Cal poly is prob my number 1.

also three years of intercollegiate athletics

Essay: Decent

I had a C in a 5 unit precalculus class. That brought my GPA WAY down, I would be closer to a 3.7 if it weren’t for that! I got an A in Calculus 1 immediately after that and an A in statistics so hopefully that redeems me. I’m taking Calculus 2 over spring now.

I have a huge uptick in GPA this year, my average GPA in 09’ has been a 3.74

@ audioslavery

Definitely in at UCSD, UCI, UCR
Don’t think its looking too good for UCLA or UCB

ECs: honors program, vp in chapter of phi theta kappa (honors society), worked at subway for 4 or 5 years (been promoted to shift manager), unpaid accounting internship at a software firm, quite a bit of volunteer work with a non-profit committed to rebuilding neighborhoods in war-torn areas (led a side project to send 1,000 pairs of shoes to poor people in Gaza, mostly kids), won a couple of awards senior year of high school through future business leaders of america at the state level (6th in economics, 4th in management decision making, it was through a brand new chapter so had no idea what to expect)
Essay: i’m a rather poor writer so even with a lot of revision i believe they’re just decent at best…

also, i’m a one-year transfer and the first one in my family to go to college

i’m pretty confident in my stats except for the fact that i’m a one-year transfer…i have no idea what effect that has on my chances…whether it helps or hurts…also concerned about the fact that my essays aren’t all that great and they’re given a rather large weight in admissions to haas…

Major: Anthropology
UC GPA: 3.55
Applying to: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI
Prereqs: finished
IGETC: Finished by spring
TAG/TAP: TAG-UCSD

Essay:8/10. talked about my non prof work and how it led me to my interest in Anthro., and my second essay i talked about my upward academic trend and ambition to be my families first college grad.
Other: 1 W. 2 F’s, & 1 D that were repeated and received all A’s in.

@thebigsh0w

No, I’m just mad…

that I didn’t get into Berkeley the first time!

@jbustos - You seem in pretty good condition. Anthro’s not a tough major and from the looks of last year’s statistics, you should be in!

Major: Political Science
UC GPA: 3.92
Applying to: UCSB, UCLA, Cal, UCD
Prereqs: Completed all prereqs with A’s
IGETC: Certified by end of Spring 2010
TAG/TAP: None
ECs: My weak point…honor society member
Essay: Overall pretty good essay.

First choices are UCLA and Cal

bump. i want to see more stats fom ppl i am competing with

UC Inter Campus Transfer
Major: Media Studies and hopefully a minor in Global Poverty and Practices
UC GPA: 3.58
Applying to: Cal
Prereqs: Will finish by spring
IGETC: UC Reciprocity
TAG/TAP: no
ECs: I received internships at two non-profits that both focused on world peace and international relations. I was the officer in my UC’s communication association. Swim instructor at the YMCA. Public speaking coach and competitor. I won numerous awards on regional and national levels at public speaking competitions. Dean’s honors list in Fall 2009.

Essay: I wrote about my passion for traveling and how I want to spread awareness of discrimination and hardship in the world through media. I also described how I became interested in communication, and how I want to utilize my degree through a profession that focuses on international relations. My dream job is to be an international reporter/journalist. The next essay I wrote about how I was deathly afraid of public speaking and then I overcame my fear and became a prominent public speaking competitor.

Other: I know my GPA is average or maybe below the normal UCB applicant, but I’m hoping that the major I applied to has a higher acceptance rate and that my EC’s standout! Also there is so much controversy about inter-campus transfers about whether the acceptance rate is lower or the same. Any advice?

@danet 13 - I think you have a really good chance at Cal and UCLA ( I would say 70% chance or higher?). You are definitely in at UCSB and UCD though! good luck! How is the honor society your weak point?

@hoping4luck…media studies at UCB is what they called a “capped major” meaning HIGHLYYY IMPACTED, the gpa is usually 3.8+ but you never know! good luck!

Sorry for being unclear, I didnt mean the honor society was my weak point, rather, my absence of additional ec’s.

Major: Economics
GPA- 3.94, A’s in every classes except a Calculus class which i got a B
Units- 66 units by end of spring
Pre-Reqs-Finished

Applying to: UCD
Major: Design
G.P.A. 3.06 (iffy, I know…)
EC: writer/designer for college newspaper, writer/designer/editor for high school paper my sr. year, college cheer team, Link Crew Leader in high school, Campus Crusade for Christ Leadership for 1 semester
worked part time for Mac lab (for graphic communication students) for 2 semesters, but had to quit to focus on my studies and get higher grades and learn to manage my time better through my College Success class (which is UC transferrable, and I explained this in the additional comments section upon applying in November)
awards: Won “National Edition” for my book review on myhighschooljournalism.com at my high school newspaper, Graphic Communication Club Scholarship last year

And in my 1st prompt, I wrote about how I started learning HTML and making websites when I was 10 and playing around with Paint Shop Pro as a teenager, then joined the high school newspaper my senior year as a writer, editor, and designer (which was where I learned InDesign) and wanted to pursue journalism and write for my community college newspaper but realized I wanted to pursue graphic design…so I took all these graphic communication classes, worked at the Mac Lab as a tutor (lab for students with graphic comm. classes) and was a designer for the newspaper…

and my 2nd prompt was how I always wanted to try cheerleading and I tried out twice, made it the 2nd time and how that taught me perseverance…

I know I posted this once here already but I really need some input!!!

Also, I heard that Davis does not look at your essays. Is that true? Because I would want them to look at mine!!
