Official Fall 2015 Brown Transfer Thread

When I visited Brown, I got a very different impression. She seemed skeptical that I could have my 2 years of credits transfer. But also important to remember that they won’t accept the same AP scores your first college did. I have credits for an internship that I know isn’t going to transfer too. It’s a bummer ((if the gov wants us to go to CC, they need to really regulate credit systems through the country’s colleges. that’s a pipe dream though))

I don’t think so. Georgetown sent me an email this week saying they started my application and they haven’t received my transcript. If that’s the case I think I’ll hear back sooner than Brown

I got a call from the admissions office on thursday to send in my midterm report, which I actually sent in a couple days before. I hope that means I have good chance :confused:

wow. so I’m on the quarter system, which means when semester system colleges have midterm grades, our final transcripts for the quarter have already come out. that’s why I sent in my second transcript instead (which every other school I applied to was fine with), and since I never got contacted about missing documents I wasn’t going to call them. but I just thought, why not, let’s confirm, and called the office today. the lady who spoke to me firstly didn’t even try to check if it had been received and continued to tell me they needed the commonapp midterm report progress grades, and a second transcript with final grades wasn’t “good enough.” she also kept cutting me off when I tried to explain and just told me to send an email to transferapp. sigh. I don’t know how many times I’ll need to explain that I can’t send progress grades when they have been completed. and also, what’s the logic behind saying that the completed grades are somehow not acceptable in comparison to the commonapp report? on the contrary, they’re more legitimate.
sorry about the ranting guys, just had to let it out. let’s brave through the next few weeks T^T

Sorry for your frustrations @jellymuffin , the college application process can be annoyingly strict sometimes. I feel your pain.

@jtranxferman lol thanks! at least everything will be over in three weeks (Y)

So based on last year’s thread, it doesn’t mean anything if I can log into student account home & student service?

I think everyone can log in to it but not positive.

does everyone now have a click here option near decision?

@transfer099 Still don’t.

@transfer099 Nope.

@transfer099 I do

@transfer099 I do. But as someone mentioned earlier, I think it just means that they finished reviewing our application, and that’s all.

Btw, when do you guys think the result will be announced? I know it’s some time around mid-May, but any inference from past several years?

I applied for a big financial aid and Brown is need-aware for transfer students, so I gotta keep my hope low… But best of luck, y’all!

@transferringbud Decisions will be made by May 15 according to their website.

@Collegeyadayada Saying by mid-May and by May 15th is pretty much similar, so I wasn’t asking for that. I already checked the website before I even submit the app, as good applicants should do. I was asking for the inference from the past years. For example, U Chicago gave out the result on May 7th last year, but the deadline was March 3rd, so people are hoping for May 4th, although the school only said “in early May”. Of course, the date will vary and no inference will be accurate. But I still like doing it while I wait.

Also, I didn’t see anywhere on their website saying May 15 on Brown website, while most other schools say “by May 15” I only saw them saying “mid-May”: https://www.brown.edu/admission/undergraduate/apply/transfer-applicants (I don’t know if it’s okay to link a website…If not, I’ll delete it)

Also, this page says early May: https://www.brown.edu/admission/undergraduate/what-deadline-submitting-my-transfer-application-and-when-will-i-find-out-decision

Can you direct me to the page where it says May 15?

@transferringbud Nothing official on May 15th as far as I know (besides the convention), but last year’s decisions came out on Thursday the 15th.

@timidnotion That’s great to know. Thanks a lot for the info!

@transferringbud

Last year it was may 14-15. It’ll be about the same this year.

http://www.brown.edu/admission/undergraduate/

"Transfer Decisions Available Mid-May
Transfer decisions will be available online by May 15. You will be notified via email when your decision is available. Please make sure you can successfully log in to selfservice.brown.edu before then. "

Also, not to be a downer, but getting in while applying for financial aid is VERY unlikely. I had a family member who transferred in applying for aid and he was literally one of two transfer students who got in who had applied for aid. That being said, I’m in the same boat, so best of luck to you.

@collegeyadayada Do you mean applied for aid or applied for FULL aid? I don’t need 100% but I need a fair amount. :confused:

@timidnotion Sadly, I mean students who applied for even partial aid. Unfortunately Brown seems to want transfers who can pay in full. Although, I would like to point out that the year I am referring to was 2013, so it’s possible things may have changed from then. Either way don’t dwell on it too much. Brown is a highly competitive school, and even though it’s hard to get into, one thing is clear. If they want you, they will make an effort to get you regardless of socioeconomic status.

Also, it is possible there could have been a misunderstanding when I was told that (even though I strongly believe it was true) so never trust what someone else has to say unless backed by 100% fact (which this isn’t).
