Official FALL 2012 Cornell Transfers

Ah sorry I didn’t include any information with my post. >D

I applied CALS, and received an e-mail today. A package apparently came in the mail two days ago though… I just didn’t check until today.

I’m currently on the West Coast.

@rinata congrats! u did it! it is time to have fun! :-)

Yeah, definitely not alphabetical, probably not by submissions date either. I’m not expecting a call now. Maybe we will hear through the mail Monday.

Congrats Rinata!!! @em I did get my welcome packet last week. I have not, however, received anything about financial aid. How bout you?

ILRgirl… still nothing? me neither… Kinda crazy I thought I had a good chance. 3.95 gpa, decent extra currics. Work 2 jobs. I guess my essays were as bad as I am thinking they were (

Thanks guys! I hope all of you get good news soon : )

@ILRgirl I don’t think it’s by either - alphabetically I’m somewhere near the end and I submItted pretty late.

@lilydrenn: no I haven’t received my packet yet but it’s fair because I originally had my contact address as my permanent address - but no one is going to be there for a while so I asked them to send another one to my current address (I’m away at school) and they said they sent it out last week. I’m excited for it so I check the mail everyday… I’m always disappointed when it’s not there but it’s sort of fun to have something to look forward to.

I hope we find out on Monday. I haven’t heard anything either.

Hey all! I have been stalkerishly creeping on this forum, specifically this thread, for awhile now. I figured that it was about time to bite the bullet and actually register. (Better late than never.)

Anyway, I’m an ILR tansfer applicant for the upcoming fall semester. The stats the majority of the people on here have posted are somewhat disheartening for me, as my personal record is no where near as flawless, especially regarding grades.

I’m gonna go ahead and post them anyway, just becuase. I will explain some of the circumstance regarding them following the list. Without further ado:

HS GPA: 3.1
SAT: 2290/2400 [Not Submitted]
1490/1600

College GPA:
Semester 1: 4.0
Semester 2: 2.6
Semester 3: N/A (Currently around 3.5)

EC’s:
International Science Fair Finalist; Special Award Winner
Local and Regional Science Fair Grand Champion
Captain & Regional Award Winning NYS Mock Trial Attorney
Captain of 3 Varisty Sports
Local TV Game Show Quiz Team
Drama Club President
Key Club President
Peer Leader President
** This List Goes On Forever**

Work Experience:

Department of Homeland Security Private Contract; Malware Analyst/Server Administrator [Age 17-18]

Local Hospital; Information Technology Department: System Support Specialist/Overnight Server Administrator [Age 18-19]

Volkswagen of America Sales Associate [Age 17]

** Various Other Small Jobs Since Age 15**

Essays: Think that I did relatively well. I talked about the intersection between cyber law and cyber workplace protocols, as well as my career aspirations and prior workplace experiences.

Those lists are much, much longer. I included what I thought was most the relevant/impresive. The major demerit is the second semester of college career. I was carrying a 4.0, but had to miss several finals (none of which I was allowed to make-up) because of a freak family situation that has since been resolved. I explained this in detil to Ian, who encouraged me to apply anyway.

I hope that there is nothing that I forgot. Also, I called ILR yesterday just to check. The woman who answered the phone informed me that my application was still under review. I submitted fairly close to the due date, so I’m not sure if that’s the truth or a generic answer. Hopefully I won’t have to wait long to find out!

I wish everyone else the very best of luck! Now get to chastising me for my poor grades and reminding me of anything that I have forgotten! :)

Also, sorry to thread jack!

@JKoby123 don’t worry about the missed finals. Your extra curriculars are impressive and I think you have a really good chance. Let’s hope for some good news soon!

@JKoby I think you have a great chance. You seem like a well-rounded applicant with a competitive resume. Things happen in life we cannot prepare for. That you pulled it together the next semester shows you’re not going to jump off a bridge if life throws challenges your way. I can relate to feeling discouraged, but stay hopeful! We’re all pulling for you!

@Em you’re going to love it! Hope you get it soon!!!

@19910217 Mine didn’t update today either. And congrats rinata!

Anyone knows when CAS decisions are out? Super nervous!

@Emancipate - I’ve been able to log in to housing since last night but I still didn’t get a letter. And I’m in CAS… I hope this means I can get in, but either way I think this means we’ll get our decisions soon!

@clinteastwood

Thank you for the kind words! We’ll see!

@LilyDrenn

Thank you as well! Your post made me laugh quite hard, but I’m not sure that you intentionally meant it to. Your point is valid; and a great angle for future reference for me! :)

Anyway, I chuckled at your hyperbole becuase of Cornell’s suicide rate. All of my friends continually joke about how the work load will drive me to “jump off a bridge” as is, unfortuneately, relatively customary for Cornel students to do, apparently.

It’s actually really sad, and more than likely not directly correlated to University life, but you can see how, in context, your comment was humorous.

What a great second post. Laughing at dead kids. #sarcasm

@JKoby HAHAHAH!!! YES!!! I’m so glad you got that- lately I’ve been doubting my ability plant a pun… =)

You know, I have heard that this is only a myth. We’ll have to do some research on the student to jumper ratio.

As for your stats, I was concerned about my GPA too. Ian told me something similar, that I should apply anyway. I think he knows what they’re looking for, and I doubt he would instruct you to apply if he didn’t think you were a competitive applicant. Plus, you have a great sense of humor… that has to count for something!

@JKoby you seem like a great applicant! I wouldn’t worry about one semester gone bad… I had one as well. You seem, from your stats, really specialized and motivated towards IT stuff and any sort of consistent ambition like that is a really strong characteristic to have. I wish you the best of luck and hope to see you up at ILR!

@Lily I joined the transfer group and see that you are in Binghamton! I go to BU - small world!

Yes! Right? You know Aubrey and Emil, right?
