*Official Fall 2010 UC Transfer CHANCE thread*

<p>Alright, I’ll hop in. Yes, this is my second time posting on this thread, but my GPA has changed, and this includes more information (both positive and negative).</p>

<p>Positives:</p>

<ul>
<li>CCC student. Junior transfer for fall 2010.</li>
<li>Major: Philosophy (however in my PS’s I stated that I want to double in psych/phil)</li>
<li>Norcal resident.</li>
<li>GPA: 3.74 (UC-transferrable) 3.76 overall.</li>
<li>Personal Statement: I would say it was solid. probably 8/10.</li>
<li>Upward trend semester by semester comparison: 1.0 (thank god for Academic Renewal…) -> 3.3 -> 3.3 -> 3.7 -> 4.0</li>
<li>E.C.'s include: 120 hours working with elderly at an assisted living center. 25 hours tutoring kids. 3 part-time jobs in the past 2 years.</li>
</ul>

<p>Negatives:</p>

<ul>
<li>I’m young (18) so that may hurt my chances.</li>
<li>Indicated in Personal Statement that I intend to go to med school, and I’m thinking that may hurt my chances because I have none of the requirements done other than the year of English :/.</li>
<li>Put Psych major for every campus except Cal (so that may look fishy).</li>
<li>GED certified (no hs diploma).</li>
</ul>

<p>Please let me know what you guys think! I screwed up horribly in high school, and in my first semester at my CCC, but have been working my hardest since then. It would be pretty amazing to go to my childhood dream school after being a high school dropout just a year and a half ago. (I explained all of this in my second personal statement).</p>

<p>Thanks everyone, and please let me know what my chaces are!</p>

<p>Oops, forgot to mention that I’m trying to gauge my chances for acceptance to Cal above. I have TAG’s with UCSD, Davis, and UCSC.</p>

<p>Major: Architecture (UCLA, UCB), English (UCD, UCSD)
UC GPA: 3.5 (Grade trend: generally went down because I dropped the ball last semester and received almost all B’s)
Applying to: UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCSD
Prereqs: Breadth requirements done; Preparation courses: missing 1/4 of a Architectural Survey requirement, and another is a 4 unit design course (mainly because my school doesn’t offer them at all, and the nearest school that does, offers them on a limited basis). Overall…1 3/4 out of 3 done
IGETC: Completed by Spring 2010
TAG/TAP: TAG for Davis and SD
ECs: ASSC (Student Council) Senator, Arts on Campus Committee (Manages artwork on campus), Budget Awareness Committee (Advertising to raise awareness of the student body of the ongoing budget crisis affecting all CCC’s), Honors Transfer Program, PTK.
Essay: 9/10 (If anything, my essays illustrate genuine character. I have been told that it is very very well written by a classmate, an english professor, and a relative)
Other: First one in the family to attend college.</p>

<p>I guess just rate me on UCB, seeing how for UCLA you would have to see my portfolio.</p>

<p>just want to have some opinions</p>

<p>Major: Computer Science
UC GPA: 3.945
Applying from: CCC
Applying to: All UCs except Merced
Prereqs: Will be done in Spring for LA & SD (3 classes, is that too much ?), may miss 1-2 preqs for others, and miss a lot for CAL (I’ve followed LA’s plan from the start)
IGETC: No
TAG/TAP: No
ECs/Exp: Crap…
Essay: dont know, how can u rate it ? Btw, I think it’s ok. (5 or 6 or 7/10, maybe)</p>

<p>My target is LA or SD, not CAL. I worry most about my EC/exp (almost nothing). Hope I have a chance.</p>

<p>^^ I think you’re gonna get in everywhere</p>

<p>Is CS impacted at Cal, LA, and Davis?</p>

<p>major: environmental toxicology (davis), environmental systems (ucsd)
UC GPA: 3.2
applying to: davis, ucsd
prereqs: done
IGETC: Completed
TAG/TAP: tag for both
ECs: worked at parent’s restaurant
Essay: good</p>

<p>i wonder if just one EC will be enough. i really want to go to ucsd, but bio majors are becoming impacted, and i don’t know if my stats are good enough.</p>

<p>(by the way, i hope i was supposed to click “reply to thread”.)</p>

<p>timetraveler7000, you’re in at both, TAG + transfer agreement GUARANTEE. There’s no way you can’t get in from my understanding so relax.

