Essays (rating 1-10, details):
Essays were pretty strong (9/10?)
I took a simple idea and made it engaging and talked about who I was as a person… I don’t really remember the GU specific essays but I felt pretty strong about them
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):

Teacher Rec #1: 9/10 An amazing writer who handed out very few A’s and I worked really hard to earn one so she liked me and my work ethic
Teacher Rec #2: 8/10 My Calc BC teacher retired and said she wouldn’t write any recs anymore, so I went to my freshman and sophomore math teacher who liked me but didn’t love me so im not quite sure how it went
Counselor Rec: 10/10 She is my class board sponsor so she has known me for 4 years and we’re really close
Additional Rec: I sent a letter from my school’s principal of student activities talking about my role at my high school and in the community

Interview:
REALLY WELL! she really liked me and I really liked her. Her sons has went there and I was genuinely really fascinated by her stories and I think she was impressed by my resume… It’s really important to be yourself (unless you’re like immature or loud) but interviewers really want to see the person in you and not just hear you list a bunch of activities or test scores. I was very personable and it didn’t even really feel like an interview, more just like we were grabbing lunch somewhere.

Other

Applied for Financial Aid?: No
Intended Major: Business (McDonough)
State (if domestic applicant): IL
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: 200,000+
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none

Reflection

Strengths: EC’s and GPA, interview and recs,
Weaknesses:My top test scores were good, but having to send all of them if a little intimidating at first… I almost didn’t apply because I thought some of my SAT 2’s weren’t good enough so don’t feel discouraged!, no hooks, my resume is very engineering oriented and I applied to business
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:
I think they liked my focus on volunteerism that I really focused on throughout my application. I emphasized the idea of businesses having an emphasis on profit but also on making the world a better place
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected:
Accepted: Notre Dame (Mendoza), Fordham, Case Western, Northeastern, Marquette
Waitlisted: WashU, Northwestern
Rejected: No where so far but I’m sure those are coming…

General Comments :
Just never feel discouraged about the application process. I almost didn’t apply to Georgetown because I didn’t wanna go through the separate application, but as it turns out, I fell in love with it a little bit later. No matter our race, gender, income, etc. just give it a shot, and wherever you end up, it’ll be amazing and you’ll have a lot of opportunities.

General Comments : I’m honestly in shock, this is like a dream. Without any big hooks I thought I was going to be rejected. This just goes to show the unpredictability of college admissions; you just have to shoot your shot and have hope! Hoya Saxa!

Walsh School of Foreign Service

Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): 1500 first time, 1580 (780E, 800 M) second time
ACT (breakdown): N/A
SAT II: Bio Molecular (800), Chemistry (800), Math II (800), US History (780)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0
Weighted GPA: I honestly have no clue
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): All kids with a 4.0 UW GPA share the rank of 1 in our class out of about 300
AP (place score in parenthesis): Biology (5), Euro (4), Chemistry (5), APUSH (5), English Language and Comp (5), German (5), Calc AB (5)
IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
Senior Year Course Load: AP Coursework + some fun electives
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National award for German, won a study abroad trip (all-expenses paid!!), idk if that’s considered major, publication for research

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): School Board Representative, Class Secretary, NHS President, DECA VP, Model United Nations Officer, German Club, Orchestra, research, other things for fun
Job/Work Experience: Nah, but I wish I had some :frowning:
Volunteer/Community service: 250+ hours working with special needs community at my township
Summer Activities: Research, study abroad trip, traveling, watching Netflix
Essays (rating 1-10, details): Tell us about yourself essay was maybe an 8/10, SFS essay was a 9/10 (I tried to make it creative and relatable to my own experiences)
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):

Teacher Rec #1: AP Euro Teacher - 9/10 he’s also my Model UN sponsor and student council sponsor so we know each other pretty well
Teacher Rec #2: AP Bio Teacher - 10/10 we had a great relationship
Counselor Rec: 9/10 - we knew each other and he was very good at highlighting your strongest qualities
Additional Rec:
Interview: A little awkward, my guy was extremely nice and told me to not be worried about him giving me a bad report, but it was more of him asking a question, me answering for a few minutes, and then awkwardly smiling at each other lol

Other

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes?
Intended Major: Science, Technology, and International Affairs
State (if domestic applicant): PA
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Medium Public School
Ethnicity: Didn’t put
Gender: M
Income Bracket: Too much for FA :frowning:
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): From winning that German award, one of the German professors at Georgetown sent me a personal letter congratulating me and encouraging me to do a double major with language at Georgetown College, maybe they put that on my app file but I highly doubt that (and I ended up applying for SFS)

Reflection

Strengths: I hate saying test scores because it makes me feel one dimensional (and I’m really not, I think my personality is my greatest strength :)), but I would say test scores. I think my ECs, strength in a foreign language and the sciences, coupled with my leadership in things like student council and NHS were really the heart of my strength
Weaknesses: I was applying to SFS but my application may come across as maybe too science-oriented (although I really think I did a good job trying to keep it balanced but who knows?)
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: well-roundedness
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected:

General Comments :
I just tried my best to make the most out of my education and high school experience. Be self-driven and self-motivated because with the right mindset, you can do anything!

Hi! I was just wondering if there is a way to see if you got in online, or is it only through snail mail? thanks!

Has anyone from Texas heard anything? Also is mail the only way to find out or email as well? Thanks!

@Caroline @AthenaSar as of right now, mail is the only way… in a few days I believe you can call and find out? I’m not sure if you’ll be able to check online.
Also I don’t believe Texans have heard but cueck some other posts to be sure
