**Official Georgetown University Transfer Thread 2010**

I spoke with someone on the phone again today… and all of the decisions have definitely not been made. They’re still reviewing some of the applications.

@univerCity: Thank you for your supportive comments, and definately no problem on the misspelling.

I know from reading other posts within this thread, and in other threads all over CC regarding G’town that there is a bunch of contradictory information given by the university’s admission office. This is perfect example: My email specifically said, and I quote: “Unfortunately, the Committees have ceased meeting… Official decisions will be mailed on or before May 24th.”

[PS I misquoted in my earlier post regarding the date… please forgive]

Don’t take what I have posted as something set in stone… I’m simply passing on what I have been told to help others figure all this out. Keep in mind as well that the first person that you speak to on the phone in the admission office is most likely a part-time student on work-study that may only be there once a week and not know all the information. This would account for all the contradictory information posted on this forum.

As for those people they are requesting final transcripts from, I would think that they have separated all of the applicants into groups: definately rejected, waitlisted, conditionally accepted, and accepted. Those conditionally accepted they would request additional information from to make final decision.

[Just my thought, and definately not quoted from someone at the school so take it as it is. Let’s face it: NONE of us know for sure what is going on there until we hear a YES or NO]

Well I think there’s one thing we can all agree on: decisions are coming next week. Now the only questions are: Yes or No? and E-Mail or Snail Mail?

i e-mailed for a leaning decision, this is what i got. foreshadows a rejection to me…

"Thank you for reaching out to me. We are still in the process of
wrapping up decisions, and letters will be mailed on Monday May 24th.
You should thus hear sometime by the middle to end of next week. "

UniverCity that was the same answer I was given almost word for word.

I would like to back up what transferstudentx said. I called as well and the woman very calmly said that they are STILL deliberating.
Don’t worry about it too much! Also, I know one person who actually got a rejection email. So if you were definitely rejected, they would let you know.

A friend of mine knew he got in about two weeks ago through email. I don’t know if that means we’re all getting either a rejection email or acceptance email AND a letter, or what…he may have been special…

Hey I was wondering if any one had an idea of what my chances might be.

CC:GPA 3.8-3.9 not sure by Spring 2011
Around 4 honor classes not sure though might be more because I haven’t taken any yet.
1030/1600 SAT
Worked in the same job for 3 years while attending school and was promoted to Assistant Supervisor.
Going to join the USMC after I get my Associates.
I hope to get a lot of community service before I transfer also.
My H.S. stats are horrible because I wasn’t as dedicated before. I was basically a smart ass who never really tried. I would pass my test but never did homework so that hurt me a lot. But I soon realized that it was a mistake and decided to change in CC.

@Jose89: Realistically, your SAT scores are a bit low for Georgetown, so I’d either take them again or apply for junior year when they are less of an issue. But either way, good luck in college and good luck transferring!

Hey thanks for answering my question I know my SAT scores are low. I was going to transfer after I get my Associates so I would be going in as a Junior.

To Jose89
I think you are still have chances even if your SAT scores are low, just focus on your strong points, not you weaknesses.

I am exactly in the same case as you are, I was a lazy ■■■■ in hight school when I was back in France, and tranfered to a CC in VA where I realised that I had to study , and my GPA rised to 3.7-3.9.

Apply, you never know , just do the best you can

What are my chances of getting accepted? Here are my stats:
HS Gpa- 3.74
College GPA- 3.8
SAT- 1350/1600
Junior Transfer

Hey all,

I was accepted to Georgetown CAS and WashU St Louis CAS and cant decide. Any suggestions?

Hey Robinson,
First off, would you mind posting stats for the rest of us? It really helps everyone gauge whether or not we are getting in.
Second, when did you hear back, and how?
Third, what major are you? Your area of study could greatly influence which school is better suited for your needs.

Robbins: I copied and pasted it for everyone else.

“I am a rising college junior who got accepted to both Georgetown and Wash U St. Louis for transfer admission and am having difficulty deciding between the two schools. I am a psychology major looking to leave a small liberal arts college (approx 1700 students). I want to go to a bigger school with a more well-known and respected name - one that will help me both in the job market and possibly get into a top law or arts and sciences grad school. I visited both campuses recently and it seems to me that, while both schools are very pretty, WUSTL has arguably one of the nicest campuses in the country and is much more impressive than Georgetown’s. Georgetown, on the other hand, boasts a great town right outside the campus, and then there’s obviously D.C. There seems to be a great deal to do in St. Louis, though. My question to all is what school will give me a better arts and sciences experiences/more respected psych degree? I am fairly torn between the two, and while I realize that I probably can’t go wrong with either option, I am trying to figure out which choice will be BEST for me. Any/all comments about either school would be greatly appreciated.”

My best friend is a rising junior at Georgetown. He just switched from Psych to Sociology because he hated the Psych required classes and the teachers were unhelpful. He’s loving sociology right now, so it may just be a personal choice, but that’s my input. Good luck choosing, both are awesome schools!!

I have been anxiously waiting to hear back from Georgetown MSB (Finance Major) as a junior transfer student. Has anyone got an admission decision from MSB yet? I am worried that not hearing by now is a bad indication.

FromWildcat2Hoya,

Thanks for the info. I’m a psychology major, so I’m definitely most interested in which school will boast the stronger department, if there is a difference at all. As for my stats, I ended my sophomore year at a top-25 liberal arts college (according to USNWR) with a 3.81 gpa. I went to a private high school that did not calculate gpa nor class rank, so I obviously don’t have that information. I heard back from the college of arts and sciences on May 6th with a decision letter via email, and then received the same letter in the mail a few days later. Hope this helps. Feel free to inquire further.

Robinson33,
No problem, good luck wherever you end up, and if it’s Georgetown, I’ll hopefully see you on the hilltop!

FromWildcat2Hoya,

How have you liked your experience so far at Georgetown? What have you heard about the Psychology department?

I’m currently a transfer student, and I have been accepted to Davidson and Georgetown (the College). I know they are both very different schools (one’s a tiny liberal arts school and you guys all know about the other one), but I am having a lot of trouble making a decision. If you have any opinions, I’d love to hear what you have to say.

Again, any insight at all would be greatly appreciated, I am genuinely confused. (I’ll post this on the actual Georgetown forum too, since this thread is understandably popular and my post will get buried soon).
