@flowflower: 70% overall at all campuses. Your boyfriend’s GPA is low and ECs are non-existent. There is strength in his jobs, but keep your hopes up! This can happen.

@psychislimitless: 55% in at UCSC. Good job on finishing IGETC and pre-reqs. TAG would have been the way to go, then this number would be 95%. Your GPA is your downfall, as are your ECs.

@MBear6795: I would run with a 75% for UCB, and an 80% for all other UCs. Impressive achievements. You seem focused and driven. Your essays seem good. Your negative point in your application is your GPA.

@serrsha: 50% chance for UC’s. To be honest, your friend is a wildcard. She has great certifications, and for hard major like Chemistry, a decent GPA. If she has all her pre-reqs, then her GPA wouldn’t be as big of an issue. The major issue with her application will be her essays and lack of ECs.

@sgm392: I’d go with a 70% for all UC campuses. Your GPA, pre-reqs, and non-leadership ECs will hurt you. Your GPA could be a little higher, and more of you pre-reqs could be better. In addition, your ECs don’t showcase leadership roles. In my opinion, your strength will come from your essays, because otherwise, you seem like a, dare I say, “normal” transfer.

** Again, please feel free to PM me for further questions/explanations. It’s easier that way than me finding your responses in the thread. **

I’m in a weird situation because I grew up in CA, left after high school and spent 3 semesters at an OOS 4 year (though my parents remained CA residents), but ended up coming back to a CCC this spring because of financial reasons. I had applied to UC for the 2013-14 school year before knowing I’d be coming back.

I understand that I’ll be considered an OOS student for admissions, but because I took summer and winter courses during my breaks before, I’ll have 24 credits from CCC by the end of this spring. I have 42 credits from my previous school.

Getting anxious since I haven’t heard back from any schools yet, though that’s nothing I didn’t expect. I know my chances could be hard to predict, but if anyone could possibly chance me or give me an idea of what to expect, that’d be great!

Applied to: UCSC, UCSB, UCI, UCSD, UCLA, UCB
Major: Political Science
GPA: 3.71-3.75 (depending on which classes transfer)
Prereqs: All; though I took College Algebra at the OOS school which should translate to Linear Algebra for the math req, but if not I’m also taking Stats this semester.
Volunteering: Volunteered after school program for inner city kids, also volunteered at soup kitchens
ECs:
HS - Club secretary, yearbook committee, 4 years color guard, also editor at an local independent teen magazine
College - Amnesty International, but I was only a general member
Work exp: ~24 hours a week retail job since college, also had summer job as waitress after high school
Awards: Dean’s List all 3 semesters at OOS college
Essays: Talked about my experiences living alone in NYC (where I was attending college) matured me and broadened perspectives on the world. Those experiences made me want to pursue a career in human rights activism and help change public policy in regards to dealing with poverty on the local scale.

One of my clear weaknesses is my major gpa, which is lower than my overall GPA.

Please chance me for UCLA. My major is MCDB
Gpa: 3.68
Prereqs: All completed by spring. They recommend for us to take Ochem 2 however I didn’t have time to take it.
Extracurriculars: I think I’m strong in this section
Personal Statements: well written

Please let me know what you think my chances are.
I’m on the border for the average admitted gpa last year.

@nxtlvl: Your stats look good. However, if you are being considered as an OOS you may have some difficulty. Did you make sure that all of your classes from the OOS transfer into the UC system? I find it strange that you haven’t heard anything from SC, SB and Irvine yet. Have you checked for discrepancies regarding classes that transfer over?

@ Novalord: I’m not too sure about SB but generally its safer to be at or above the TAG requirement if you didn’t sign up for TAG. The TAG requirement for Riverside was a 3.0 but the TAG requirement for SB is a 3.2.

@ BioToUcla: You should have a pretty good chance. Since the “avg” admitted GPA is just that, the average. So there will be some admitted with a lower GPA than yourself. This is where your PS will make the difference. My GPA when I was accepted was towards the lower end of the average but I think my upward grade trend, being a non-traditional student, and life exploits in my PS helped me a lot.

UCD-UCLA transfer hopeful.
GPA: 3.63 as of Fall 2012
Major: MicroBio
Pre-req: completed by Spring 2013 (including recommended course with the exception of 3rd quarter of ochem which will be done by SS1)
GE completed by Spring
I’m worried about my essays though… What is my chance?

What are my chances at UCLA?
GPA: 3.85
Major: Sociology
Finished Pre-Reqs
Finished UC Requirements
Extra Curriculars: Strong
I am in the TAP program

What are my chances at UCR from a california cc?
GPA: 3.1
Major: Biology
Transfering
finished 3/5 long term pre reqs
Finished IGETC
lot of extra curriculars
strong upward trend on my transcript (went from c’s to A’s)
Went on a campus tour to ucr

@ccgreen032: You have a good chance as well.

@damiansevren: If you look above at post #609, novalord said has already been accepted to Riverside and SC for bio and also has a 3.1 GPA. I find it very strange that its April already and you haven’t received anything from Riverside, since they release their decisions early on.

@iDizzle I know ive talked with him! And he has a 3.01 actually. I have not gotten a single acceptance yet its freaking me out , but i havent gotten any rejections yet either. Im going to try calling ucr and see whats going on

@ damiansevren: That’s odd, you’re gpa is actually a bit higher than. Actually, only UCLA and CAL take the “holistic” approach and actually read your personal statements and use them in admission decisions. The other UC’s don’t read the essay unless for scholarship etc. purposes or like novalord said, as a tie breaker once admission spots start to decrease.

Also, I think novalord has one more prereq done than you do. That may have something to do with it but I don’t think its a huge deal. I got into SB with only 1/4 prereqs done. I was not actively taking SB’s prereqs and had that 1 prereq(statistics) done by coincidence. So missing prereqs will not kill you. Just wait it out and see. Good luck!

Okay then im def calling. The only other thing that could be the problem is that there was an error on my transcript. But i sent ucr my unnoffical (they asked for it) to fix it up and even went on a tour there and told them my problem, and in the academic update I pointed out the error as well.

Many UCR decisions are not out yet. I have a 3.17 and have not gotten a decision yet. I just got an e-mail yesterday saying they were reviewing my application and to explain a gap in my record. However, I have been accepted at UCSC already.

@ damiansevren: Oh okay, you should be fine I think. If there were discrepancies on your transcript, waiting longer than usual is normal. If I remember correctly, you don’t submit transcripts until you get accepted and intend to SIR.

@ farizaga: I’m sorry to say that you pretty much have no chance at UCLA or Cal. overall GPA > Major GPA. Avg accepted GPA for UCLA Anthro is a 3.59, and I was rejected from Cal(being significantly higher). UCLA’s overall minimum GPA is a 3.2. I’m a non-traditional student and was also working 50+ hours a week while at CC. I’m pretty sure you will get into UCSC though. Good luck!