<p>

</p>

<p>chance me again, my 21st birthday is coming up so be kind(by being brutally honest, I’d rather be discouraged than puffed up)</p>

<p>to: UCI(1st choice), UCSB, UCR,
from: orange coast college
major: Economics
alternative: biz-econ(UCI and UCSB) Biz-admin (UCR)
UC GPA: 3.51+?(not sure how calc2 fills in)
prereqs: for econ and biz-econ, I’m missing Calc4 and java programming(which stopped being offered); all biz admin finished
IGETC: Completed; GE option2 also done if it helps
TAG/TAP: nope
local area: Orange County/Irvine
ECs: worked ~25 hours a week in retail w/ leadership role since 16; church; bodybuilding and cross country; tutored, stuff with red cross, did a little vollunteering w/ underpriveleged kids through work
Essay: solid, concise and polished, 8ish
other: neither parent completed college, W in calc 1 when i was 16, mentioned that I was maturing and stuff, retook for B 2 years alter, took calc 2 failed, retook over summer D, took honors calc 1+2 D, retook honors calc1+2 AND calc2 concurrently, B in honors calc1+2, C in calc2, made note that calculus made me rethink the whole “I’m a genius” mantra I had and how I’m developping study skills. U shaped GPA trend. 3.8 over w/o calc, GPA had been as low as a 2.93 at one point but academic renewal is a blessing</p>

<p>an if you’re so kind
to: CSULB(made it to the final round of admissions)(2nd choice); CSUF(3rd choice)
major: business finance
alternative: econ
GPA: 3.51??
prereqs: finished biz finance prereqs at CSULB not sure about CSUF, missing calc4 and java programming for econ at both
IGETC/GE: Completed; GE option2 also done if it helps
local area: Orange County/LA(good for CSUF and CSULB)
note: don’t say instant in at CSULB, they’re only accepting around 7.7% of people this year, down form 44% last year. it’ll be harder to get into than SLO</p>

<p>major: business econ
UC GPA: 3.39( but have 4Ws which I explained on essay)
applying to: ucsb, uci, ucla, ucsb, ucr
prereqs: done(3 A 1B 1C and doing calculus now)
IGETC: done by spring
TAG/TAP: no
ECs: worked at father’s company for 4 years
Essay: ok</p>

<p>please chance me… I am going crazy checking mails every day and night… thx</p>

<p>admitmejesus- The only one I’de say most likely no to is UCLA (although keep in mind theres always a chance). The average gpa for a UCLA student in biz econ is in the 3.8+ range.</p>

<p>@admitmejesus</p>

<p>Not having calculus done will hurt and what did you get a C in? not a econ class i hope. You can tag most of those colleges the only college i would say you have less than a 10% shot at is UCLA 3.89 average admit on business econ is killer and unless you started microsoft i wouldn’t count on it</p>

<p>@xelink honestly i would say your in for UCI too bad you got a C in calc 2 or you could have tagged but i would say you have above a 70% chance.</p>

<p>How did you do in your econ classes</p>

<p>The java/C++ class allows you to skip their mandatory breath requirements there of a Introduction to computer science class</p>

<p>@peterr86 </p>

<p>I got 2A in micro and macro and A in financial acct. 1B from stat and 1C from managerial acct… </p>

<p>thanks for giving me a advise tho</p>

<p>I got an A in both Econ180 and 185. Had the easiest prof ever, shame he retired. I don’t know if it helps, but I also had a 4 on the AP test for micro econ. Econ always came easy for me, I knew my classes before taking them. Sadly I never tried in any of them, even HS.</p>

<p>here are my prereq grades
Econ 180: A
Econ 185: A
Calc 1:B
Calc2: C(*** hahaa shoddy prof 3rd time around)
Honors Calc 1+2: B(much harder course than calc2)
CS170: not presently offered,m had been in the past not sure how this affects me
Calc3/calc4: not taken
cultural anth:B
Into to psych:B</p>

<p>yes I’m a slacker and got Bs in VERY easy courses which were easy As.</p>

<p>just a heads up, admitmejesus, the accounting courses are required for business majors but not econ.</p>

<p>Major: Econ
UC GPA: 3.15
Applying to: UCSD, UCI, UCSB
Prereqs: No calculus - taking it the summer before transfer
IGETC: Finished by spring
TAG/TAP: no
EC’s: Internship and had a part time job for awhile</p>

<p>Essay: 8/10?</p>

<p>@xelink:</p>

<p>oh yeah, i know about TAG, but it only guarantees you a spot at the UC, not the major or the college.</p>

<p>sorry, i’d chance you back, but i have no idea about econ.</p>

<p>humm, I didn’t know that, well at least I feel a little bit better about not getting tag now… ehh… well I’ll see, I don’t know how much my calculus blunders will affect me and I’m not sure what the budget cutbacks have done or will do. I’m regretting my slacking now, I should’ve had an A in both psych AND anthropology, but I didn’t put for the needed effort, slept in class too much, didn’t study, didn’t do any homework save for bits and pieces last minute. My worth ethic IS improving though… just argh…</p>

<p>well you’ve got all your prereqs and GE knocked out. that’s a huge plus, as is TAG, just wouldn’t know, I always thought TAG meant GG, you’re in you’re done, and TAP was about half of that.</p>

<p>Anyone want to help me out with a chance? I’m still lingering “un-chanced lol” on page 10. Thanks guys :)</p>

<p>Major: History (Cal, UCLA, UCSD)
UC GPA: 3.84
Major GPA: 4.0
