Lol thanks!! I was almost in tears, it was really that exciting for me.

Question: If I want to transfer internally into Mccombs next year, should I change my major from economics LA to the school of undergraduate studies? I don’t want to be stuck in liberal arts taking classes relating to economics, when what I really want is mccombs.

I am not really sure about that either. When orientation date did you sign up for?

also how many indicator classes do you have done so far and how many hours do you expect to have by the end of next spring(also include transfer hours)?

I made a thread for my question, hoping it will get more exposure there. I haven’t signed up for a date yet, but I will be paying my deposit later this afternoon. I think i’ll make the June 15 or the July 17th (I think thats the date) one.

So far I only have calculus 1 complete. By spring 2010… I think i’ll have 55 hours. I think I want to take 12 hours each semester, and take classes during the summer.

you don’t have to wait until you pay for choosing orientation date. you can still choose the orientation date right now and then you can pay for it in the afternoon. If your lucky enough, june 15 might still be available.

Oh ok, so 12 hours per semester should be good then, right? It will keep just slightly below 60 hrs and I can take macroecon. I’m just wondering if changing my major to school of undergrad. studies is the best option for me.

I’ll pick orientation soon, I just have to run it by my parents first because they want to include it on our trip to san antonio.

ya im not sure if having all indicator classes finished would help you more even if you have under 60 hours. it’s only required if you have more than 60 hours.
and as far as i know, they just check to see if you meet the requirements and then they set the minimum GPA depending on how many people apply that year and if you have the minimum GPA or over then you are into McCombs internally. Last year it was 3.6. This year i think it might be 3.7.(thats according to some of my friends that go to UT, they might be wrong though because no one will know until after July).
i can PM you this McCombs adviser i talked to a few months ago. He was really good, maybe he can help you answer your questions about changing major to undergrad studies.

and i have no idea about UT housing. i am living off campus most likely west campus.

Hmmm… well since I have to complete the indicator courses, i’m thinking maybe undergrad studies would open me up to those classes and not keep them closed if I was still an econ major.

I talked several different admissions officers at UT regarding McCombs, and indicator classes DO matter. The more you take, the more of an advantage you have. The example that almost all of them gave was this: If a person with a GPA of 3.7 has one more indicator class than a person with a GPA of 4.0, but lacks that indicator class, the 3.7 will have the advantage. Not to mention, the standards for applying to McCombs have changed this spring semester. All students who applied for Fall 2009 will have the ones from before, but for Fall 2010, you need Calc I, Calc II, Micro, and Macro economics. In short, do all your indicator classes. And TMT, did your decision switch to “currently reviewing your application” in a day, then you got accepted? I know I’m guaranteed entry because I’m CAP, but the question is if I made it into McCombs or not. My status before was that they received my transcript, but now it is “currently reviewing your application”. Ugh, this is nerve wracking.

Thanks for the info jyc545. I was planning on getting my indicator classes done anyway, just for good measure.

And to answer your question, yes the day after my transcripts were received my status went to “we are currently reviewing your application” at about 3 or 4 pm, then the next day between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. I was accepted. I know how nerve wracking it is! Good luck!

yes I am waiting on a decision…I am applying for Aerospace Eng

GPA:3.77
Member of The National Astronomy Olympiad Team
previous unievrsity: University of Houston
pretty good resume and a letter of recommendation

Yeah mechanical was my first choice and aerospace was my second. Your GPA is the same as mine (+/- .02), but I did not submit a resume or letter of recomendation. I am starting to think that none of that is necissary because my friend got into McCombs without any of that stuff. He had a very dull application besides his GPA (no community service, ect.) What were your grades in physics and calculus? I got a B in physics mechanics and heat, and two A’s in calculus 1 and 2. Im taking physics light and optics with the same prof I had in the spring for mechanics, Im kinda ****ed because he says he will only give one A (to the highest avg in the class, for mechanics it was an 89.4, mine was an 88.2 or so). I hope that doesnt hurt me.

Yes I got A in cal 1, cal 2 and also in physic mechanics…I don’t know man, it says resume is not required but highly recommended so i hope that helps. I only had one letter of recommendation from my physic/Astronomy teacher which before joining this college confidential I thought it was pretty good but now I see a lot of 4.0s and people have sent 2,3 letter of recommendation…:-s…

Well best of luck to you If anything, your resume and letters of recomendation should put you ontop incase there is something like a tie-breaker. I submitted a letter of rec for A&M (from my chemistry prof since thats a class I can naturally excel in). My letter was sent too late for UT, oh well.
