Reasons: my major is math and I am very interested in applied math and statistics. But Vandy does not offer a statistics major nor an applied math major. Moreover, for my secondary major Econ, Vandy does not have a good connection of econ and math. And since I want to start my own enterprise after graduation, Nashville, a small city in the south, cannot provide me with enough international environment and internship/job opportunities.

Financial Aid Needed?:
No

Also I’m applying for Penn, UChicago, Brown, JHU

Hey are you Chinese?
Is Vanderbilt very secluded for Asians? Even racist?

Hey, when it says “Submit SAT scores (if taken).”
How would they know if you took it or not?
Is it on our high school transcripts?

@psiovana Very impressive! Competition between Chinese students are much more fierce since Cornell will compare you with other Chinese applicants instead of Americans or other foreign students. I have a Chinese friend with pretty much the same numbers (SATI2260+II2400+116). But he is applying for engineering school. Btw, why didn’t you apply for cornell for freshman admission?

I have lived in Beijing for 10 years and it is the largest and one of the most internationalized metropolis in the world. However, Nashville is a small southern city compared to the economically developed cities further north. I want large cities actualy. I have asked Cornell and Brown admissiosns and they said that I will be read in with other applicants from Vanderbilt and since I attend college in US, I will be in the same pool as you. The only difference is the FA thing I think. Anyway, good luck guys! Any other advice?

I applied in high school and got rejection…TT

do you guys know how our application will get reviewed? obviously its compared to others applying to the same college, but will we be weighed against other students applying to the same majors? and also to students applying from the same geographical region, or background?

@Chris I know that your major matters in CALS because of the extremely high interest in AEM. However, I’m not sure how it is in the other schools. But I could guess and say that it depends. For example, if a ton of people apply for major A and not many people apply for major B, A would be more competitive. Furthermore, I was talking to someone who transfered a few years ago and he said that region, race, background, etc. matter and can make you stand out. But overall, I will say the most important thing is your stats, essays, experience in your field, level of interest, etc. Yes, Cornell wants a diverse community, but they also want to maintain their high standards.

@psiovana - is Vanderbilt campus racist towards Asians?

No. The reason why I want to leave Vanderbilt is about my major and my career. People are very friendly towards Asians.
