Essays: I think I can write good essays, but I don’t think I can explain why I have not completed my prereqs…

Awards: In my school you get awards for your participation for the year. I have gotten Bronze and Silver and I am hoping to get Gold in December, but idk if it will even matter by then.

Pre reqs: Not completed ): i will finish all of the computer science courses I need to take and I will get up to Calc 2, however I will be unable to complete physics so that is what I think will hurt my application the most. Also many of the UCs require more math than Calc 2.

Please let me know. I am hoping to get into UCI. It is my first (realistic choice)

This fall I will have finished all prerequisites except for Berkeley, I will be taking my second bio class on spring. IGETC, honors.

Can anyone chance me? I’m really nervous about this. My EC’s are practically non-existent… I just don’t have much free time. I took 15 units my first semester and 20 on my second but my work is really time consuming :/

@Cannon, Yes to UCD. I got in to their public service with a 3.02 (Davis admissions don’t read personal statements, but they look at prereq completion, GPA above 2.9, and IGETC). I don’t know any poli sci majors who got in with less than a 3.8 to Berkeley and UCLA, but I think with your sudden improvement they will take it into consideration and you have a decent chance.I don’t know much about SD because I had no interest there, but overall I think to all schools you’ll def be competitive!

@Megami- Yeah…you’ll be fine. I know 2 people with two diff majors (One Soc and one Poli Sci). The Soc one had no ECs and only had a part time job that was 5 hours a week but a 3.8 overall GPA. the Poli Sci one had a 4.0 with no ECs nor a job. Berkeley and LA care A LOT about GPA and although they say EC and personal statement really matter, I think with a 4.0 they could careless especially when you’re in honors. Goodluck!

GPA: 3.73 (expected to be near 3.9 by spring 2013)
Major: Computer Science
All prereqs completed, although I cannot take the recommended lower division EE and CS classes (no courses articulated at any college near me).

EC:
-5 years as an AV Tech for a local church (upwards of 700 hours of community service)
-Engineering Club
-MESA
-Honor Student
-Tutor for Calculus and Calculus based Physics series.
-Job shadowed engineers from both Chevron and Aera

Hi everyone! I am stressed over transferring for Fall 2013 and wanted to know my chances for several colleges I am applying to.

I am applying to the following colleges as a CCC transfer: UCLA (Business Economics), UCSD (Economics or Economics: Management Science), UC Irvine (Business Economics), UC Davis (Economics).

GPA: 3.90 (I had 1 B in Japanese 3 when I took that class when I was a HS student)
Major GPA so far: 4.0

Extra Curriculars:
Internship at a real estate firm
Tutor in English and other general subjects for middle schoolers and high schoolers
Percussion in band
Piano (8 years)
Officer for a dance club
Varsity member on Badminton Team

Extra Info:
California resident
Other Languages: Vietnamese and Japanese, both at an intermediate level

IGETC and most major pre-reqs will be completed by the end of spring 2013. I will not have Calculus 1C and 1D completed but I will have 1A and 1B (hopefully with at least a B since my weakness is math) completed by the end of Spring 2013. After the summer quarter ends, I’m planning on getting a job and doing volunteer hours. I’m still thinking if I should apply to Berkeley’s business school but I will not have Calculus 1C completed by the end of spring 2013 so I will most likely be rejected immediately since it is now one of their major requirements if I remember correctly. :\ Anyways, let me know what you think! Thank you! All feedback is appreciated.

UCSD, UCSB, UCD SDSU, UCLA, UCB (UCLA & UCB just for fun )

Major: Environmental Science
Overall GPA: 3.2-as of now, 3.4 hopefully after fall semester
Major GPA: 4.0
All GE done

Pre-req: UCSD-all but physics series-not offered at my college
UCSB-All done-TAG
UCD- All but one class
SDSU-All done but one not offered at my school
UCLA+UCB- no idea haha

Upward trend. Mom is an addict, I was living not a not so healthy situation and my grades took a hit. Got out of that situation and grades went from like 2.0 semesters to 4.0 semesters. I got on the Deans honor list for my average of 3.96 this past year which is kinda cool.

EC: Monthly water monitoring with SD coast keepers—a lot of other stuff when I was younger

Work about 10-20 hrs per week

Ucsd is my first choice. Then UCSB, UCD, SDSU

I want to hear from you guys of my chances of getting into UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, Willamette University, NYU, University of Washington, University of Oregon, Boston University, Boston College, or University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Currently attending Sacramento City College, and American River College, as a Political Science Major–may possibly double major into Philosophy or History. I’m a first generation college student.

Current G.P.A: 3.93

I have 2 W’s but I have good reasons for those W’s. The reason for my first W, which I first had in the spring semester, was that I was seriously concerned for my health when I took over 18 units, and had to experience a huge workload. The second W I had was not in the Los Rios District. It was in another district which I attended last summer session. I withdrew from that class due to family emergency.

