@centwave Send it ASAP is the general consensus haha! But I did the same- haven’t sent it yet because I just finished midterms Friday and need to have my professor’s grade them and sign after break. As admissions officers they must understand how varied everyone’s semesters and schedules are across the country, and well, world. And waiting until the actual midterm grades come out instead of getting an early, but maybe less accurate midterm assessment seems like the better option to me. Good luck!!

Am I the only one who feels like Spring semester is flying by? I guess that’s a good thing!

Greetings,

I am currently a commuting freshman at Stevens Institute of Technology majoring in business & feel that the business program it serves just does not suit me; the only reason I chose to attend Stevens was to make my mother happy by staying at home the first year of college, so it was always obvious to me that I was eventually going to transfer out. I will apply to Cornell AEM for the 2013 Spring Term; before I apply, I will take some extra courses at a local community college for credits

My Statistics:
Race: I am Caucasian male.
SAT: 2170(720 Math, 700 Critical Reading, 750 Writing)
High School GPA: 3.39(I know that it isn’t the best, but I didn’t try the least bit during high school.)
College GPA: 3.6-3.7(Keep in mind that I took 5 classes each semester & will have a total of 34 credits when this semester ends.)
High School Extracurricular Activities: I cannot remember any at the moment.
College Extracurricular Activities: I am a member of the Turkish Club & I believe that I can be the treasurer in the following years if I do stay, so with that in mind, maybe you can make a prediction of what my chances to get accepted for upcoming semesters will be if I can’t get accepted this term.
Background: I don’t come from a very prosperous family or city & my mother’s highest degree of education is from a foreign high school; almost all the students who graduate from the local high school end up attending a community college & I don’t think that anyone in the history of the city attended Cornell, so I am thinking that I might be considered as a minority.
Recommendation Letters: I became close with some professors, so I am sure that I can get some very good recommendation letters from them.
Transfer Essay: I think that I am a good writer & I have started working on my transfer essay about a month ago, so I think that I can catch the admission officer’s attention with it; I will continue to have those at the school’s writing center & other professionals look at it as I am already having them do.

What do you all think my chances of acceptance are? Should I have my hopes high? I don’t know if my statistics are a good match for Cornell AEM, so if you believe that the school & I don’t perfectly match academically, where would you recommend I apply to? I am accepting any recommendations. Thank you for your feedback.

Best Regards,
Ezra

Ezra, I recommend having a backup school if you really can’t stay at your current school. Admission to AEM is very competitive and many students will have a higher college GPA and solid reasons for needing to transfer. Your high school stats will matter less and less the later you apply to Cornell. Another key part of getting into AEM is having all the prereq courses complete before you transfer. AEM is part of CALS so you need a Biology course.

I will take a biology course in the summer along with at most three other courses throughout the summer terms & will intern at an accounting firm; I have reasons for transferring other than the ones said & they will be listed in my transfer essay. Also, English wasn’t my first language & I have dual citizenships, so I can bring diversity to the school. If you could chance me, what percentage of getting will you give me? What business schools would you recommend to be a good fit for me? Thank you for your feedback.

Anyone else for Comp Sci?

Same thing goes for me- definitely didn’t send my midterm report yet- my professors haven’t even graded midterms from this past week- and my status says “application received” They probably take into account that most people won’t have their midterm reports in as early as the other forms. Eh, we’ll see.

@Ezra- You realize we’re all pontificating, right? I broke down and posted my stats a few weeks ago, and have been kicking myself ever since. The truth is: we know as much as you do…very, very little. I have read stats where individuals with 3.4 GPAs have gotten into Cornell, so obviously, with the right package, you can get into CU with a 3.6 GPA. There is one, consistent problem: Too many qualified candidates, not enough “spots.” Save yourself needless worry by focusing on what you can control. I’ll tell you “you have a great chance,” because I know as much as you do and would rather you spend this time hopeful. Definitely apply to a back-up, just to be safe. Keep in mind… students with 4.0 GPAs have been denied admission to Cornell… there are just too many variables.

I’m only telling you all of this because I kicked my ass for weeks after posting my stats and being called a “long-shot,” when, in fact, according to a transfer advisor at CU…I’m not!

Just sharing my experience. Best of luck to you!

I wish the Financial Aid rewards/packages were released earlier. I applied to five schools and the amount of money I’ll be able to receive is one of the biggest factors in ultimately choosing where I go. :(

The message finally appeared in my status online: “Your materials have been received. Your application has been forwarded to the admissions staff for review.”

TOTALLY ANXIOUS RIGHT NOW!!!

i know i might be getting a bit ahead of myself but still.
what are some things that you guys are going to buy when you get accepted?
or how are you guys going to celebrate.
i’m honestly going to go online and purchase Cornell hoodies, sweats, t-shirt, etc ASAP.
let us know how your going to celebrate or what you’re going to do so we can get some ideas and just discuss something else rather than waiting in agony for a letter.

First thing that I am going to buy: A CORNELL T-SHIRT so I can use everywhere I go !!!

well I’ll still be waiting to hear back from the others, but getting drunk beyond any and all recognition is a definite yes. Calling all my Cornell friends is next, and then probly buying some cornell gear. probly buy a gift cart to my letter of rec professors, and then getting drunk again.

hahahaha I like your plan of action @chris can’t say i wouldn’t do the same lmao

guyssss. so i applied to ilr and i kept hearing on CC that ilr doesn’t offer phone interviews anymore.

but i got a voicemail today while i was in class and the transfer counselor wants to have a “pre-phone(?) conversation regarding my application, interests, background.”
sounds like an interview to me…nooo? ehhhhhhh.
nervous nervous.
anyone else get this call?

sorry, i barely know anything about ILR.

guys, hopefully we’ll take part in this next year!

Could anyone chance me?
