Official FALL 2012 Cornell Transfers

Vitakka, someone who applied to CAS has already heard back (was accepted by letter).

Just had my phone interview. It went pretty well. Oh and Ian said that (ILR) applicants should be hearing back in the next week or two.

@vitakka, I believe username098 is a CALS applicant as am I for Biology and Society. We aren’t CAS, i think I would be freaking out even more if I was since their acceptance rate is significantly lower than CALS. You are Biological Sciences right??

@Dreaming42012 Yeah I’m Biological Sciences, which I heard is the hardest major in CALS to transfer into :/. I wasn’t really nervous until this week, and its my spring break, so it’s all I’m really focused on!

Do you know if CALS accepts only a certain number of transfers for each major, or is it major-blind in their admissions? Only reason is that it seems that there is a lot of AEM applicants compared to others.

To anyone who is wondering,

I received my credit evaluation today by email, separate from my acceptance. I also called financial aid yesterday, and they said that the first batch of letters will be coming in the mail next week :)

@vikita and @transfermeow - I posted that letters for CAS wouldn’t go out until the 23rd because 2 different people from the CAS office told me that. However, I got my letter on the 9th (dated the 5th). I’m not sure if most letters are going out the 23rd or if that date was just wrong. Good luck!

yeah, i’m CALS applicant, bio&society. I can’t log into housing. this freaks me out :frowning:
it’s my second time applying to CALS and i guess they don’t like me lol

@Vitakka, to be completely honest with you I don’t really know if CALS only accepts a certain amount of transfers for each major. However, from what I’ve heard it seems they do. I guess it would also make sense if they do that as they might want variety in their college. Plus, the less students in a major might mean they end up paying more for resources to keep the major then they are actually making. These are all my opinion though so don’t take it as fact. Either way, just by applying to bio in CALS you have greatly increased your chances already of getting in so don’t worry too much. The whole Cornell admissions process takes into account many many variables so just know you’ve done your part and now is just a waiting game. I know it sucks…lol…a lot!

What is your secondary major?

@username, don’t say that!!! I’ve read past threads and soo many students have gotten in on their second try, some even on their third! you just never know. What did you put for your secondary major? and are you entering as a junior or sophmore?

haha it’s actually my third time. high school then college. so that’s why i’m so freaking out lol. i submitted application on feb 18 and mid term report on march 29.
I put bio and science for a second major and i’m entering as a junior :)

@Dreaming42012 I didn’t choose a secondary major, mostly because all my interests, primary and secondary, are within the biological sciences haha. I mean, I enjoy almost all disciplines, but with wanting to do biomedical research as a career, it wouldn’t make much sense to major in english lol. Plus, most of my EC’s are biology or medicine related.

What about you?

@username, maybe the third time is the charm  good luck!

@Vitakka, haha yea English wouldn’t make much sense in your case. I am entering as a junior and have LOTS of credits (which really worries me). However, I have taken, aside from all science classes (Bio being the one I love the most), a lot of Antropology, Sociology, and Psychology classes. Therefore, I put Development Sociology as my secondary since I felt like it was also a fit for me and I meet all the requirements for that major as well. Although, Im really hoping that if I get in, that I get into the Biology & Society major. Have you been able to login into housing at all?

haha thanks. I really hope we both get in!!
i wanted to put my second choice as chemistry, but CALS doesn’t have chemistry major :(

@Dreaming42012 No I haven’t. Although I live 2 hours away from Ithaca, so my decision letter may reach me first. That happened with my second choice; they had an applicant portal that told you what step of the process your application was in, and I received my acceptance letter in the mail when it still said they were reviewing it lol.

The wait is killing me though! My anxiety is making me unproductive.

everyone freaking out needs to chill… They do rolling admission, remember?
My friend who transferred last year got his letter dated May 5. Don’t know what school he was, will check again and let you guys know; but at least for CAS, the admission lady told me that they will send out letters up until early June.

I applied to CALS for AEM. Called admissions and they said decisions are being sent out from now until mid June. Good luck everyone!

just checked with my friend who transferred; he was admitted to CALS by email on May 5, and then got letters and such afterwards.

Dang. I dunno if I can wait untill june… I have to make a decision by may 15 :(

To anyone that has been accepted, what does your status page say when you log in?

No decisions yet, today? :frowning: I’m staring to get skeptical about the whole being able to log into housing thing this year…
