Official Fall 2015 UCSB Transfer Thread.

Major: Biological Sciences
GPA: 3.65
IGETC: done
TAG: UCI
prereq: Missing botany
EC: volunteer at hospital, UVSA member, Tet Festival at OC Fair
pending on UCI, LA, SD, Berkeley, Davis, SB, Riverside

This is a little off topic, but for my fellow TAG students who are fairly sure of their acceptance, or any other current UCSB students that may fall upon this thread:
How do you all feel about transferring here, although you may not potentially know anyone?
Is it a disaster waiting to happen?

@h95130f‌ You know dude…thats something not only i have thought about, but i’m sure many other transfer students gave a thought as well. In regards to that i just feel that it will be like entering a new school club or becoming part of a new group. Like for instance i really like anime/manga and stuff, so if i entered an anime club that i knew nobody in, it wouldn’t be like it’d be too hard to make friends considering we are all there for the same reason…being that we all like/love anime to some sort of extent. Case and point being that everyone within the club already shares a major common interest…we all love anime. Now in regards to transferring to a UC, all of the transfer students all share the same experience of having to move into a new environment and adapt. Every one of us transfers had to work hard to get to UC and are most likely all willing to make the best of the 2 years at whichever UC we choose to attend. Any way you look at it, we are all hard working, dedicated, and diligent transfer students that have comitted ourselves to academic excellence in order to reach the next level of higher education…these are things that we all share. And that is the main reason why i believe that finding friends will depend on your personality and what type of student you are…because as far as wondering if anybody will have similar interests as you…looking at the bigger picture every transfer is definitely similar.

key note: My brother who attended and graduated from UC Berkeley from high school; knew many transfers during his junior year at berkeley. He told me a few weeks ago that the key to making great friends is to put yourself out there during the 1st couple of weeks since every transfer there will be new and looking to get to know anyone friendly enough. He told me to get involved and join clubs, visit the student center, attend movie nights, etc…basically step outside of your box for the first 2-3 weeks. If you do this i’m sure you’ll meet plenty of kind, cool, and engaging students.

Shitt i typed up an essay huh? well i totally hope it helps you out, and i hope anybody else with similar thoughts can rest easy

@goldencub for any form of GE’s, i satisfy the breadth requirements for ucb, which makes igetc not matter (i think)??? as for igetc, i dont have it done because im trying to do a one-year transfer and also because my major prereqs doesnt fit well into it since they’re all math and computer science related

cries i feel even more depressed now since my dream school is actually ucsd :frowning: oh well, it is what it is… im just hoping they’ll take into account other factors (like essays, extracurriculars) to make my igetc/major prereqs look less bad, but i heard only ucb/ucla/uci reviews hollistically like that.? ahhh i hope i can get all of my classes though, then my prereqs will be complete for most of the schools i applied to

Received a notification from UCSB yesterday asking for my transcripts in order to make a final decision, guess they’re on the fence about me, hopefully its good news. Nothing to worry about right? Does anyone know if this will delay any decision? I was hoping to hear back on Monday. :-/

@friedchips‌ Oh, good. Yes, if you’re following a certain major’s requirements/breadth, you don’t need IGETC. Goodluck!

@h95130f I tagged here. I have a couple of friends who go to UCSB, so me finding friends there shouldn’t be a problem. The main reason why I wanted to go here was because THE CAMPUS IS LITERALLY ON THE BEACH. The fact that this school is pretty highly ranked (#40 on US News Ranking) makes it even better. I’m sure you will find some people who share the same interests as you. Its a very social school, as you might already know.

So nervous for Monday… UCSB is by far my top choice of all the UC’s I applied to, so I’m hoping I’ll hear back from them in a few days!

@FUTUREUCLABRUIN1‌ may i ask which number you called? I would like to switch from Sociology to Econ and Accounting but I’m worried since both se to be impacted at ucsb. I fit the prereqs for Econ and accounting and missing 1 for Sociology.

