*Official Fall 2013 UC Transfer CHANCE thread*

Ya I havent gotten a B in math yet including the precalc sequence and a stats class I took, hopefully they see the pattern and assume it will continue :)

I hope so too. Try to bring your GPA up a bit to come off of the borderline. Good luck. :)

Hey guys just wanna know my chances

Major: Art History
Gpa: 3.79
Schools: UCLA, UC Berkley, UCI, UCSB
third semester in college

I will be done with the IGETC and all my pre-reqs by spring 2013

Extracurriculars: dont have any for college cuz i worked ever since graduating at Gap but for high school i have Art club, Volleyball for two years, Manager and book keeper for Varsity basketball for two years, Photographer for Varsity soccer, Journalist and editor for high school paper, tutored in math, participated in cultural activities

thanks

^I’d say your in at all if you have all of your pre-reqs done.

At this point of the 21 people that asked to be chanced only 9 have gotten some form of a response. I just find that a bit funny. Maybe a better name for the post could have been, “List your stats”

Senior transfer. Looked into it. Unlikely but possible at the schools I’m applying to. Applying from Cal Poly Pomona.

Major: Statistics, School: UCD
Major: Applied Math, Schools: UCI, UCR
Alternates: Physics for UCD, Physics for UCI, no idea for UCR

CC GPA: 3.1
CSU GPA estimate for Fall '12: 4.0
When they see my app: 3.2
Prereq’s completed. Upper-division coursework as well will be completed.
EC’s: Physics Club, Rocket Club, Society of Physics Students, Kappa Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honors Society if I list the most recent ones. I was in the National Honors Society in high school and was also in the Civil Air Patrol. I don’t really want to list that I was in Alpha Gamma Sigma an honors society for CC students as it’s not really relevant. I’ve been a tutor as well for statistics, pre-cal, and Calc III.
Awards: Introduction to Mathematical Thinking Statement of Accomplishment (with Distinction), Mathematical Biostatistics Boot Camp Statement of Accomplishment (with distinction), Honors Graduate (from high school), The Kern County Regional Occupational Certificate for Virtual Enterprise or Orientation Flight (certificate for my first “official” time flying a plane). Not sure which one for the last two to put on my app.

First-generation student.

Order of preference for me: UCD > UCR = UCI. I don’t really care where I end up as long as it’s one of these three. There aren’t any research opportunities for me here.

Might as well throw my stats up from my previous thread

UC GPA (currently 3.71) anticipating: 3.8
Units: 86-88 transferrable
UCs applying to: UCSB(Microbio 9/12), UCSD(Microbio 6/12), UCB(Mol Toxicology 7/11), UCI (Pharm Sci 7/13), Cal Poly- SLO (Microbio) I meet all the premajor requirements or required pre-reqs
Current institution: Rutgers University
Ca resident: Yes
ECs: Founding member of a club at CCC and ended as president, Tranfer Mentor at Rutgers: minor academic advising to new transfer students along with tons of leadership activities, volunteering at a hospital, maybe more and shadowing 40-80 hrs over winter break (Don’t think anyone but UCB looks at the ECs).

I worked a ton more than I orginally thought (24-36 hrs a week) for about 3 years last year and half was at a 12/hr+ paying property management job.

Sharp upward GPA trend as well 3.4>2.5>3.6>3.8>4.0>4.0

little more background: CCC for 2.5 years Rutgers for .5(completed) going to be here for another year.

Went from CCC to RU looking to go back
I have 9/12 done for UCSB’s Microbio program, missing the other half of orgo and a semester of calc and the biochemistry unit, that is my first choice hands down.

Major: Economics
Schools: UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UCSB
GPA: 4.0
Units: 60 by end of Spring.
Prereqs: All completed by end of Spring.
ECs: Secretary of the Business Club, work-study as a math tutor (trig, algebra, calc), Phi Theta Kappa, English Department Award.

