Official FALL 2013 Cornell Transfers Thread

Ahah, definitely. A major one.

Have you applied to any other schools? I guess, Cornell is your top choice?

I didn’t apply to any other schools, Cornell is top and only choice! For many reasons, mainly academic and major wise, along with research opportunities. So my fingers are crossed. April will be a crazy time for me.

Yeah, I see (sorry for making you type this again, I just read your stats on the first page)…Good luck to you!

stanford, harvard, harvey mudd

forgot to mention CalTech and Olin College

So I have my FAFSA and tax return in, but due to my dad moving out I haven’t been able to get my other forms in yet for FA. I have sent all of my application papers in, though. Do you think I’m out of luck or will I be ok being a bit late with my info?

I think you’ll be ok, just try to get the remaining documents in ASAP. And if it takes too long, let Fin aid know.

how long it take you guys to get an ID # from them? the next 5-8 weeks are going to feel like forever…

Hey, so I applied about two or so weeks ago. On the check application status website, only my common app and supplement are checked off. Everything else has been mailed and should have arrived by now, but they are not checked off as received. Should I be concerned?

@Yolocholo, I got my applicant ID exactly 2 days after submission of my common app, supplement, and payment.

@Bathtubgin, I think you should give it some more time.

I think you guys that recently submitted should relax for now, because I am pretty sure that majority of applicants submit in late February, so the admissions office likely has a surge of apps to sift through right now. Plus they contact you if anything is missing.

@bathtubgin If I were you, I would be prepared as though they aren’t going to arrive. Don’t wait and then scramble around. Get everything ready to send again, but give it a couple more days. I’m kind of in the same boat with one of my materials. It’s been about two weeks exactly and I’m completely ready to send it again should it be necessary.

Axlmojo is also correct, though you shouldn’t really be worried yet, do have copies of your materials at hand just in case.

More AEM! You guys are gonna have some tough competition.

Question:

Do you guys think it gives an applicant an advantage if they applied to Cornell for reasons that fulfill a “niche” within ILR?

ILR is obviously a very broad major, but I think a lot of people will be applying for the actual union aspect, as opposed to say the entrepreneurial or statistical aspects as their main focus of study. ILR has to bring in students who want to explore those areas. Do you think that’s a factor at all?

@AxlMojo, none of us are really in a position to make that call, but ILR IS very fit based, so if they were looking for that sort of fit in a student it will definitely help. Will they be looking for that specially over the other niches? Only the adcomms know.

I think there is some what of a misconception about the “rolling admissions process”. I am not sure about other schools, but I know for a fact that ILR’s rolling admissions policy is not what everybody else has described on this thread (spoken to ILR admissions director on numerous occasions). In regards to submitting your application and documents early, it is only in your best interest because you will have a chance to get your application sent for review sooner. However, that does not mean that you will necessarily get a decision sooner than others or that you have an advantage over a hypothetically similar applicant. In fact, even once your application is sent in for review, no decisions will be made until a vast majority of the applicant pool has been reviewed. The “rolling admissions process” is referring to the process in which applicants are reviewed, not the process of actual decision making.

is there any data out there on what percentage of the contract college’s accepted transfers are GT’s?

Unfortunately there is no such data out there, but I would think CALS accepts a significant amount of GTs (probably greater than 10% at least).

I sent in my application a couple weeks before the deadline, but I’m guessing it won’t be sent for review until I submit my midterm report, correct? I can’t get that filled out until next week; I will most likely be sending it on the 15th.

First, let me complain that I was skipped in adding names to the list. So without further ado,
