**Official Georgetown University Transfer Thread 2010**

^well, univerCITY, I believe that they ask for two mailing addresses and also a date by which the school one should be used.

It will go to your permanent address according to previous years’ threads!

APRIL 24th decisions!!! I am so excited now… the 24th is the date of my last final! So happy to leave Montreal!!! :D

Anyone want to predict my chances??
-Current freshman at Santa Clara University, applying to Georgetown College
-3.84 college GPA through winter quarter
-3.6 high school GPA at tough public school in CA
-1980 SAT, one take
-Admitted to Santa Clara’s honors program; starting in it next year (if no Georgetown)
-Solid essays and excellent professor recs, most likely generic dean’s report
Also, how many people do you think have applied? Seems like much less than previous years… Thanks!

outoftheyay:

before i chance you, i just want to remind you how unpredictable things are. but…

i also applied as a freshman last year from a business school thats ranked higher than msb according to us news report. i had a 4.0 college gpa and a 2000+ SAT. and i got rejected. that’s not to say you’ll get rejected too of course, but just letting you know. again, you can never tell. but hopefully you get in, if not def. try again next year

I am currently a soph transferring from the University of Alabama. It would be great to hear something soon, but they’ve said that they won’t release any information til June.

they always say that so people don’t keep calling asking about their app, but they (usually) start sending acceptances late april/early may. then come the rejections :((

is there a thread we can look to from last year that would give us a better idea when we will actually get our decisions?

@jayz103 Here’s the 2009 thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/georgetown-university/682110-official-georgetown-university-transfer-thread-2009-a.html</a></p>

hey everyone,

applying to the Georgetown college with a 3.8 gpa although I know much more than that is going to factor into their decision lol

UniverCity,
Did they give you a reason why they didnt accept you? It sounds like you had real good credentials to make it in

no, they didn’t say anything other than the generic: there were so many qualified applicants blah blah blah. and i didn’t ask. again, you can never tell. maybe it was because i was coming from a good business school they didn’t think i needed to transfer (in that case, i probably didn’t explain to them well enough why i wanted to go there) or maybe it really was because there were more qualified applicants. i really don’t know. if i get rejected this year too, though, me and georgetown will be on very bad terms ;-/ :)

Chance Me:

I am a 28 year old non-traditional student. I have been active in my college during the last ten months after being laid off as a sales manager for an air cargo company. I am the VP for PTK Honor Society and PBL Business association. Also, I am a mentor for children in the county foster program. I applied as a junior transfer with a Finance A.A. from a Florida CC and a 3.90 GPA.

Thank you for any feedback or advice. Best of luck to everyone!!!

@im019268 Did you take the SAT? My interviewer showed me some stats of the 2009 transfers and the avg SAT score was 650 for one and 700 for the other (can’t remember which one was math and which one was reading). That’s my weak point, my SAT’s are not that good.

By the way, were you recently in Orlando by any chance? I’m the president of my Phi Theta Kappa chapter and was there for the convention.

Hi! No, unfortunately I could not attend, I had exams and classes I could not afford to miss. However, my chapter won the dance contest. Alpha Delta Rho! Anyhow, I was not required to submit SAT scores since I have been out of high school for over 10 years. I hope my extensive management resume makes-up for it.

so is anyone else feeling (and hoping) that the number of people applying for transfer this year is down? It seems like there were alot more people trying to transfer in the year’s past

@atop313 that’ll be good, but it’s unlikely. I read that college enrollment was at record numbers last year.

Hi everyone
As of now I’m still a senior at hs and I really wanted to go to Georgetown but my stats aren’t good enough: 3.3 gpa, 1590/2400 etc. I do have job experince (three years as a ski instructor and two as a camp counselor) l just wanted to know from the people who have applied as a transfer to Georgetown what I’ll need to do during my freshman year at college to improve my odds as a transfer applicant.
Also I plan on retaking my SAT and ACT

Hey, I thought it would be cool to kick this thread into action again. I’m guessing everyone is getting a little anxious/antsy since we’re so close to decisions!

Anyways, a little about me:

Fall 2010 Transfer Student to The College
Transferring from NYU
3.87 GPA
2100 SAT
Pretty sure interview went well
Weak high school record (2 C’s Senior year–will definitely hurt me)
Very devout catholic/pro-military, so Georgetown is just my cup of tea. I want to be a General for the U.S. Air Force and I KNOW that Georgetown will get me there.

What about everyone else?

@clout90265

“very devout catholic/pro-military” that may hurt you considering that is the pool that is expected to be attracted to Georgetown, did you make note of this somewhere in your application?

I think we are all high with anxiety right now, although it seems not many people are posting on this thread, and we are all probably compulsively checking the mail. That being said, someone please chance me!

-Transferring from College of Dupage (community college in chicago suburbs)
-Applied to Georgetown College as English major (pre-law)
-50 transferable credit hours (i will have AA after summer classes)
-4.0 GPA
-Alumni interview went VERY well
-Very, very exceptional professor recs, as well as personalized letter of rec from dean and president (I say ‘personalized’ because i met with each of them a few times to really point out the best attributes)
-Phi Theta Kappa member, as well as a candidate for ‘outstanding grad’ award.
-Several extracurricular activities

Thanks for the feedback!

I did not mention this is any part of my application. Are you a transfer applicant as well?
