*Official Fall 2010 UC Transfer CHANCE thread*

i’m pretty sure some uc’s accept sophmore transfers (<60 units) though i know cal definitely doesn’t…and of the uc’s that do, they only accept a few…

I will have 67 credits after the spring semester but I took 8 credits of math under calculus (algebra) and a 1 credit seminar that I know won’t transfer. I’m hoping my GPA will help my chances

^ At my JC Pre-Calculus (College Algebra + Trig) is a UC transferable course. I would expect it should count for you as well.

Hey everyone, I would love a chance if at all possible. I’ve asked for chances before, but posted my GPA as a 3.57 (thinking I would receive all A’s this past semester). You guys will probably think I’m making excuses, but regardless I received a B in my sociology class for reasons that are unclear to me. I’m appealing on January 4th, but in case that doesn’t work, here are my stats:

CCC transfer (norcal)
UC GPA: 3.51
Major: Psych for UCLA and Philosophy for Cal
EC’s: volunteered 130 hours at elderly assisted living center. 25 hours tutoring kids.
Essays: solid. #2 essay: explained my first poor semester at my CC.
upward trend is good. I had 1 D my first semester at my CC. since then all A’s and B’s. This past semester I had 5 A’s and 1 B in 18 units.

I would love to go to Cal. UCLA would be great too. I do have TAG’s to UCSD and Davis, but Cal/UCLA are the targets.

Do I have a solid shot at either school?

@mbe16- Obviously in everywhere [strong GPA, good EC’s], with the exception if UCLA, where I still think you’ll be a competitive applicant.

@emilsinclair9- I’m not sure about Berkeley, but your GPA is a bit low for psychology at UCLA. The average admitted psych transfer student at UCLA last year had a 3.70.

Essay: the 1st one was about how I went from a journalism to design major (and how I started making websites for fun when I was 10), the activities I had directly related to design, etc. and the 2nd one was about trying out for the cheer team twice and making it the 3nd time and how that taught me perseverance and not giving up, etc.
ECs: Campus Crusade for Christ, writer and designer for The Express (SCC’s newspaper), cheer team, worked part time as a tutor for the Mac computer lab

I REALLY hope I get in!!! I decided at the last minute to apply. If I had wanted to go there earlier I would’ve worked a lot harder and tried to get into TAG.

@kenhung: you’re pretty much in all of them, especially if you did lots of TAG/TAP programs…with Berkeley, you have a decent chance, but I’m not sure because, well…it’s Berkley. But good luck I hope you get in!!

I got an A in the class, but had to list both the C and the A in my UC Application. I’m not sure whether they will cover the C with the A, or which one they will count, or what. If you have any info on this, please let me know.
Essay: 9/10 (spent a lot of time on it)
Other: Noted that I only applied to UC berkeley for financial and situational reasons and based one of the essays on my love for the school itself.

**Also what do you guys think about my grade trend? I had a 4.0 up until this semester I got a ‘B’ in psychology of abnormal behavior. Also, this is was the first semester I took a full load of classes (16 units). Before this semester I had taken about 6-9 units a semester. (This is technically my first year at CC, I was taking classes during highschool so I was able to finish my units in 1 year instead of 2.)
Anyways, sorry this is so long but if you have any ideas about my situation, please let me know! Thank you!

“Other: Noted that I only applied to UC berkeley for financial and situational reasons and based one of the essays on my love for the school itself.”

Pretty stupid and audacious. I hope you applied to a local cal state.

I believe you are pretty much in, given you can write a great and compelling essay. I hope your essay about “my love for Berkeley” is not corny.

-2 years Candystriper for hospital

bonus points in my book. There are also many other factors. But nothing is a guarantee in this world. I hope when you apply to graduate school you don’t just apply to Harvard.