@Ellie64‌ (805) 893-2881 BUT it was just for information. The admissions office worker told me to send an email stating that I could like to change my major. Here is the link: https://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/contact-us
Under category put “change major”.
Don’t forget to put your application ID# or perm #

Hope I’m helpful.

@FUTUREUCLABRUIN1‌ thank you yes so much help!!

@Ellie64‌ Good luck!

Hey everyone, I’m just joining!

GPA: 3.57, Honors Program
TAG : Yes
IGETC: Completed spring 2015
Pre-requisites: currently completing the last pre-req, all of the other classes are done
Major : Communication
Applied: UCSB, UCSC, UCDavis, UCI
Accepted : Pending

The only thing I’m worried about is I wasn’t able to get into my language class this semester, but I stated on my TAG agreement that I would be taking the language class spring 2015 semester…I’m hoping that doesn’t kill my chances

Good Luck to everyone!

@santacruzchick Although i am strongly rooting for you to get accepted via TAG…i’m not so sure the tag will go through for you. Only because UCSB TAG states that they want for both your math AND english pre-reqs to be done by the end of the fall term in which you apply (in your case fall 2014). So it seems clear as day to me that if that objective isn’t done, your TAG will be void.

However, despite your TAG being unable to go through, you have a really great GPA and combining that with the honors work that you have done i’d say that you are definitely a decent lock to gain admission to UCSB. So if i were you i totally wouldn’t sweat it. From where i’m standing and from all that i know about the wonderful school of UCSB…you’re totally good to go

Btw heres the url to the UCSB 2015 TAG just so you can personally view what i’m telling you about the math and english completion requirements for TAG…but like i said, i strongly feel you’ll still get through.

@kyle2015 I get the sense that she’s talking about a foreign language class, not the required English class for UC transfer eligibility.

@ARandomPerson1 well damn…if thats the case then she can totally ignore my entire post response to her.

It would be weird if she really was talking about a foreign language class since whether or not she has that done has absolutely nothing to do with TAG. If she did everything she needed to do for TAG then the foreign language course is completely irrelevant in regards to TAG. That would be something concerning the completion of IGETC specifically.

So if she is talking about foreign language; then no it does not matter at all when she takes or completes that as far as TAG is concerned.

UC GPA: 3.5 (should be 3.59 after this quarter if it matters)
IGETC: yas
TAG: yas (hopefully goes through without errors)
Major: psychology
Pre-reqs: finishing my last one spring 2015
other schools waiting for: ucsc, ucd, uci, ucsd (other top choice)

nervous, I’m wishing everyone good luck and hope to see you guys there!!

@kyle2015 Haha so I appreciate the detailed response, but yes I was indeed talking about the foreign language requirement. Thank you for the kind words though! I’ve completed my english a while back. What worries me is that I stated I would be taking a foreign language class in spring 2015 on my TAG agreement, with TAG agreements you must complete all of the classes listed right? I know the foreign language class is a UC requirement and has to do with IGETC but I am unsure of how strict UCSB is the TAG agreement. It does state that completion of IGETC is not required for TAG at the bottom so maybe everything will be fine → http://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/docs/default-source/PDFs/ucsb-fall-2015-tag-criteria.pdf?sfvrsn=4

@santacruzchick I’m pretty sure…as a matter of fact i’m 100% sure you will be fine. As long as you’ve completed every major tag requirement listed under the conditions for admission, i’m super positive you’ll be fine. I’ve had some friends i knew change classes from what they told the uc tag agreement, but were still accepted to their school of choice because they completed all the main important agreements that the TAG asked for.

so hopefully it won’t really have an impact on your tag status. And even if they are super strict on it, you not being able to take a language course will not rescind your admission to UCSB since igetc specified classes aren’t needed for transfer to most UCs…but they are recommended haha.

So no. The fact that you did not take a language course this semester honestly shouldn’t even affect your TAG given the simple thought that you completed all other major TAG agreements.

And even if they noticed and decided to void your tag: like i said earlier i highly doubt it will mess with your acceptance to the university since you are already a very strong applicant.

sleep well and don’t forget to post your acceptance here monday!

Hi everyone! Wishing you all the best of luck. Here are my stats.
