Official February 2012 ACT Discussion Thread

Oh yeah, I put something about the early railroads not expecting what they are today or something like that.

It was either A or B
This is not verbatim but…

railroads are more confusing than ______

A) it was before
B) railroad companies expected it to be?

i think it was B

I’m pretty sure it’s B.

If that’s the case, I think I put A.

One of the question on english section said:

…a African American photographer, his name…

There was no comma between photographer and name, right?

no comma. I’m sure on this.

Yeah there’s no comma

I put A on the railroad one… dang

I’m not sure if it was B, all I remember is that I put B. It may have actually been A

For me:
English- Pretty moderate as usual. However, my score generally fluctuates depending on how focused I am.
Math- Rather difficult, in my opinion. I made a few silly mistakes, I am almost certain.
Reading- Easy. So, so easy.
Science- Pretty moderate. I don’t foresee anything lower than a 33.

So, score time!

English- pessimistic: 32
- optimistic: 35
Math- pessimistic: 30
- optimistic: 35
Reading- pessimistic: 34
- optimistic: 36
Science- pessimistic: 33
- optimistic: 36

Composite- pessimistic: 32
- optimistic: 36

Quite the gap.

Optimistic:

English: 35
Math: 28
Reading: 35
Science: 28(I normally get 30, but this time it seemed harder)

Pessimistic:

English: 33
math: 26
Reading: 33
Science: 26

When I was leaving the school, I heard lots of kids talking about how hard the science was:(

@Coconutso,

That’s what I think of my score too!
Though my pessimistic ranges from 30~33…

Right after the test, I even thought under 30…
But after I read the answers on the forum, I was like… whew

I came too late from bathroom break.
They would’ve kicked me out if I was ONE more second late because right when I got in it was… “Open your booklet to section 3 and begin”

-__________-

For the first railroad passage question, I kept it how it was. I was also tempted to put “railroad companies expected it to be” or whatever, but it was asking for a good transitory phrase into the rest of the passage, basically, and the passage never really talked about unforeseen change that left the companies baffled, it just talked about the progress it made.
Very ambiguous. I may be wrong, but we won’t know for awhile.

I just realized that I left my ti-83 at the school:( The proctor said that we had to put it on the shelf under our chairs until the test was over. In the state joy I was in that the test was over, I forgot to grab it.

I just went back to the school, but it was closed. Guess I’ll have to go by there Monday.

Is there anybody who can compare this test to the October one instead of the December one? Because I took the October one and this one seemed much easier.

Predictions: 32E, 36M, 28R, 27S, 31 overall
Oh, and btw, I only got a 25 overall on the October one, with my strongest subject, math, being only a 29.

I took the October one (got a 34) and i agree that this one was much easier. The reading section was much more straight-forward, and the science section this time was easier in my opinion (though i am taking biology this year so the passage about alleles was really easy). However, I think the difficulty of the October test caused there to be a friendly curve, especially on science. I dont think the curve will be as friendly this time.

I also put A for the w+x thing.

I just used plug and chug method.

I used: w=1, x=2, y=3, and z=4 and then plugged them in. I got an answer of -40.

Then choice “a” also equaled -40 when I plugged them back in.

optimistic / pessimistic
English = -1 / -5
Math = -0 / -2
Reading = -3 / -6
Science = -4 / -8 (HATE SCIENCE!)
Essay = Not the best content, but it was four maybe five pages long.

optimistic / pessimistic

English = 35 / 31
Math = 36 / 34
Reading = 32 / 30
Science = 32 / 28
Essay = 8 / 10

optimistic / pessimistic

Overall = 33.75 = 34 / 30.75 = 31
Does this seem like an accurate score according to how many I missed?

I’m hoping that curve will be generous.

Does anyone have a definitive answer on the science question where “electrical resistance was directly related to circuit length”?