I’m in the Model United Nations, Honors Club, Phi-Theta-Kappa, Puente Program, and performed in Honors Band.

Extracurriculars: member of Mesa(math, science, engineering) program, math tutor.

I’m not so familiar with the process, so please let me know if im missing something. I’m wondering at this point if my expectations were too high, and so I would definitely appreciate any consolation. Also, for my gpa, it seems 3.6-7 is the highest it would become if I continue to get straight A’s until I TAG next fall. (have been keeping this trend for the past 3 semesters so far and I remain optimistic about that)

Any help would be appreciated… Thank you so much.

Oops, I’m sorry >__< I made a new thread without noticing this one!

Hello! I have a bit of a complicated situation… I am hoping to transfer to UCLA’s East Asian Studies major next year (and minoring in Media Industry if possible), but I wonder if they’ll accept me… By that point I’ll have been in community college for 4.5 years, and during some of the semesters I took a very low load of coursework on account of having to take care of family. I am also worried about how I first was admitted to SJSU and took a semester of coursework there… after deciding that a CSU really wasn’t for me, I transferred to a CCC with intent to transfer from there to a UC, and have been working at it for 3.5 years now.

My GPA is around 3.72. I don’t have very many extracurricular activities besides being Honors Vice President for about a year, involvement in a volunteer organization focused towards promoting Asian American involvement in the media (for a few months), and being on planning committees for large-scale Asian pop culture related events (for 2 years now)… will listing these help me or hurt me on account of my experiences being sporadic? Would it look like I lack dedication?

And in case any of this matters at all, my racial background is Filipino/African American, I’ve just come back from a month’s stay in Japan and visited Korea last year, and I come from a low-income household.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to respond… it’s been really worrying me lately.

Hi guys, I’m looking to transfer next year and wondering what are my chances to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCI, UCD, UCR.

Major: Mechanical Engineer
Junior transfer (started at 4year for 1 semester and finishing up at ccc to transfer)
Cumulative GPA: 3.88 (one B in a non-major related class. A’s in all my major classes).

IGETC: not finished / not recommended by uc rep. will reach my unit limit if i do.
Pre-requisite completion:
-I will have completed all pre-reqs by spring for for UCB, UCLA, UCSD.
-I will be missing 2 pre-reqs for UCI (CADD & Circuits)
-I will be missing 1 pre-reqs for UCD and UCSB (Circuits)

Extracurriculars/Personal Qualities: not much at all

Is there anything else I should do or explore in order to increase my chances of gaining admission (work…etc)? Thanks for any advice best of luck to you all too!

OOS 4-year but a California resident
All pre-reqs done except for 1 semester of English composition.
Intended major/school: economics/UC Davis
College GPA: 3.7
I will have 78 credits after the fall semester, from AP scores: Euro/US/Gov/Microecon/Stats/English and in college I will have taken 15 units of Chinese, 3 of sociology, 8 of chemistry, 8 of biology, 9 of economics, 3 of psychology, 3 of communications, and 4 of calculus.
EC’s include involvement in a community service, pharmacy club at about 2 hours a week and a part time job at a Senior Center at about 15 hours a week.

Hi guys, I will be applying to just UC Davis this fall under regular admissions. Any insight will be appreciated!

Major: Biological Science
GPA: Overall (3.366) Major( 3.00) I know…too late…
Status: Junior transfer from a local CC
Pre-reqs: will have IGETC done , but major preparation will be completed without 2nd semester of O-chem x_x

extracurriculars: I haven’t done any activities at my CC in the last year, but I have volunteering and other stuff from my high school years…if that counts. I am hoping to grab a volunteering position at a local hospital soon, though.

note: I can’t do a TAG because I did not fulfill the math requirement since I decided to take the physics series last year instead of calculus. -_-

For Davis I will be doing a Tag so shouldnt be a problem there. For UCLA im in the honors program and will be doing a TAP there.
I already have 60 quarter units with most of my major prep done with only the calc sequence remaining, but I will be done with that by spring. I will also be done with IGETC by spring and should be able to get my certification.

Extracurriculars: I worked during my first year at CC and while working I got a certificate in sales from apple. I will also most likely be doing student gov before applications go out and I am helping one of my friends create a clothing company and if we make any money it will be going to charity.

^Will you start the Cal sequence this Fall (or have you already)? UCLA and Berkeley won’t be easy, as Economics is impacted at both. However, it’s more likely than not you will be admitted with your GPA. I would try to bring it up a bit this Fall if possible though.

For LA they want calc 1A and 1B so i ll be taking Precalc 3 this fall and 1A and 1B in winter and spring. I think berkley wants 1C also so Im pretty sure I ll jst get a flat out rejection, but to be honest what I really want is LA.
