With the application deadline closing in, I thought I'd get this thread started to see who else is applying to transfer to Columbia for next year!

I’m applying to Columbia!
I am currently a freshman at a private university.

Awesome! Nice to finally hear from someone else that’s applying. I’m at a huge public flagship. Which school/major are you applying for?

In on this…

Freshman applying to Columbia College. French Studies major

@KingofSweden, we meet again haha. I’m also applying as a rising sophomore. Debating between a major in biochemistry or neuroscience.

Hey @TheEarlyBird

Best of luck to you. Rising sophomore applicant as well. Did you find Columbia’s writing supplement…thorough enough? haha it was definitely stressful for me. You can never just send in anything; each piece of writing needs to be exemplary, and Columbia definitely presented the greatest challenge.

It’s definitely still a work in progress! I am always the biggest critic of my writing, so I don’t feel that I will ever be 100% satisfied with what I write. But I found that Harvard’s was even more stressful because there was no specified word limit so that just makes me even more paranoid! Haha but the best I can do is succinctly distill myself onto paper and hope they like what they see.

Hi! Currently an international freshman. Applying to CC, and hopefully become a music major. I’m still doing my writing supplement and I swear I’m constantly doubting myself about it :\ good luck to all of us!

Applying to SEAS IEOR from a top 15 LAC.

Do you guys know the acceptance rate for SEAS by any chance? Columbia AO do not post the stat for each school. They only post the overall rate, which was 7% last year.

Schief, I honestly don’t know. I heard it’s around 6-7% overall but they don’t release that kind of stuff.

I’m applying to the college from a Public Ivy. 4.0 GPA in college/2280 SAT. We’ll see what happens in the end. We can send in the application on March 1st itself I’m assuming right?

Good luck to everyone! Do your best and forget the rest!

Hey TransfrApplicant. You should send your app before 11:59pm on January 1st. Which school are you applying to?

You mean 11:59 on March 1st I’m assuming. I’m applying to the College. We’ll see what happens, I wonder how they decide or what factors they take into consideration.

Yes, that is what I meant. I think essays, extracurricular activities, and leadership positions really matter, once you can prove that you can meet the academic challenges. When I applied to colleges, I only had a mediocre HS GPA, and a decent SAT, but I still got in NYU and a couple little ivies. Some of my friends at my high school with better test scores and GPA did not get in the schools, which I was admitted to.

Do you guys know, if your Registrar’s Report is an offline report and it was sent via mail, then you don’t need to invite a Registrar to finish the application right?

I did it anyway.

Application submitted! Ah thank god I can sort of relax now, well for the next couple of days at least. And I had the happy surprise of finding an EXTRA supplemental essay from Columbia that I didn’t see until about 2-3 hours before the deadline!

I noticed that the deadline was extended to March 8th. I wonder why they changed it…

Hmm that’s odd. It still said March 1 on the Common App and they didn’t send out an email notifying us of an extension, but their website indeed says March 8. Does anyone know?

Maybe because of the latest snow storms…could have slowed down mail a bit. That is the ony thing I can think of.
