Official Georgia Tech 2013-2014 EA Discussion Thread

No I meant it dropped 15% from last year. According to the director, Rick Clark, last year’s EA rate was around 50%. Has it been confirmed that this year’s rate is 15% lower than last year’s rate, or is it just speculation/predictions ? Here’s a 35% acceptance rate in comparison with other schools:

Dartmouth- 28%
Williams- 43%
Duke- 25%
Northwestern- 32%
Johns Hopkins-33%

All for EA/ED

oh, in that case it sounds reasonable. i dont think anyone can confirm that it has dropped to 35%. i think it will be around 40-45% though

Their website said last year’s was 41% which dropped from 50%. I think it will be in the low thirties overall this year.

Overall around 30%. EA around 40-45%

Last year EA acceptance rate was 55%. I don’t know where you got the 41%. Here’s more stats from last year’s EA profile: 4.0 average GPA, 1460/2155 SAT score, with a predicted GPA of 3.3.

[GT | News Center :: Early Action Admission Decisions Drop Saturday](http://www.news.gatech.edu/2012/12/13/early-action-admission-decisions-drop-saturday)

I get mid thirties because I would imagine they would admit the same number of applicants. They had 9000 EA last years, 55% means they admit roughly 4800. 4800/12000 is 40% EA. Anything below 41% is rough, because EA at tech usually admits a majority of their applicants.

[Freshman Application | Admission](<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission)

It says:

2013 Freshman Applicants
Applicants - 17,678
Admit Rate - 41.05%
Freshman Class Size - ~2,700

The class size is going to be smaller than the number admitted in case anyone’s confused.

I was talking about the overall acceptance rate including RD. The 55% was from last year’s EA.

Also, since the decision date has been moved to three weeks later, that 12k number is likely to go down some. Anyone who got in ED somewhere else would have had to withdraw app from tech. Not sure how many that would be.

ooo damn that is a good point. I never thought about that. Some the more elite students who got into Harvard, Dartmouth, JHU and princeton would have to withdraw. Because those colleges are all binding.

Is Anyone having a problem accessing buzzport?? i havent been able to since yesterday

It has been working just fine for me. Maybe it means you got in, and I didn’t! Yikes! Just kidding :). But seriously, I am having no problems accessing it.

aha!! managed to access it  dont know why i couldnt earlier :P

Another thing to keep in mind is that GT doesn’t have to accept the same amount of students as last year. The freshmen class size could have increased this year.

Hi, I’m from india. I have my CR+Math equal to 1320 where math is 760 and cr is 560. My overall score is 1880. I have good marks in grade 11 and 12 half yearlies. 11th is 86% and 12th hy is 87%. I’m applying for Biomedical Engineering. I have great extra curriculars:

Vice President Students Council of my school
Awarded Best Student of the batch last year
National level Cricket Player been captain of the state team
Model United Nations where won best delegates and been a part of Executive Board of international MUNs twice
Won international 1st prizes at essay writing competitions
Worked with few of the best doctors as internships
Awarded Scholarship worth 5000 dollars where I stood 6th in India and 1st in my state
French language DELF exam cleared with distinction

I have been placed in top 1% by my counselor in a class of 1010 students. I have also got great recommendations and a winning essay.

Please chance me!

Stat predicting is a meaningless exercise this year. Do it if it makes you feel better while you wait, but there are too many confounding variables - Common App, ED withdrawals, use of weighted GPAs, etc. All you can know for sure is that the higher your individual stats, the better your chance.

do u guys think I have any chance for regular? I’m from TX and actually attend a really competitive school. think it is ranked number one now.

GPA: 4.26
ACT ENG: 29 – cuz I am Asian…
ACT ENG/WRI: 29 – got a 10 on essay, but GA Tech doesn’t seem to consider that…
ACT MATH: 34
SAT Chem: 760
SAT M2: 800
Big Accomplishments: I got 120 on AMC 12, 4 on AIME. Intel finalist (got second place in my category), Siemens regional finalist, went upto state level championships in 2 sports.

Is that Intel award at the national level? If so you should be worrying mit or Stanford. If you have serious math and science competition achievements like that then gt will look past test scores.

Does GT compare you to other applicants from your school?? I go to a really competitive school where everyone tries hard af (I’m 96/505 with a 4.25 gpa) I think we have 7 or 8 GT applicants this year; most of them have higher GPA than me. Will that affect me chance?
My test scores are ok (sat 2140, act 33, math2 800)

Yeah, I was wondering the exact same thing. My stats are competitive among the whole pool but within my school (I go to a magnet school), they are very average. Also, @agg yea I was an Intel finalist too for CS lol but from other colleges I applied to, they don’t seem to weigh it THAT heavily which kinda disappoints me.

@coder90 how do you know that they don’t weight it THAT heavily? What about Siemens Regional Finalists? Do you mind telling me what colleges you applied to and why do you were accepted/rejected? Thanks!
