Official GA Tech 2014 Regular Decision Discussion

@jerryaeroastro

I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying…they already announced that their acceptance rate was 32%

I thought more people had applied in the RD round than in the EA round, so it would be closer to the RD acceptance rate than to the EA one. I was wrong — forgot to account for all the deferrals.

Accepted - Economics

I think what put me over the top was my Common App essay and my letters of recommendation. I’m so psyched about getting in; my uncle and two older cousins went there, so if I go it’ll be a kind of passing of the torch. Congrats to all the other admitted applicants!

Accepted! OOS!

4.77 weighted GPA, all IB classes
This is one of my dream schools, hopefully they’ll give me enough financial aid I can actually attend!

I think it’s my essay that set me apart. I talked about how I got second at the US national fly fishing championships last yeah and how it changed me as a person. I also connected fly fishing to academics. Kinda interesting and different I guess. I truly believe the admissions office really looked at apps holistically. I had lots of cool ECs.
Never took and SAT II’s
Had a great first semester of senior year. (All grades 95+) with an overall upward trend throughout four years.
6 APs
Congrats to all that got in! Oh, also, did anybody else get offered summer session and have to start June 23 like me?

International.

SAT 2 - Physics 800 Maths IIC 800

Class X - 9.2/10

Class XI - 74% Yikes!

Class XII - 84% (Mid Term)

300+ hours community work, couple of school teams.

I have heard that Gatech is getting more and more selective, and this year’s admit rate has been the lowest yet. Do you think it will be even more lower next year? More importantly, do yall think that the avg SAT/GPA for next year will be even higher?
I will be applying EA next year and I am a little concerned as my extracurriculars are very lackluster. I got a 800M 800W 670CR on the SAT, have a 3.9UW/4.35W GPA, am Asian, and in-state. Do you think I have a good chance of getting in?
Thank you all so much, and congradulations to all that got in!!! (:

@Lanie49: Do not be fooled and only look at admit rate (sure it will go down provided Tech gets more applicants than this year. They will certainly not accept more than the last year) as it doesn’t tell that much outside of how many more apps. they get. Look at the stats. The stats. are indeed kind of increasing each year for the admits (not that much for enrollees). Also, the increases are more so in the OOS students it appears. Given that, I bet your stats., being in-state, should make you competitive.

Waitlisted. 4.3 GPA, 33 ACT, 2200 SAT, 10 AP, significant extracurricular/leadership. In state, white male, ATL suburb, I’m screwed from a diversity standpoint. Trying to find funds to pay OOS tuition for a lesser engineering school. Dissapointed is an understatement.

@searchlife24: No, you got screwed because lots of OOS people applied with ridiculous stats. and you got crowded out. You may have also been yield protected (they likely thought you would get into another selective school with an engineering or top science programs). The fact that in-state Asians got in with similar or lower stats tells you something.

Waitlisted as well. 4.05 GPA, 33 ACT (35 math), 10AP, all others honors, 200+ hours community service, asst. manager at work, debate team, OOS. Accepted my spot and am hoping for the best.

Good luck texasborn - honestly. Those are great stats so don’t be discouraged! I have no concept as to what they Admissions office was looking for this year - hang in there!

waitlisted :(

stats of 35 ACT, 3.75 GPA, and alright EC’s (not too great, not too bad either)

would have loved it if i got in, but i think i’ve already decided that i’m going to my backup school, so it’s all good!

Thought Georgia Tech would be my ‘safety school’. Got a real reality check yesterday. Really happy I was accepted for ChBE now!

Wait listed! Damn ! Got 2320 on SAT , two 800s in subject tests and a 4.0 gpa. I can’t believe it man. I don’t think that a school like georgia tech would waitlist over qualified students. What went wrong???

By the way, I am an international student and couldn’t apply for aid

And topper of my class through out the high school years.

^International. There you have your reason.

Anyone got any idea what the overall class size looks like this year? An email they sent earlier in the week said there will be a record 1,180 females in the class and I’m trying to get an idea of what the ratio is looking like
