Official FLVS Thread

I am creating this thread in the hopes that everyone can add information on FLVS classes, whether it's waiting to be assigned, looking for information on what classes to choose, sharing what you have experienced on FLVS, or what could be added to make FLVS even better. Many other threads tend to focus on one main class or two. This thread is for all who would like to comment about FLVS. Thanks to those who will contribute.

My school only offers 6 APs, I was looking at FLVs to take 1 or 2 APs to get more out of high school junior and senior year. 1 would this be recommended by most of you? 2 will it look good to colleges? 3 what courses would you guys recommend?

Right now I am taking AP Art history, Spanish 2 and AP Macro. AP Art History isn’t to bad, Spanish 2 is very easy, but I am having difficulty with AP Macro grasping the concepts…but then again I’m not the brightest person either.

What I know about AP Environmental Science on FLVS (I’m taking it):

There are 96 “assignments” to be completed. That’s the number of assignments you need to complete to have finished the course. Assignments are akin to homework.

Some of the labs are rather pointless. Labs in general consume an inordinate amount of time.

There are often “collaboration” projects. That’s where you find another student and work on something with them. Bleh.

The teachers actually grade your stuff. Teachers will verify your calculations on labs.

The final exam consists of **300 M/C questions and 33 essays/b.

My advice: Don’t take APES on FLVS. If you really want to take an AP on FLVS, find one that isn’t as time-consuming as FLVS. Some APs on FLVS only have 50 assignments to be completed ;).

Can you name some of the APs with 50 assignments besides AP Macro/Micro?

Consolidated list of assignment numbers on FLVS:

AP Macro/Micro: 50
AP Art: 81
AP Enviro: 96

What is AP Lang like?

AP Lang consists of a lot of reading and essay writing. I haven’t taking it yet though.

Honors Algebra II on FLVS is pretty simple, short assignments and everything is almost always multiple choice :P

I’m thinking about taking AP Calc BC on FLVS during the summer after sophomore year. Anyone taken AP Calc BC on FLVS before?

Oh alright, FLVS needs to offer more APs…

^Yes I think so too. They should offer more language APs, or at least AP Chem and Phys

Agree AimHigh2, its like I can’t find anything left that I’m interested in…

Anyone else who would like to add to the thread?

I am in AP Macro, and its a short course, but the information is tricky to me.

I’ll be a sophomore this year, taking AP Physics B, and I’m thinking of adding extra studying for AP World (I’m taking an honors course) and I don’t know if an extra AP would be too much work. Can anybody tell me anything about these courses?

AP Computer Science
AP Psychology
AP Art History
AP Micro

Bumping so questions can be answered. Anyone out there for the above courses?

AP US Government/Politics has 61 assignments.

What the hell - this is my lab assignment

http://i.min.us/ilGabc.png

^LOL!!!

What class is this is this for :P

^It’s for my AP Environmental class. Did you see my other post on “mining a cookie”?
