@anyone who apply for CHE, hi, do we have anyone here who are still waiting for the response from CHE? Does anyone know when CHE will sent out their decisions? snail mail only?

@billsiki

I am already in a really good architecture university (top 15) but I’m not satisfied with the focus of my program right now…

my basic stats:
HS gpa: 3.94/4.0
College gpa: 3.8/4.0 (57 credits/ 18 taking)
Midterm report: 4.0/4.0

-nominated to several prizes (college of architecture)
-won 2 prizes
-several international workshops (nominated by the college of architecture)
-work on campus
-involved in some architecture organizations

-4 good letters of recommendation
-strong essays

this is my first time applying to Cornell and Cornell is actually my only option (Cornell or nothing lol) I went to Cornell for my interview on December and I just fell in love with that place…
I haven’t seen the portfolio samples of admitted transfer students… did u? can u give me the link?
I called them last week too and they gave me the same answer: first week of may. The only thing that is keeping me from going insane right now waiting for the decision is that I only have 2 more weeks of class in my current university and I have tons of things to do so I don’t have too much time to think about the decision…
anyway, I hope we can both get in, btw I’ll be a Junior if I get in so if we both get in we are probably going to be in the same class!!

@1991 I am currently out of the US - 30 hours away by plane!!! Ahhhhhhhh.

It also seems like hotel decisions come out in may. This sucks.

@Cornellarch
Your stats seems so strong! I only took an interior design course in my university and a freehand arch drawing off campus - these are my only arch related courses ![]()
How about ur portfolio? Do you have lots of arch designs or stuff like that?
I’m just curious how they evaluate students with arch background and non-arch background. I don’t mind even it would take me 4 or 5 years more to study arch from the beginning. Just hope Cornell let me in.
I have two weeks left too.
I’ll be back to my country after the final week. Hope the decisions come earlier.

I already got my acceptance from CHE, as did many others. They were sent out I believe. Just keep patient. :)

@billsiki

don’t worry about this… my portfolio is heavily concentrated in arch designs and projects but this is because I am already an architecture student so I already took many arch related classes… in your case, I think you would be placed as a first-year architecture student because one of the most important classes in the architecture curriculum is the Studio (called Design, in Cornell), this class we have to take every semester until we graduate and is worth 6 credits, so at the end, this is going to be 1/3 of all your credits in college. Each Design (1-10) class is only offered in each specific term (fall/spring) and you cannot skip any, you have to take them in order from 1 to 10. Since I believe you never took this kind of class you would be automatically placed as a 1st year.
But don’t worry about this, they are going to review your application taking into consideration what you had in college so far… since you are not an arch student yet, they will not look at your portfolio with the same eyes that they will look people with more experience… at the end, what really matters to them is your passion towards architecture !!
and don’t hesitate in starting as a 1st year, if you really like architecture, you are going to like it and besides, Cornell is the best architecture school in the country, it has been 1st in the arch ranking for more than 5 consecutive years I believe, so you will be in good hands !!!

Wait… were you allowed to have more than two letters of recommendation? I thought it asked for two…

Man, if I was allowed to have more than two, I’d be really disappointed. My writing professor wanted to write me a letter of rec, but I had to turn him down (much to my dismay) because I already had two letters from my previous writing professor and my humanities professor.

anyone know when the college of engineering releases decisions? and has anyone who applied to CoE been able to get into housing??

I don’t think sending more than the required number of LORs is a good idea. Marginal LOR will never improve the average quality of your recommendations.

Applying to CAS. I got one good one from my econ professor and another solid one from my IR instructor. then i also got one from a Cornell professor who i met with but i don’t actually know if it’ll help since obviously he hasn’t had me as a student.

Who applying to CAS can log into housing? I still cannot :/

@19910217 I applied to CHE and still have not heard back. You’re not alone. I just faxed them my updated extracurricular activities today. I am really hoping to hear back soon. I will be calling tomorrow to ask if they received my fax.

If I haven’t received a decision yet, could I really send them my updated EC’s? If so, would I just revise that page of the common app and fax it?

I would obviously call them beforehand, but I’m not sure what I’d actually submit.

Plus, there’s the fact that it might not even be worth the effort. The only update since I submitted my app in February is that I’m presenting my research paper at a second conference (was only one at the time of submission) and I joined club rugby.

@EmperorChintz i applied to CoE and I haven’t been able to log into housing yet. Not sure if this trick will work with the engineers though since Cornell seem to choose the engineer later than everyone else…

Hey guys - for those of you who are accepted, has anyone heard back from financial aid?

I’d assume that my LOR are good. My writing professor told me that I was her “best student” of that semester and one of the best ones she’d seen (although she was pretty young, but I doubt they’ll notice that), and I took two classes with my humanities prof (both A’s, and one was in high school), and I had him as my mentor for a research conference. Still, I feel awful about turning down my other prof’s offer, but maybe next year if I don’t get accepted.

@Cornellarch

Thanks for the info! I think I described my passion for arch and Cornell clearly in my essay. I just wrote about my gap year and how it influenced me and how my passion for arch grew gradually. I hope it works.

@star3x8

I emailed the admission office to ask if additional rl is allowed. They just said we re welcomed to send more. And I sent one more last week. I’m applying AAP and the AAPsaid they’ve got my additional rl.

And do you think young teachers’ recommendation letters weigh less than those professors’?

I think you should only send more than 2 recommendations if the third one is not directly related to your classes, e.g. work, internship, or research.

Yeah my third one is from the professor in my previous university in my country. He knew me well but never taught me.

And I’m an international student, I just don’t know if a RL from an old professor is better than the one from an instructor. Does it matter? Anybody can tell me?

Thx

@Vitakka All I did was send a short, two-sentence statement telling them about an internship I will be doing in Haiti this summer. I did not use the original activities sheet from the common app.
