I noticed there wasn’t a thread for transfers to Yale so I thought I would start one! the threads for the other schools I applied to have been really helpful in getting info about admissions, so if anyone knows anything please post here! good luck to everyone who applied!
Good luck to you as well @packman012
Finally, I’ve been waiting for someone to make this (instead of just taking the initiative and making it myself) haha. So excited and nervous. Slim chance I’ll make it in but I’m totally aware of that and just ready for the results.
@df0914 oh same, Yale was definitely a reach for me so I do not have my heart set. despite that i want to know so bad
Hi @packman012 and @df0914 ! I’m exactly in the same situation here haha. Just wondering, what are your stats? (I’m an international student and I just discovered these transfer threads lol no idea it existed before so I am pretty curious!)
so glad someone set it up, so far, my best essay is for Yale but I know there are way more awesome applicants out there, so good luck to everyone applying to Yale transfer!
Hey @AFrenchy93 !
I’m a sophomore in a public college honors program.
3.98 GPA out of 4.0 (all A and A+ with 1 A-)
2270 SAT (740 reading, 740 math, 790 writing)
Only 1 SAT II: Math level II (770)
Only 2 APs in high school (Calc AB: 5, Environmental Science: 4) I was kinda lazy in high school, but hopefully they see growth since I’ve taken as many honors level courses in college as I can.
I’ve got a few extra curriculars involving music, service, mentoring, and the LGBTQ+ community (with a couple of leadership positions).
Transferring because my school’s economics department has little to no research opportunities for undergrads and I’ve done all I could to do research but have had no luck–super frustrating tbh.
I’m a white, middle class, gay male. Hoping my sexuality will help my chances lol.
I studied classical music through high school and submitted a vocal music supplement which included one Italian and one German art song. (Hoping this gives me an edge, since I’m assuming the majority of music supplements are for instrumental music and not vocal.)
Also applied to: Brown, Penn, Columbia
And @sayuli5521 same, my Yale supplements were the best essays I’ve ever written for a college application, but I know it’s so tough to get in.
Good luck to you all!
I am a current freshman/rising sophomore at a public school in VA
3.98 GPA first semester (one A- in a freshman seminar class because I had too many absences due to being an athlete and the teacher cut me no slack)
4.0 mid term report
4.2 weighted/3.6 unweighted HS gpa (weakest part of app)
33 ACT
7 AP’s, 5: Calc, Psych, Lit 4: micro econ, macro econ, us gov, us hist
I have a lot of extra curriculars from hs that i included. in college i was on the soccer team and in the honors college
strongest part of my app is definitely my essays. I’m a division 1 soccer player which means i committed to my current university end of my sophomore yr and ive done a lot of growing up since then so my reasons for transferring are very strong and also unique
in addition im from detroit, so my community essay was really strong because i was able to talk about the experience of growing up somewhere that is pretty much looked down on and how difficult it was to adjust in college like going from to detroit to rural VA was almost like a culture shock for me.
good luck to everyone!
Wow, both of your profiles are really strong. I feel like my chances are even smaller than they initially were haha.
Here is a little summary of my stats
I am a French student, currently in my third semester in college (But I will only be able to transfer 2 semesters worth of credit so I guess I am applying as a sophomore)
High school: Highest mention of the French baccalaureat (it is hard to translate that into GPA but it should be 4.00 or higher)
SAT: 1330 (it is pretty low and I was hoping that they would take into account the fact that I am an international and that I actually did well in college)
Extracurriculars:
-Soccer player in professional division 2 (played at the national level)
- In France extracurriculars are not really encouraged. However, I did some volunteering. I also played, taught, and refereed chess at the national level. That is all that comes to my mind right now
College: 4.00 GPA.(Only A+ and A)
- Small rural college in Nebraska. Soccer player.
Working three jobs: Involved in research (biochemistry project funded by the US Department of Defense).
Mathematics teacher assistant
French and chemistry tutor
I also created a French club with the help of a French teacher.
I want to pursue a degree in psychology with an emphasis on neuroscience which is one of the reason I am transferring (I discovered this passion for social sciences in the US, they are not very emphasized in France)
I also believe that my essays will play an important role. I wrote about my own experience with terrorism (My family was directly affected by the November 2015 attack) and the discrimination I still had to face because of my origins and my religion. In my community essay I talked about my two origins (I am biracial) and about people considering these identities as opposite and incompatible and how I managed to fight against the stereotypes through community outreach.
I believe that is everything. Good luck to everyone! I can’t wait for the results.
where else did you all apply? I applied to so many schools, it’s a little embarrassing but i really needed to transfer.
ive only heard from university of michigan and boston u, both were acceptances. I also applied to hopkins, nyu, carnegie melon, tufts, duke, northwestern, u of chicago, boston college, dartmouth, harvard, brown, cornell, and columbia.
I also applied to Penn, Brown and Columbia. Also something I’ve been wondering about: Do you think the addition of 2 new residential colleges at Yale could mean a higher acceptance rate for transfers? I mean I know there’s no way to know for sure, and I can bet that a bunch of the extra spaces have been filled by freshman applicants, but I sure hope it helps out transfers too!
@df0914 i havent heard anything, but I think thats definitely a possibility
I applied to Brown and Penn as well! So nervous right now.
hey @df0914 I also applied to Brown and Penn, super nervous now!
@sayuli5521 Same! I’m like equal parts nervous and excited lol
Did the format of anyone else’s admissions portal change? I just checked 5 minutes ago and it looks totally different than yesterday.
@df0914 I was wondering the same about the new residential colleges. Hopefully there will be more acceptance!
btw, decisions come out may 10th. The admissions committee is still on bull dog days, and have not yet met for transfer applications. Good luck to everyone!
@milkshakezzz thank you! good luck
