@newtransfer I have 18 credits on my 4.0 GPA and soon to be 18 more (I sent in a midterm report with all A’s). Do you think they accept more applying sophomores than freshmen?

@newtransfer259. Ahahaha your enthusiasm regarding the admissions process is admirable. Just remember that not everyone uses College Confidential, so we do not know exactly when the admissions committee sends decisions (we have a pretty good idea though). Also, I was not aware that all rejection letters are sent by mail. Regardless, I will say that I remember reading that someone was waitlisted through email.

@slynch. I think you’ll probably get in. You have really strong numbers, but again, a lot of it also depends on the essays and other stuff.

The anxiety from waiting this long is becoming a little too much to bear. What sucks is that I probably won’t hear for another three weeks because I applied to the SFS. Has anyone thought about emailing the admissions committee for a leaning decision? I remember reading about people doing that in previous years’ threads.

To those of us who’s done before May 7th, do you think we’ll have time to send in 2nd semester final grades? That’ll be awesome.

Okay so i am going to mail my transcripts again and want to make sure it gets there on time. I have seen two mailing addresses and wanted to know if anyone could post the actual address to GU.

^ You could always fax it - they would receive it instantly. That’s what I did for my Mid-Term report.
[Georgetown University- Office of Undergraduate Admissions](http://uadmissions.georgetown.edu/contact_info.cfm)

@MaybeLater. Did you call and ask them if they want midterm reports?

^ No, but I know that some choose to send in mid-term reports in order to show continued interest, so I figured it could only help. Plus I am only a freshman, so I felt it necessary to provide a little more meat to my application.

@MaybeLater,
Good idea, continued interest is always a good thing as long as you did well on them.

@Hopes
The wait is definitely the worst part lol Did you apply to any other colleges? If so, you could ask them for a leaning decision to give you an idea of where you are at. I would wait until around early May to do this however as the admissions process is a hollistic one.

@Slynch,
Sadly, less transfers are taken than freshman. The freshman acceptance rate is ~20% with a higher incoming class. Transfers are ~15-18%

@newtransfer259. No, I did not apply to any other colleges, which I am starting to realize wasn’t a good idea, especially because my current institution is located in what is more of a retirement home than a city. I’ll probably just end up waiting for another three or four weeks (…kill me), although, in previous years, some people called in early May and were given a leaning decision. I only took 14 credits first semester too, and because of the registration process at my school, I couldn’t really take anymore classes w/out getting a class w/ a really bad professor. Ahhhhh! I hope they don’t look into that too much. :-)

@newtransfer- I meant do you think they take more transfer students applying for their sophomore year than transfers applying for their junior year?

@hopestobeahoya
I read the threads from previous years as well and I have DEFINITELY thought about contacting them for a leaning decision. However, I talked myself down from the ledge and decided it was best to just focus on my current classes and finish off strong. I poured sweat and tears into that application and I need to be able to sleep at night knowing I did my best. They can take it or leave it.

Hey Guys!
Just jumping in for this thread. Georgetown is my top choice for transfer
Here are my creds:
Current Institution: University of Hartford
Standing: currently a freshman
GPA: 4.0
SAT: 2010 cumulative
Extra Curricular Activities: Barney Leadership Council (event chair), Archery (VP of Archery club; ranked 2nd nationally; trained at the Olympic Training Center), Honors Program, Community Service (volunteer at a nursing home every week)
Major: Mathematics
Letter of Recommendation: from my Honors Writing and Rhetoric Professor and archery coach - both highly recommended. My advisor (and assistant dean) filled out the college officials report and wrote very positive comments.

I’m also 16 years old (I graduated high school 2 years early) What do you think my chances are?

Did everyone have their alum interview?

@Hoyafever. I definitely understand what you’re saying. I spent SO MUCH TIME on the application that I’m not sure what else I can do. Also, if I get rejected this time around, I’m not sure if I will have it in me to apply a THIRD time.

@Mizzk008. What was your SAT score on the 1600 scale? Georgetown does not approach the SATs on the 2400 scale (w/ writing).

So I happen to be in the area, and I stopped by Georgetown an hour or so ago and spoke to an admissons officer. I asked her about a leaning decision (also known as an “early read”) and if we would find out by June 1st. For the early read, she said that we need to show some type of documentation that we need an early decision. As for the June 1st deadline, we already know from previous years that some (if not most) decisions come before that deadline. Nevertheless, she said that she is in charge of the NHS (they split the applicants by school) and that the NHS committee would be wrapping up soon. That means, at least for people who applied to the NHS, that decisions **COULD POTENTIALLY **be coming up. This is just my hypothesis, however. I hope this helps.

On the 1600 scale, I have a 1350. 700CR and 650M

@slynch,
Sorry about that. There’s no set amount between sophmore and junior transfers, they are all grouped into the same. The only difference between the two is junior transfer’s college record is factored in more heavily than a sophmore transfer, who will still be judged by his HS performances as hell

@Hopes,
Thanks for that info. I know last year decisions were sent out a bit later than usual but that was because of the blizzards that were occuring in D.C. that forced Gtown to push back the deadlines by 15 days. Its been about three months since I applied but I feel like the month leading up to decisions is the longest month of the year haha

@mizzk008. Personally, I think you have a great shot.
@newtransfer259. Did you apply in January? And I know, the wait is KILLING me. Georgetown’s campus is so nice; even when I was there a few hours ago, I didn’t want to leave.

sorry if this question has been answered already… does anyone know when the earliest would be that we would hear about an acceptance?

No one knows, but @HopesToBeAHoya suggested it could be very soon.

In terms of the coming of acceptances, this is my theory. If anyone feels this wrong, please feel free to correct me or give your opinion. At Georgetown, they split the applicants based on the school you applied to. While I’m NOT 100% sure, I believe that someone who say applied to the NHS, or any other school for that matter, is not compared to someone who applied to the SFS (and so on so forth). When I asked the admissions officer today when decisions would come out, she had no idea about the SFS because she said she was on the NHS committee. This further supports that you are looked at in comparison to the others who applied to your school. And because the NHS is the smallest school (I think…), the committee in charge of the NHS can wrap up fairly quickly because they only have ~100 applicants to go through. That is why, in my opinion at least, the NHS’s decisions come out sooner than the MSB and the SFS’s. With the MSB and SFS, they have about 400-500 applicants, so it takes much longer for those respective committees to release their decisions. This makes sense because, according to previous years’ threads, MSB and SFS applicants are generally the last ones to hear. As for the college, because it’s huge and has the most applicants, they split it up by major (again, not completely sure, but I think this is a reasonable thing to say based on what I’ve read from previous years’ threads). That is why, in previous years, some people heard in ONE DAY last year. I hope this helps.

Hey guys, has anyone heard anything today?
