***Official Fall 2011 UPENN Transfer Thread***

Okay, Okay. Yeah, I was just wondering. I’m applying to enter as a sophomore for the comm. major. I have a pretty high gpa but the only thing that concerns me is my high school performance. Didn’t do bad, but not up to par with freshman applicants.

Should I be worried if there are things in my portal showing up as “not satisfied” even though I have sent them weeks ago?

@transfer0: I am in the same boat. The stuff that I sent the earliest hasn’t been received/processed yet but the portal says that docs of transfer students would be processed in April after freshmen decisions so don’t worry now.

They’ve finally started sorting through our documents :D

Only thing showing “not satisfied” now is my “school official report”. I sent everything in one packet, though, so I don’t see how that could be missing. Anyone else having this issue?

On the portal main page:

We are also currently processing Transfer application documents. It may take some time for your documents to be processed and your applicant portal document view to be updated. The Office of Admissions will follow up with you directly if your application is missing required documents.

Me too - everything in the same envelope. I’m sure it’s just being processed separately?

This is probably a stupid question, but are calc and stats required regardless of major?

Its not stupid (well 1/4 people wouldn’t say that!)
For some majors it is, and some its not. You have to look at the transfer requirements for the school within Penn you are applying to. It is required for Wharton, “highly encouraged” for SEAS, and not sure about the others.

When do we hear back? I have to send in my deposit for my other school by May 1st!!

From the website:
“Mid-May: Notification of decisions posted online and mailed to transfer applicants.”

I’ve heard of people requesting special accomodation… don’t know if that applies here though. ):

I’m getting frustrated at the lack of updating on the portal. I just want to know that my app is complete so I can actually finish my semester than worry all the time!!

My application has been completely processed. Yay.

same… so excited

To those who have deposits due at other schools before the release of Penn decisions…

I am in the same boat and I contacted an admissions rep at Penn. This is what she said:

“We run into this issue every year, sadly. Since we are not able to release decisions early, my advice is to put a deposit down at the University to which you were accepted. If you are admitted to Penn you can then make the decision to forfeit your deposit, or you can make the choice to attend the school where you put down your initial deposit.”

Hope this helps if anyone is wondering.

I think they’re sorting by what they got most recently and going backwards, because the things I sent last were “satisfied” first. Honestly, Penn is worth the loss of the deposit.

Where is everyone transferring from/where else did you apply? Also, does anyone know whether there is any sort of preference of sophomore transfers or junior transfers? Not that it really matters, just curious.

Everything’s processed !!
Transferring from UWO in Canada. Also applied to Columbia and Hopkins! What about everyone else?
I’m also wondering about the sophomore/junior transfers. If I don’t get in I intend to apply again next year :P

Man, I remember the anxious times I spent on this site last year… sigh… I found out I was accepted as a sophomore transfer on my birthday, May 14. Best birthday present ever… ;)

@Ace6904

Thanks! My major is Linguistics, so it looks like it may not be a problem after all. I looked on the website and couldn’t find any mention of it, but then I kept hearing conflicting information. I’m breathing a little easier now, though.

rh1992,

Thanks for that information. My deposit will be non-refundable, but Penn is definitely worth an extra 150 dollars. I just wish these decisions came out earlier to save me the stress of waiting
