^ I have a question: if we look at the general transfer admission rate, which UC is much more difficult to get into, UCD, UCI or UCSB?

@ tcccom: UCI is generally believed to be tougher than UCD and UCSB. However, in recent years, UCI has dropped below UCD and UCSB in rankings. Considering my situation last year, I got accepted to UCD and UCSB in the first rounds. I was waitlisted for UCI but was accepted eventually. That might have been because I didn’t have calc though.

@idizzle thanks! Do you know about the rate of being admitted as Econ major? which one may be tougher to get into? So far, UCI has begun to send out rejections to applicants. my decision is still pending at UCSB. Sigh, really a torture.

@ tcccom: I’m not sure about that but the general consensus is that econ is a popular major so I assume that admitted GPAs are significantly higher. I would say UCI econ would be tougher? My sister got accepted to UCR and UCSD for econ so far but hasn’t heard from UCI, SC or SB yet.

I’ve been meaning to post in this thread but I only signed up today when I received notification that at least one of my choices accepted me.

Schools Applied: UCI, UCB, UCLA (and UCSD but I received notification I was accepted there today)
GPA: 3.84
Major: Chemical Engineering
Transferring from CCC (Irvine Valley College)
TAG for UCI
Requirements: Second English in progress, as well as my final two physics courses and my multivariable calc course. All other prerequisites have been completed.
IGETC: No, still have some arts and humanities that haven’t been taken
Work: Not now, as I was laid off two years ago and haven’t been able to find work since, but I do have over five years of full time work experience.
ECs: None
Essay: I didn’t have much to write about relevant experience other than general working experience I may have had, but my first essay I explained in detail my work experience and past academic career.
Past: I was a low performing high school student and originally dropped out of community college in 2006 because of bad grades while having to work full time to support myself as I have no family to rely on. Worked full time at a law firm as a legal assistant before being laid off as mentioned above and deciding to go back to school. The subpar grades were replaced, minus two Bs that I was unable to retake. Otherwise, I’ve had a solid 4.0 since returning.

Can I get chanced please?
I applied for UCI and UCLA.
GPA: 3.84 UC GPA, 4.0 CC GPA (I took 9 UC units of summer school)
Major: Political science
Transferring from: UCSB
Requirements: Everything finished
ECs: Co-captain/founder of an academic team, on Associated Students (Student Government), and a variety of things in high school (varsity Lacrosse team for 3 years, marching band section leader for 4 yrs, jazz band, taekwondo for 8 yrs, CSF, training in classical guitar for 7+ yrs)
Addt’l info: I had slip up winter quarter of 2011, so that’s why my GPA dropped from 4.0 to 3.84. Every other quarter, I’ve had straight A’s and a lot of A+s.

How are my chances looking? I really am hoping for UCI!

@tcccom

From my experience at UCSB taking a couple econ classes, I can say that our econ department is extremely competitive. We have plenty of “weeding-out” classes and Econ is one of the more popular majors (and probably one of the most notoriously-difficult majors) when people come into SB, but then /most/ people end up changing majors because they can’t keep up the pre-major GPA to transfer to a full-major status. I don’t know if UCI has a pre-major Econ, and if it doesn’t then I’m going to assume that UCSB’s econ department will probably be a little tougher to get into since it’s really impacted.

New to CC!!

Would anyone mind chancing me? I am so nervous!

I just mostly worried about my chances due to my GPA…

@ TransferDK: I don’t think Cal or UCLA is realistic. Especially since Communications is one of the most impacted majors at UCLA. Average GPA for communications at UCLA is a 3.94. You shouldn’t be too far off for UC Davis. SDSU or UCSD?

edit Oh, I did not see that you had TAG for Davis. Davis’ TAG requirement was a 3.2 correct?

Yup, a tag to Davis.

Also since I applied to majors that are non-impacted for UCLA and Cal, would I have a better chance?

-Asian American Studies-

@ TransferDK: Didn’t you say you only applied as Asian American Studies for Cal only?

I had a TAP agreement with UCLA, so I had the chance to apply a second major (which I picked Asian American Studies).

@ TransferDK: Oh yes, sorry I did not see that. Yeah it will give you an edge. My brother, who also transferred to UCLA had a 3.78 and was TAP certified. He got rejected for Psychology but got accepted as his alternate. Good luck!

avg admitted GPA for Asian American Studies was 3.41
