Regarding Penn administration as a transfer, how do situational factors affect admissions? My HS GPA was around 2.7 (I had a job from freshman year - senior year, single mom with three jobs, older brother constantly doing drugs etc.) because of these factors education was a dull focus of mine in regard to my living situation. I never took SAT’s or the ACT but after going to community college I have a 3.96 with honors, scholarships etc. I’m already guaranteed in all of my state schools, but am also interested in Penn as an option. I could not play sports in HS because my single parent was always working nor did I have the option to join clubs / after school activities. If I take the SAT / ACT now, would I possibly have a chance at admission to Penn?

im applyingg, penn is my top choice!

mine:

Research: I really wish I had done some research… :frowning:

Volunteering: 200+ at the “neighbors helping neighbors” foundation, I really enjoyed it! and it was the summer during the time I was processing everything on immigration and whatnot but I still go there from time to times.

Academic: Dean’s list, Won different contests in high school…

I know I don’t have an “overwhelmingly” impressive resume or maybe not even a “little” impressive, but I have considered making a change to my life and take this chance to attend a good school and build my future very well…don’t bother chance me lol I know what everyone is going to say but it is always the right thing to try and fail other than failing to try.

Hey guys,

Quick question for all of you transferring as juniors, do we still need to submit high school records and SAT/ACT results?

Thanks!

Bumpity bump…anyone?

How many people apply as transfer each year usually and how many get in?
How many rec letters are required??

2000
200
2
Lol

Penn has ~5% acceptance rate for Transfers.

According to collegeboard Penn has ~19.5% acceptance rate…

Hm an Adcom told me its 5 percent. Weird.

Yo has anyone tried applying to Wharton yet for transfer? The supplement only offers a B of Sci in Economics as a major when I tried. Also, how substantiated is your 5% acceptance rate claim?

I suppose not very. During an open house someone asked one of the Admissions Department workers who were standing around before everything began taking some questions, and they said 5%. But that doesn’t mean much I guess.

The only degree Wharton offers is a B.S. in Economics

The only undergrad degree offered is BS Econ but there are different majors available including accounting and finance. One can also cross-major/minor among different schools. For instance, a finance major at wharton with a language minor at CAS.

My Stats:
HS: O-Levels-8As (Maths, Economics, Accounting, Business Studies, English, Urdu, Islamiyat, Pak Studies)
AS-Level-4As (Maths, Economics, Accounting, Business Studies) including world distinction in Accounting and a provincial-level distinction for having the highest average in AS. I got a cash prize and certificates for these distinctions from the Uni of Cambridge.
A-Levels-4A*s (Maths, Econ, Acct, BS studies)

Class rank: don’t know
SAT 1 (super-scored): 2230 (800 w, 640 cr, 790 m)
SAT 2: 800 M1, 800 M2, 770 Phy (self-studied for a month, had no previous background of the subject)

College GPA: unsure but expecting a 3.8-3.9 (currently, I am a freshmen)
Current Major: undeclared but I am focused about economics
Current college: Private lac

Extracurriculars (in college): member of several clubs

Volunteer (in college): VITA
My ecs in high school were good but not stellar because my school was very strict abt academics so most of my ecs were out of school. As I am from a very rural town of a developing country, there was not much outside school as well. I am the first person from my city to come to states for college.

Reasons for transferring: I want to attend a business school, there are not much activities at my college that interest me, I want to study accounting.

I have a question.
My current school is in a consortium with UPENN so that I can take a class there. I applied for an accounting class in Wharton and got in. I am really confused about taking it. The class would take a lot of my time as it would involve travelling to Penn twice a week. It covers stuff which I have already done in high school. The more advanced class was not fitting in my schedule so I applied for this class. If I take this class and do well on it, can it help me in the transfer-admission?

Yea I think that would definitly give you a good advantage when applying for business school…

Hey everyone, I’m a freshman about to begin my second semester of community college.

On the Penn website, it states that you need to complete certain classes (calc, stats).

My question is, how long do you have to complete those courses. I just finished stats, but I can’t take calc yet at my CCC without taking trig and an advanced algebra course.

I won’t be able to finish those courses by my junior year. Am I screwed?

Be honest I don’t need things watered down lol

thanks
