

Frats are institutions based around the buying of friends, the forcing of people to like you due to affiliation. It’s a bunch of guys stroking each others egos, while at the same time stroking their own even harder to be the alpha ego stroker, and ego strokee…simultaneously.

what are my chances people? thanks!

Major: Political Science (International Relations) & Psychology (as double)
UC GPA: 3.946
Applying to: UCB, UCLA, UCD, UCSD, UCSB (already got in to UCSD and UCSB)
Prereqs: done by spring
IGETC: done
TAG/TAP: none
ECs: work 2 jobs, 1 at NASA Ames Research Center, a lot of HS ECs which don’t really count, in PTK
Essay: I think it was OK, a bit over the place. Overall probably 8-9/10

I think you’re definitely in at UCLA. Berkeley has an 18% accept rate for both polisci and psych (along with the rest of the social sciences), so even a 4.0 would probably be on the fence. I have basically the same stats and I’m applying in history (also 18%), and I give myself a 50/50.

You’re definitely in at UCLA. UCB is ALWAYS a gamble, but you should be in. Davis might reject you because they don’t think you’ll register.

Ok so i’m posting this here since nobody has given me feedback from the berkeley transfer thread…

Hey guys! I havent really done this before but would you also please chance me for UCB. I’ve given up my hopes for UCLA already since the ave admit for Communications is ridiculous (3.93). I dont have any idea on what the ave admit gpa for Media Studies in Berkeley so…please chance me

3.78 GPA

IGETC and prereqs done
Lots of ECs.
Decent essay - talked about my move from my home country to the US 2 1/2 years ago

so what do you think? I would appreciate your responses!

also like a chance if anybody in the know is willing?

Number 1 school: UCLA!
Major: Global Studies
Alternate Major: East Asian Studies
Tap: Yes
GPA: 3.65
Essay: 8/10
EC’s: a bunch. Work as a basketball trainer.

Also I went to a UC first year of college.

Since no one’s chancing you guys, I will!

@hellostranger - I hear media studies is not a very impacted major (not as much as comm at UCLA, anyway, hahaha - but that’s not saying much). I think you’re stats are good, though your essay topic can come off as a bit cliche. But if you wrote it well, then yay. I’d say 8.5/10 at Cal!

@NCB - I don’t think you’re allowed to finish any pre-req courses during the summer… Do you have TAP by any chance? Because I know they sometimes give special favors to TAP students who have not finished their required courses by Spring. But with that aside, your ECs are incredible. With TAP, I’d say 10/10 UCLA; without, 8/10. 8/10 for Cal, too!

@Bruin - You’re in. You have TAP. Done deal!

Chance pls! for UCLA/UCB

Major: Psychology
UC GPA: 3.88-3.9
Applying to: UCLA/UCB
Prereqs: ALL done
IGETC: ALL done
TAG/TAP: TAP
ECs: Research on helping behavior that was present at a conference. VP of honors club, and a bunch of tiny tidbits. that im too lazy to list…
Essay: 8-9/10 (how does one rate their own essay lol)
Other: im…a male going into psych? lol dunno.

I’d say you’re definitely in at UCLA, with good chances for Berkeley.

edlynly, thanks a bunch for the chance! From what I understand, major requirements are allowed to be completed the summer before entry; however, IGETC is not.

Actually I know this is true for Cal, not 100% sure for LA, though.

I would actually say that everyone that has asked for a chance on this page will be admitted to UCLA/UCB, with the exception of hellostranger for Comm. at UCLA. You still have a shot, but it’s a solid long shot. I think you’ll get into Berkeley for Media Studies though.

@ Dainese: EASY IN at UCLA, and in at Berkeley.

@ NCB: Great EC’s. However, you’ll be missing 2 prereqs (1 for each: UCLA/UCB) by the end of this spring, right? UCLA is normally very strict about this, and UCB is a little bit more lenient. Contrastingly, UCB is a little harder to get into for psych. Overall, I’d say that you’ll probably get into 1 of them, but I worry that those missing prereqs may hurt your chances. Are the prereqs offered at your CCC? Or are they not offered and that’s why you didn’t take them?

@ Bruin: Money. Enjoy UCLA!

Emil,

Thanks for the info and yea, I’ll be missing 1 prereq for each program at the end of spring. I’d be willing to take the last remaining prereq this summer for which ever school I get accepted to (in fact I’ve already signed up for both just to hold a spot); however, as we all know, there is no section to mark down planned summer '10 courses, so these school don’t know.

I couldn’t take the last prereq for Cal anyway, since I’m taking bio this semester and it’s a prereq for physio and/or the other bio courses that are prereq options.

On a sidenote, as a member of the cal starting point program, my mentor made it sound like it wasn’t the end of the world, or even that big of a deal, but DID make it clear that I should get it done during summer since undergrad bio classes at cal are incredibly hard and I wouldn’t be priority for upper division psych classes until I got into the major via prereqs.

Anyway, good luck everyone!

@ NCB: Yeah, I definitely understand that. Taking summer classes is a good idea. I hear they’re actually easier at UCB over summer than in the fall. As for prereqs, it will just depend on how much weight UCB/UCLA attribute to prereq completion. It’s always hard to tell how stringent they are on these sort of things. Which prereq are you missing for UCLA btw? I’m also a psych major, and I’m doing my final prereq (chem) this spring.

Btw what is the Cal Mentorship Program? Is it a program that has current students sort of help pave the way for incoming transfers? If so, I’d definitely like to participate in this if I get in/go to Cal. I wish I had done it when I was applying :p.