Question: If I wanted to apply to UCSB as a Math/Econ major, would I still have a shot at it without having taken Linear Algebra and DiffEQ? I will have taken the entire Calculus sequence. If that’s not a likely shot, can I apply for Economics as an alternate major? Just curious if anyone has had experience with this.

UC-UC Transfer.

I want to transfer to UCI from UCD. 3.4 UC GPA as a biological sciences major.
However, I failed 2 CC GE summer courses due to family loss. I will be retaking one during the fall to alleviate my bad grade. Prerequisites done by summer 2013. GEs will be done too. Will be improving GPA fall quarter.

Major: Computer engineering
Schools: UCI, UCD, UCSD, UCR, UCSC (also CSUs: SJSU, CSUF, CSUN, CSULA)

I used to attend Cal Poly Pomona but was academically disqualified because I had a 1.4. At the time, my family was going through major issues and I started hanging out with the wrong crowd as a temporary solution. I worked within a company for 9 years (40-50 hrs a week) to move out and was promoted from their lowest position to assistant manager. I also worked on a educational game project to help write the coding for the program. It was recently bought by an investor and they have given us a new project to begin. For the last 3 years I went back to a community college and started with the 1.4 from Cal Poly, but I raised it to a 3.0 with repeated courses (Cal Poly doesn’t do academic renewals for non-students). Im currently taking 21.5 units this semester and hope to increase my GPA between 3.1-3.2 after.

Prereqs: I would have completed all of math by this semester, physics by spring semester, and would be missing 2 or 3 (depending on the UC) computational courses out of 6 or 7.

IGETC: completed
CSU Breadth: completed

Without the first time round at Cal Poly, what’s your GPA?

(Also, the way your school calculates your GPA doesn’t really matter. Everyone is evaluated on the same scale, with F’s counting in your GPA, or not counting in your GPA – I’ve worked in a few graduate admissions offices, and we always recalculated peoples GPA’s)

Chandra:
Without Cal Poly’s grades, I have between 3.4-3.5. Im also taking 21.5 units this semester that I expect to do well in. I will also be taking 12 units in winter and another 22 units in spring.

Hey guys, I’m a CCC transfer student I want to transfer to UCI or UCSB or UCSD
I applied out last fall with a 3.0 I am a philosophy major and I didn’t get into any schools but I got waitlisted to UCI and they ended up rejecting me. I think I got waitlisted because I had all the philosphy prerequisites done. So I’m applying out again this fall but now my gpa is a 2.9 and but I have the honors programm this time, I didn’t have that last time I’m applied. I also have 4 W’s I feel like my transcript is such a mess. My mistake was taking hard dental school prereqs at the same time as all my other classes because I was trying to get things done fast, but I ended up with too many C’s so my gpa is low.
What do you think of my chances of getting into UC’s?
Id die to go to UCLA but that is clearly not an option so i was hoping maybe this time around UCI would let me in? Is there any advice you have for my application
I’m really dissappointed, this was not how it was supposed to play out. Anything would be great! Thanks for reading :)

2.9 overall after fall
Philosophy major gpa 3.0

Applying to UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UCD, UCI, UCSB

Transfer Method: CCC to UC

Major: Biochemistry
Overall GPA: 3.97
Major GPA: 3.93 ( Got a B+ in Calc 1 first semester, was actually my only grade that wasn’t an A)

Pre-reqs: All complete for all colleges, along with IGETC

EC: Shadowed two physicians for quite a while during summer and winter break. MESA officer, treasurer. Part of SETA. About 300+ hours doing community service at local hospital. Internship at said hospital the summer after. Science department award, English department award. Some tutoring for Physics/Calc. There’s some other stuff as well that I can’t recall.

Question, how much will that B+ in Calc 1 hurt me? I’m really terrified that it’ll bring down the entire application since I’ve heard many people say that even getting one B in a pre-req class is the death sentence. However, I did get an A in Calc 2 if that helps.

Please chance me!

^I would assume that you will be accepted to all the UCs.
